View 5 Repliesbasically im looking to have two textboxs with 3 buttons
TextBox1.text contains the path to the new file and
TextBox2.text contains the path folder to subdirectories
i have everything i need working, haha i know not much, this is only my second day with vb.I just needed a button now to carry out the function of copying the file i tried using simple file copy but i had to specify a file output in that and it only gave me option to copy it to one directory. For instance
C:index.php TextBox1.text <- loaded in from button 1
C:www* TextBox2.text <- button 2 loading subdirs
now i need a button 3 that would carry out the function of copying textbox1.text to all subdirs in textbox2.text.i thought i would have been able to use simple copy as stated above with wildcard in my program but no joy
My directory structure is like below.
Parent directory
---Sub directory 1
---Sub directory 2
------Sub directory2a
------Sub directory2b
---Sub directory 3
I am writing in VB.net to fetch all the directory names (including sub directories in all the levels). However while using directory.getfilesystementries(path) I am getting only the top level sub directories.how to fetch all the subdirectory names of all sub levels?
I need to store in an array all the Directories on drive C, all the directories & all the sub directories & subdirectories of sub directories, with an option maybe to list the files in each directory
The recursive code I have searched for and found seem to have all sorts of variations that do not suit my needs
I am trying to replace a string which is actually different from line to line in a text file. I want to end up with a filename but without the path. For example:
My text file contains:
C: est estingmorefilename.mpg
C: est estfiles1 estfile4.mpg
W: estinglocation estingmore estfiles9.mpg
[Code]....
i wanna list all the path of every folders contained in a main folder in a listbox Here's my problem
For Each level1 As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectories("C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDesktopdatabase")
ListBox1.Items.Add(level1)
Next
[Code]...
I get the common error: " 'File Name' is currently being used by another process..."
My problem is that I have two forms. If the file doesn't exist in the one then it creates the file and opens up the other form, if the file exists it doesn't do anything, however, in the other form that it opens up I have it "attempting" to write text via StreamWriter. But my problem occurs when the StreamWriter tries to open the file for writing, that is when the program tells me that the file is currently being used by the other process.
In my first form I close the form via Form.Close and all I am using to create the file is System.IO.File.Create. Now I know that the System.IO.File.Create is causing the error because I have this process checking the very first thing on the program load. I am trying to find a work around the System.IO.File.Create but no luck here... I am trying to create a .txt ... lets say test.txt .
friend of mine has no HTML knowledge so I'm attempting to write a program that replaces certain parts of a html file to suit his needs.I've edited the HTML file and marked certain parts with "tags" like this:
#IMAGEURL1# I have a textbox where he can copy + paste an image URL and hopefully the #IMAGEURL1# is replaced with the contents of the textbox.
So can someone please enlighten me to-as how to open a HTML file (there's no textbox to display the contents just yet, I'll add one if needed), find the specified text and then replace it with whats in a textbox.
i am developing a software called Logon screen changer xp and i get this error [URL] what is the solution the program is created in vb.net 2008 with .net framework 2.0 and it changes a registry value and replaces a file and copies a file very simple but there are security issues with xp
View 11 RepliesI am trying to figure out how to replace text in a text file on a specific line number. (for testing, line number 4).
View 6 RepliesI suppose technically this isn't .NET specific but I suspect this is something to do with the registry and I'm using .NET!I'm trying to find out how to get the fully qualified path relating to a file type. For example, the system knows that to open a PDF file it needs to launch C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Reader 10.0Readeracrord32.exe
I've had a good long search through the registry and found a lot of references to the adobe path probably too many - and I've edited them to try and "break" the process so I can identify which one is used to discover the path but with no luck. I'm assuming this has something to do with HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT?
I am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
In this key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass{4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.
Sorry if this seems like I haven't searched, however I have. Maybe I'm not understanding something or maybe I just haven't found what I need. Anyway my question is this. How would I find multiple strings in a text file and replace them? So far I've been able to find out how to replace a single string with:

I am new to VB but I do have VS2005 and I was looking at some code examples here on deleting files by days old and I need to do something similar, I would like to start a say C:myData**.xit and search through all sub folders under myData and move all the .xit files based on days old into a temp folder. Then I could verify them before I delete them manually to be safe. So how do I loop through all sub folders? and can I just modify this code to do that? Here is the code I was thinking about starting with [URL].
Dim files As System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String)
Dim singlefile As String
Dim CreatedOn As Date
'Declare the counter
Dim deletedcount As Integer = 0
[Code] .....
I am trying to list all printers (PrintersConnections) under all users (HKEY_USERS)
problem is I dont know the user name keys in advance and need to exclude .DEFAULT and *_CLASSES so first I need to list all key names (%usernamekey%) directly under HKEY_USERS then for all keys that lists lsit all keys under HKEY_USERS\%usernamekey%PrintersConnections
Here is the code I have so far but I get errors about object variable not set, I suspect because of the way I doing the for each and listing the key names and then doing it again
Code:
Private Sub DetectPrntrs()
Try
Dim RemReg As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
[Code].....
