I am using the following code to create a dummy file of a specific size. RemSpace declared as a Long value and is returned in bytes from a separate function in my applciation. I have verified that it returns the correct # in bytes. However, when I execute the following routine, the dummyfile is created, but it never stops the loop. I have to kill it from task manager or it would fill up the HDD. The line:
For i As Integer = 1 To RemSpace
should tell the For loop to stop when it reaches the value of RemSpace, which is a long value in bytes. Here is my complete code.
Public Sub Create_DummyFile()
Dim RandomClass As New Random()
Dim RandomNumber As Integer
I am using a label inside my loop to get a count on the number of records processed by the loop. during testing of the program I noticed that if I load a smaller Table( 1000 records) my label stops refreshing after about 110 and my mouse turns to an hour glass. The program finishes and the label returns the correct count when complete If I load a larger table (10,000 records) it works all the way through???
Create an application that allows the user to guess a random number generated by the computer.When the user makes an incorrect guess, the application should move an image either upr or down, depending on how the guess compares to the random number.If the random number is greater than the user's guess,the application should move the image up to indicate that the user needs to guess a higher number.If the random number is less than the user's guess,the application should move the image down to indicate that the user needs to guess a lower number.The game ends when the user guesses the random number.However, the application should allow the user to stop the game prematurely.When that happens the application should siplay the random number.I have tried every which way I can think of including using a textbox instead of an inputbox and playing around with the syntax - but just can't seem to get it right.[code]
I've made a program where a picture of a bee buzzes around the form in random movements (using random number generator code) and have put it in a while loop so that whilst the bee is visible on the form (hasn't flown off the sides) it moves randomly:
While (picBee.Top > 0 And picBee.Top < 725) And (picBee.Left > 0 And Timer1.Enabled = True) Application.DoEvents() For i = 1 To 3000000 Next picBee.Top = picBee.Top - 2 + 4 * Rnd() picBee.Left = picBee.Left - 2 + 4 * Rnd() End While
So far the bee does stop moving when it meets one of the four edges of the form but I need to code it so when the be reaches the edges and stops a message box appears declaring the game over.
I'm trying to fill a listbox with random alphaNumeric license plate numbers. I've succeeded in the random "plate" generator, but can't quite seem to figure out getting it to loop (500 times).[code]...
I am using some arrays that are pre-filled and I am having a random number generated between 0-10. That random number will then go in to all 5 arrays and pull the item from that location. I think try to take the sentence that is generated into another string. Once that is complete I then go through the final array to pull all the sentences and concatenate them together.
Currently I've only been able to get 1 sentence to print out of 5...a fresh pair of eyes would prob see where I am going wrong...I've been at this for awhile and wouldn't mind some advice to where I am going wrong.
Public Class MainForm
Private Sub MainForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I am doing a Coin Toss program for school and I'm getting my butt kicked by this thing. The following are the instructions exactly as my instructor gave them:Use the random number generator (see the code below) to simulate a coin toss. First ask the user for the number of repetitions. Next, set up a For loop to execute that many times. Each time you enter the loop, call the random number next method. Assume that a random value <= 5 is considered a "Heads"; a value >5 is a "Tails". That is, if the random value is <= 5, add one to an accumulator named intNumHeads. If the random value is >5 add one to an accumulator named intNumTails. When the loop finished, output the number of heads and the number of tails in a text field with appropriate labels.Dim intRandom As New Random()Dim intNumber As IntegerintNumber = intRandom.Next(0, 9) In my application I have the click event of the "Flip Coin" button coded as follows:
Public Class frmToss Private Sub btnFlip_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Beginning VB 2010, had a project that requires us to create a list box of 25 randomly generated 0s or 1s. Problem is when I put the loop in, it only repeats the same random number, not different one each loop. What am I doing wrong?This is the code I have so far...Code in Question:
'Declare new random object Dim RandomGenerator As New Random intRandomNumber = RandomGenerator.Next(0, 2)[code]......
I'm trying to lern VS 2010 from VB 6 and one of the things i'm hawing a problem whid is control array.In vb 6 if you create a text box it's named "Text1" and if you yust copy it and paste it it renames to "Text1(0)" and the new one's name is "Text1(0)" and the code would lock like this
[code]...
then it would print for each loop the random result in one of the text boxes corresponding to i.
