File I/O And Registry :: Registry Entry Found/not Found Messages?
Aug 13, 2011
Currently I am using this code to check for Firefox on a 32 bit machine
Code:
Dim Firefox32 As String
Firefox32 = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue _
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMozillaMozilla Firefox 5.0in", "PathToExe", Nothing)
MsgBox("The value is " & Firefox32)
If the value is found then the above message is fine, but if the entry is not found I want it to display a message like: "Firefox could not be found" instead of "The value is: " What code would make this appear?
I am creating an xml file if it does not exist, but am having trouble with appending to the file if it does exist. I am using the reference System.Xml Here is my code:
Code: Public Function App_Path() As String Return System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory()
I'm developing a very simple app that does nothing more than launch two other apps. I'm developing this under the .NET 2.0 framework for WinCE 5.0 in VS2005.No matter what I do, I keep getting file not found exceptions not handled, and the program crashes. (Yes I should probably have a try/catch block, but this isn't the issue.)
Now, the label change here is not important, I only do this to output the full path of the directory, and strDrivePath is "whatever.exe"
If Directory.Exists(fullPath) Then If File.Exists(fullPath & strDrivePath) Then Me.Label1.Text = "EXISTS!!!"
[code].....
The irritating thing is after getting and displaying the full path (I know it's there) I check with the first IF to prove to the program it's there. No problem.I then use the second IF to prove to the program that the executable is there, and change the label output on screen to prove to myself the code is executed. The label changes. The file is there.
Then when I run the program, File not found exception. It's driving me insane. I've tried in multiple OSes (Vista and CE 5.0), I've tried in directories with spaces and no spaces, I've tried using Process.Start() and setting up the file details through the info command.I've tried putting a path in there directly instead of using variables. I've tried wrapping the whole kit and kabodle in quotes like this Shell("" & fullPath & strDrivePath & "" ) and like this Shell("""" & fullPath & strDrivePath & """").I've searched high and low on forums around the globe, including multiple threads here and I just cannot get it to work.
I want to run registery file ( with Shell command or system.process.start) but do not want to the messages it gives. ( Are you sure want to add the information in register " And the second message is " Information has been successfully entered in to register )How can i run the registry file by vb.net without viewing these messages.
Recently, I upgraded VB6 project to VB.Net. After that I can sucessfully compile the project and generate a DLL file in the bin folder, but when I try to use regsvr32 command to register the DLL, I got error saying "DllRegister Server Entry Point is not found".
And I cannot remove it from memory, if I want to use my old DLL.
I need to create a COM-callable DLL using VB.NET 2010 that can be opened by a legacy VB6 application. I'm experimenting with a very simple demo example first. When I try to register the resulting DLL with regsvr32, it shows me this error:"DemoCounter.dll was loaded, but the DllRegister Server entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."Here are the steps I followed:
1. Create new VB.Net project as a class library. 2. Delete the class1.vb file it starts with. 3. Add a new class from template "COM Class" 4. Build the DLL and try to register it.
The class has the GUIDs, the <COMCLASS ...> stuff, and has a checkmark in the "Register for COM Interop" checkbox of the project settings.[code]
Error is coming Registry Access is not allowed. While Opening a Key.
Code: Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click NewDelete("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", "Sonia") End Sub
I've had a bit of a look around the net and on the forums but I've yet to find an answer to my question. I've got Visual Basic 2008 Express and I'm trying to write some registry entries, I can write strings fine just using
I have created a dll using class library in visual studio 2010. This dll calls another dll to perform some special calculations. I want to deploy the whole setup in excel vba and it had worked properly on the PC, on which I have generated the dll. The top cover dll is automatically registered in the registry list and i did not use the "regasm" to register it...
Now when i try to use this on a different PC (Win7 x64 OS, No Visual Studio), I'm facing problems. I am unable to register the dll with regasm, as I dont have it. When i use regsvr32 i get the Error "dll was loaded but DllRegisterServer entry point was not found"
I dowload winscard.dll(Version 5.1.2600.2180) from online to use inside my program. When I try to register it in both system32 and my project folder, I faced the following error. "winscard.dLL was loaded, but the DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found." I can't even unregister it.