I want to get every single registry Name and value, which lies in HKEY_CURRENT_USER....Run(for getting and THEN deleting them to prevent run those programs at windows start). This is just for getting names.
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click[code].....
Well, this isnt working, when i run it in the vb and click button, it says system missing member exception: IWshShell3 hasnt been found.
I want to store images like finger prints and data in a single file so i can send that file via mail.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to save multiple type of objects to a single file, objects are a custom class that I am able to serializable and another object is a word document that is not being able to serialize via binary. Is there a way to save multiple objects to one file using vb, also would it be possible to save files like how a docx is saved, that is a .zip renamed as docx but get access to inner objects.
View 1 Replieshow do you transform an address like "file:///d:filename.ext" in "d:filename.ext"
without dirty string manipulation??
I have a sign up sheet that I am working on for instance;
username
password
street address
city
state
zip
I've been trying to save the textboxes individually but when I go to load the information everthing is pushed all into one textbox.....I'm also using the SaveFileDialog and OpenFil
I am trying to get the information inputted from multiple textboxes to save to a single text file.
Here's what I got.
Private Sub btn_done_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_done.Click
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:UsersTrevorDocumentsDraftAC est.txt"
Dim i As Integer
Dim aryText(2) As String
[Code] .....
I have a *.txt file which contains instructions and data, with its own comments (preceded by ! ), blank lines, and each instruction begining on a new line, but occassionally using two lines. Each instruction consists of several feilds seperated by a TAB. Finally each instruction ends in a comma. Only a few different instructions are there (10 different ones) but there are many of each. Spanning a good 2500 lines. Comments and blank lines are obviously of no interest to me. I merely need to read the instructions and the data that follows it.
Now, I have successfully used 'System.IO.StreamReader.ReadLine' to go through it line by line, picking out lines begining with certain strings (first 3 characters of a known instruction). All good, I can 'lift' out the lines of interest and store them, for them to be split up later (seperating their fields into instruction, data, etc..) and then into an array.
The problem is, since some of the data fields in these instructions are so long, it spans two lines, before it ends with a comma. Using the above method, I end up with two array entries for a single instruction, since I have stored individual lines rather than a complete instruction. The only similar situation I can tihnk of to explain this, is to pick out sentences in text, and store each one in a string. Of course these end with a period (full stop) but span two or more lines.
I am hesitant to post an example, since its formatting is rather strange, but it is generated that way from 3rd party software, so I cannot change that for my software application.Perhaps there is no 'graceful' way of doing this, meaning I would have to find a way of 'adding' the second line of the instruction, to the string of the first line. Or perhaps reading each line character by character, literally storing every number/letter until I reach a comma.
Say I have a code with 3 methods that do some pretty intensive work. Would executing these methods on 3 seperate threads be faster then executing them one after the other on a single core cpu? And what if it's a dual core or HT?
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to copy multiple files from a directory, put them into an array, then copy just the 30 newest files(I haven't coded the 30 newest loop yet). I added a list box to the following code just to ensure the all the files are storing into the array properly... they are. When it try's to copy, it renames the first file to .log, then tells me that the .log file already exist. How do I get it to copy and keep the source file name in the destination folder Eventually I'll loop this and grab only 30 of the files.
Here's the code I'm playing with:
Private Sub transferButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles transferButton.Click
[code].....
I've made a rudimentary program that combines multiple files into one single file. Currently if I combine two .csv files together the output comes out correctly for what I need, which is a coma delimited file. When I try to combine two .csv files into a .xls file it doesn't format correctly (I get all the data separated by commas, but thrown into one column in the .xls file). For this reason I believe I need to add a delimiter.I'll post my code below.

2. FunctionLayer -deals with Common Operations which get results from DataLayer and return results to Forms.3. User - deals with User. (For Reusing the User Class in other projects, i have separated this class)Here in Class2 - I have an instance of Class1( ie., DataLayer) for DB Operations.imilarly in Class3- I have an instance of Class1( ie., DataLayer) for DB Operations. Now in my form, If i create Instance of Class2. But When I need user functionality in this form, I have to create an instance of Class3 to this form.
View 6 Replies[code]It spews out the directories that contain the .my files [level2a & level2clevel3] and skips level2b which does not.It looks like this code for VB 6 would work:[code]I can get to the level1 directory. I am after an array of paths to subdirectories that contain matching file names.
View 9 RepliesI want to create multiple directories using VB.NET. All I am trying to read a text file which holds all the paths and file names some thing like:
c: est.txt
d: est est.txt
The code which I tried o write down is:
If File.Exists(fileLoc) Then
Dim objReader As New StreamReader(fileLoc)
Dim TextLine As String = ""
[Code]....
I have been asked to transfer multiple directories and their files from one drive to another but using a different directory name i.e Source Drive equals a: and the destination drive equals s:CATE ResultsA380, plus the orginal directory and files must be added to the destination path.
View 3 RepliesSo I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME
CALLNAME
BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.
