Nov 21, 2010i have a string named Workers that had multiple lines of text. I need to search those lines for the term "BackGroundWorker1" if it is found then do something if not do something.

VS 2008 Find/Search Ctrl + F In Multiline Textbox
May 2, 2009is there a way to make a textbox searchable like those Ctrl + F which can be found in most of the windows application?
I have googled and found some functions which is quite similar, but I have an issue which for eg.
My multiline textbox contains a lot of text with scrollbar, somehow the text I want to find is in the middle, when I click the find button, the word is indeed found and highlight, but the scrollbar still remain on top.
I wonder how can I make the find adjust the scrollbar as well?

Nov 20, 2011I need a way to tell me if a certain word already exists in a multi-lined textbox. Right now I have a multi-lined textbox with some names inside it. After each name I add a newline so all the names are on their own line inside the textbox.I use this code to add names to the textbox, Text Box1. AppendText(ComboBox1.Text + vbCrLf)Then I have been checking if the name exists by doing it this way,[code]The problem is that Ted and Teddy return the same when searching for Ted even if Ted isnt in the textbox at all, I have googled for the last few days and even tried RegularExpressions and still the same results. I think this might be a simple true or false check but I may be wrong... or even a loop or something line by line.

The pattern should have succesfull match if the source string is either DAY1 or DAY2 or DAY3 to DAY31 like so.

When I try to implement the module, I receive an error about matching parameters.From what I have read, this error kicks back due to a discrepancy between the VB and the SQL stored procedures.My query should be totally okay, but I don't know where exactly I should be looking in my visual basic...I have five separate VB files; the view.vb file, edit.vb, settings.vb, the controller.vb, and info.vb.I had thought that my best bet might be the controller file, but I can seem to find anything that might be missing.

I know that there is a library out there called dynamic LINQ, but (1) it's in C# and I'm writing in VB (2) I'm really just looking for a single, simple solution for this single case.

Match A Word In A String?
Apr 18, 2011I'm currently trying to match a word in a string - to a word in an 1 dimensional arrray.
So it does this.
1.Goes into array, gets first word.
2.Looks for that word in the string.
3.If can't find it, go to next word in array.
4.And so forth until it finds it or runs out of words in array.
Problem is the string can be upto 2000 characters long. And the Array with the possible matches can have upto 8000 entries.
So when it runs, if the word begins with 'A' it finds it dead quick as the 'A's are at the top of the array, ordered alphabetically. This is great.
But if the word starts with 'Z' then it takes 4-5 seconds before finding it.
I'm basically using InStr to find the word in the string.

Compare Letters Of A String To See If They Match
May 18, 2012I am making a question and answer game, and I would like to be able to give the user some slack in the answers if they were to misspell a word by a letter or two, like if the answers was Jumps and they type Jump if you did a comparison of them like If string1 = sring2 then do whatever, but obliviously those to string dont match, so it would return false, even though it is the right answer, I came up with this routine to compare two words and if the percentage of the letters are higher then 82 % right it will give you credit for your answer.

May 2, 2011I need a way to compare multiple strings to a test string and return the string that closely resembles it:
TEST STRING: THE BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE RED COW
CHOICE A : THE RED COW JUMPED OVER THE GREEN CHICKEN
CHOICE B : THE RED COW JUMPED OVER THE RED COW
CHOICE C : THE RED FOX JUMPED OVER THE BROWN COW
(If I did this correctly) The closest string to the "TEST STRING" should be "CHOICE C". What is the easiest way to do this?
I plan on implementing this into multiple languages including VB.net, Lua, and JavaScript. At this point, pseudo code is acceptable.
