Excel Files In Console Application?

View 3 RepliesI'm working on a new project, it's a console application that encrypts and decrypts files. I've only made two commands in the prototype (help & clear).

1) I'm sure this command readings can be done in a more efficient way, but this is the only way I know.
2) I want to make this as a console application because it looks cooler than a ordinary form application that I normally use.
I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

I have a console application I'm using to run scheduled jobs through windows scheduler. All the communication to/from the application is in email, event logging, database logs. Is there any way I can suppress the console window from coming up?
View 5 RepliesI am using Datagridview and ListView Controls in my windows desktop application using vb.net.I want to Import data directly to Excell sheet and CSV file directly from form.
View 3 RepliesI am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.
View 12 RepliesHow do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.
View 7 RepliesIt sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
I am trying to use the System.Diagnostics.Process class.I have the following Windows Forms application. It consists of 1 Button and 1 TextBox. The only code is for the button click event as follows.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim myProcess As New Process()

I am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
{"Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorksheetClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."}
I have a fully functional multi-threaded VB2008 console application that I need to convert to a windows forms application. I am doing this to add additional functionality at a later time. How would I go about doing this?

View 2 RepliesI have a bunch of Excel files, each file with multiple worksheets (aka, tabs). I want to loop thru each file, and within each file, loop thru its worksheets and do some stuff. I've included Microsoft.Office.Interop in my code and I am able to do Excel operations but I am not sure how you loop thru the multiple worksheets within a workbook.
Here is what I have so far.
Imports System
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
'The command take one argument.
'It is used to locate the current source directory where the Excel files are saved.
'The command will open each file and loop thru the tabs in the file.

I am making a console application that basically just takes in rainfall over the year, then exports the data into an Excel template and saves it. I've accomplished all this but cannot for the life of me get the window to minimize. I can change the size but everything I've tride doesn't work.
View 3 RepliesI'm setting up a console application that ...
1. Executes a stored procedure that populates a SQL table for reporting purposes.
2. Opens an Excel Workbook.
3. Refreshes the Workbook.
4. Saves the Workbook.
5. Closes the Workbook.
6. Sends the Workbook as an attachment in an e-mail using the SmtpClient class.
Now, steps 1 through 6 are inside of a loop as I would like to use the same workbook for all my report refreshes. My perfect solution is to iterate this loop as many time as needed to have all my reports automatically sent via email as an attachment. The first time through the loop, it works perfectly, however, the 2nd time through the loop, I noticed when the application opens up the workbook, the workbook opens up as a read-only copy even though I properly closed the workbook prior to re-opening it.
I've tried to force the open as read/write but then, the 2nd time the workbook loads, an exception is thrown. I'm on Windows 7 and I noticed that the folder properties has a read-only check box which I make sure is cleared before running the application but then when I stop/pause the application to inspect the folder properties, the check box is checked again. I'm not sure if this is why I'm having issues when I open up the Workbook a 2nd time or not.

I have a query being created using oledb from access and need to get the information to an already existing excel spread sheet. I am using VS 2010 with vb.net, access and excel are 2010. I have been running in circles for the last two days and cannot figure out how to get the data from a datareader into excel. This is a vb.net console app, so no web tables or grids can be used.

I am almost to the point of just outputting to a CSV and telling the user to import into excel each time. I can export to excel if I put it in a webform, but I cannot figure out how to do using a console app.
Is there a way to convert a windows form application into a console application in visual basic?
View 2 Repliesdetect whether the current application is a console or a winforms application.The reason that I want to do this is that I am developing a library with a global error handler in it and I need to know what type of application it is in order to be able to subscribe to the appropriate exception event.Obviously I could get the user to pass in a parameter specifying what type of application it is, but I would rather deal with that automatically so its all encapsulated from the user of the class.
View 1 RepliesWe currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.
I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.
The following code works fine but seems to leave instances of excel.exe running in the background. How do I go about closing out this sub properly?

' In progress
childform.sampleloaded = False

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import()
Dim db As Database

I am maintaining some VB.net code and I am more of a C# programmer. I have taken over maintaining several projects from people who have since left the project. The manager tells me that some of the VB.net programs are console applications. Yet in looking through the source code I am not able to distinguish wether the code is for a console application or for some other VB.net program like a VB.net windows application. Can someone tell me if there is a way to determine if a VB.net program is a console application.