Currently, I am try to get the email addresses that have been saved or stored by the user of the computer. This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. The email addresses that are used on the current computer. I just can't seem to find them on my computer.I am not sure if the registry is the only place to find it or if it stored on the web browser such as internet explorer or google chrome.
I am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
We have an VB.net application that is being moved from one box to another. It runs great on the old box. The new box is configured the same as the old one but is on newer hardware. When I run the application on the new server it complains that the adobe toolkit that we use can not be found.
I have several programs that must write to HKLM in XP and Windows 7/64 Pro.The programs work in VB6 but not in VB.Net 2008 on target machines. It does works on our development machine. [code]I just cannot figure out why VB6 works but .net doesn't and fails only on the target machine not the development machine.
I just bet the answer to this question already exists, however I saw no search mechanism under the forum. Anyhow, I would like to change registry data, and this code is asking for an instance to the object.
Dim RegKey As RegistryKey = My.Computer.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwa reAnyDWGSoftwareDWGtoPDFProSettings", True) RegKey.SetValue("OutputPDFFileOpt", 1)
Finally, I want to apply this setting to the program on four different computers (local, and three others on the network).
I took the following method to make a registry key in my setup project. When I run setup, it says Could not write value Run to the key. Verify that you have the sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. "Below I have copied the code that I took from the forum After you have built your own application project, Right Click the "Solution" to "Add a New Project", of cource the project type is Setup and Deployment Project.
Add the "Project Outputs" into the setup project, here, it can be the your own application,Most of important step: Open the "Regstry" view of the setup project, then add new keys in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" according to the information I just mentioned. Below the key "Run", you can add a new string value. Then in the value's "Properties" view, enter "[TARGETDIR]YourApplicationName.exe" .Install your application using the msi file created by setup project, then restart your computer, you can see the result.
I have an installer for my application that makes changes to the registry for better application performance However, depending on the language of the operating system installed this input need changes For example (which is the case itself) Systems in Portuguese the entry is called (Padrao)Systems in English the entry is called (Default) I know I have I change the property "Condition" of the entry I created but I do not know what I have to write in this "Condition" I write within this property to validate that The system is in English or The system is in Portuguese I plan to put the project set two registry entries, one that will be done on systems with English language and other entry in systems with Portuguese language?
I want to get every single registry Name and value, which lies in HKEY_CURRENT_USER....Run(for getting and THEN deleting them to prevent run those programs at windows start). This is just for getting names.
Imports Microsoft.Win32 Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click[code].....
Well, this isnt working, when i run it in the vb and click button, it says system missing member exception: IWshShell3 hasnt been found.
Does anyone know how to use the registry section in Inno Setup to add a registry key that make a program start with windows when a Checkbox is checked in the setup wizard? If anyone know please step forward. I am getting near the launch of a program and it would be nice to include this feature.
I wrote an application to manage several installers and I wanted to throw in some registry settings as well. Unfortunately the following code is not writing to the registry, nor is it returning any exceptions.I'm running Visual Basic 2010 Express as administrator using Windows 7 64 bit, I can manually add the values, and I can add them from a .reg file manually but not even by calling the .reg file as a new process (it asks for permission, says it succeeded, but nothing changed). The key already exists, all I need to do is add two values.
Iam Using This Code to return app path it works good on my pc but on any other system it give the right path but an error also came The specified file not found
Public Function App_Path() As String Return System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory() End Function
I had the following piece of code working for the last few weeks and earlier today it seems stopped working.I have the code in a try/catchh block and in that try I create a file, "Build.bat" with code in it that will get it to do some oracle/sql wizardry
If File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat") Then Shell(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat", AppWinStyle.NormalNoFocus, True) End If
After stepping through my code I noticed that the catch is executed at the shell line, so I put it in an if statement to see if the file exists and it always comes up as true, but on the next line I still get a File not Found error.
Try Dim BatFile As New StreamWriter(Application.StartupPath & "Build.bat") Dim SQLPLUS As String[co