Makes the following statement about the code below:
**"The computer evaluates the loop condition in the Do...Loop statment to determine whether the loop instructions should be processed. In this case, the inputsales <> String.Empty condition compares the contenst of the input sales variable to the String.Empty value. As you know the String.Empty value represents a zero length, or empty, string if the inputsales variable is empty, the loop condition evaluates to True and the computer process the loop instructions. *If on the other hand the inputsales variable is not empty, the loop condition evaluates to false and the computer skips over the loop instructions.
Based on the code I think it is the opposite: ...that while the inputsales value is not empty it should evaluate to true and process the loop and if it is empty it should evaluate to false and skip the loop?
I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite,because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......
The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.
I am practicing using the drawing commands, and have gotten a grass background and black happy face that moves around the background.It's a 10x10 grid of 50 pixels.I want (at the moment, when i press enter) it to generate a random number of trees (15 ~ 25) at random locations on the background. The program doesn't freak out about anything, and the variables seem to be right (using stop commands) but it's not drawing anything. Here is the code for the "GenerateTrees" command I have for when I press enter.
Private Sub GenerateTrees() NumberOfTrees = Int(Rnd() * 10) + 15 For i = 0 To NumberOfTrees - 1 bmap.MakeTransparent(Color.Fuchsia)
I would like to use integers generated by Random.org in a small desktop widow app. Im using visual basic. All My search terms bring up unrelated (to My issue) information. Currently I am using the local random statement/command.
I am trying to make a texas hold em game and it is of the utmost importance that my code generate a random number. But using a random number function that I always end up with a lot of the same numbers over and over again. Any ideas on how to make it "TRULY" random? [code]
I've made an image viewer which opens a random image from a specified folder, but the random number is not that random at all... I've already used Randomize(), but without result.
I have an animated gif in a picturebox that's loaded from the start.The problem is, whenever any application goes on top of the app the gif stops moving.Example : the app is open (gif is animating), I open notepad, I open the app (gif has stoppd animating)How do I keep it animated, even when the app is not visible?
Running solution with VB.NET & C#, ASP.NET, VS 2008 with ReSharper 5 Most of the time, ReSharper is working (redundant code grayed out, squiggles, etc.)Sometimes, on the same code where it was working, nothing is highlighted to show ReSharper is enabled.I haven't done anything except modify code and debug.
I have a timer in one app which is basically the clock of Windows displayed in a textbox.If I run two apps at the same time I notice that one timer after a while, stops
I don't take programming lessons at school or anything, and I'm starting to (try to) teach myself about random things.Currently I'm making an app that has 3 functions:
-Random Integer (1 to 100) -Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip) -Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)
How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.
I have a solution that has three projects. One is a service, one is a form, and one is a class library. I use the form for debugging, my logic is complete now I would like to just call.
I have a windows Forms app that displays data as it scans.Once you alt-tab or remove "focus" from the app and doing something else (open word) it stops updating. In otherwords it looks like the app has locked up.But it will finish the scanning as normal.But any updates from the scans being shown on the app window are not shown, that is until the app is finished and catches up.
My requirement is getting output from command window asynchonously in vb.net form, I am doing this with system diagnostic process and using addhandler. My problem is, I have separate class to execute process, after process start when control goes to a addhandler sub routine, it stops there only after it's execution(in addhandler subroutine), and never comes back where I am capturing output. Control should come to the line in below code - addInput = outputExe.ToString() so that I can captureoutput and go back to vb.net code behind.
code is as below
Public Class RunExe Private Function ExecuteProcess() procInfo = New ProcessStartInfo procInfo.FileName = ExeFile
I know something is wrong but not sure what it is.
The DataSet designer will stop refreshing itself every now and then in VS2008. This means I cannot work with my DataSets until I restart VS. There is a more detailed explanations in
this thread, but it was incorrectly marked as answered. This issue is taking more and more of my time though, so I'd like to get another answer now.
I've written approx 4 projects that utilize a central DLL for database access. The DLL was written in VB.NET using the .NET 3.1 framework. All the code works great. Recently, I went through all the code and updated the connection strings to use a new username and password since they were using the SA account on SQL Server 2005. After recompiling and uploading the DLL to the web server, I disabled the SA account. All of a sudden, the DLL stopped working. It just stopped. I know that the code is ok because I copied it into a aspx file and it worked. I had to re-enable the SA account in order to get things back to normal, but I really would like to eventually disable it.
