Please someone help me to find sources to learn writing macros for MS Office Word. I am ended up with getting web pages for only "Recording macro" explained in different ways. While seeing those web pages i got to remember the sentence.
"Sometimes people come up with awful analogies in an effort to describe a concept which is too difficult for a regular person to understand. An infinite number of monkeys hitting at an infinite number of typewriters for an infinite amount of time will eventually produce all works of Shakespeare.". from infinite monkey theorem. Recording macro is very easy one. Most of the writers ended up with writing this article. Please someone suggest me to learn writing Macros for MS Office Word. I am using Word 2007.
I am designing a shared add-in using VB.Net 2008 and VSTO that has to fire up when any MS Office App is started. It has to work for both 2002, 2003 and 2007 applications. I have managed to put together a working add-in that pops up a test message stating the version of Office and the Application name and tested this across all the apps ok.
The next part of the solution is to code the application specific code that needs to run for document auditing and corporate protective marking as well as, for example; in Excel checking that all the Add-Ins are linked to the Network Add-Ins folder.
My approach from now was going to be to late bind against the application object and set one of my typed (e.g. Excel) application object references which exist in the code to this object.
explain the use of "imports" at the top of each module. i am stumbling through development of an excel app in vsto and learning as i go.
in my project references i have added references and imported namespaces of everything that looks relevant to excel and office. am i then to add "imports" to the top of each module where relevant.
[code...]
before i added the imports microsoft.office.interop.excel i had no access to xldirection method. what other import namespaces(????) are needed and in what modules?
i have a couple of books that i am referring to, but none seem to start at the beginning and explain what this imports does / is for.
I am trying to save a ListObject from a .NET 3.5 Excel 2007 VSTO Workbook to a new sheet (done) and save that new sheet to a new workbook (done) without that workbook requiring the VSTO customization file (!!!!!).
Has anyone had any luck with this? The only way I've had any success is just saving as a CSV file but that's not exactly acceptable in this case. I'd rather not save to a CSV just to copy back to a XLS file.
I have been assigned the task of tracking training records used by multiple departments within my company. Before, they would fill out ISO Standard Forms that are built in MS Excel and save them in one folder. This folder held ALL of the documents used by multiple departments, training on multiple topics. The first assignment was to organize this, which I did by building macros in the forms to save these files in a document tree that was built dependent on some data from the form itself. Then they asked me for a program to make it easy to find these files, so I built a program that would populate a series of dropdown boxes that worked their way through the tree. Now they want to add a SQL database to track data from the sheet and add an archiving feature that checks the revision number of the form and moves it to another folder if there are higher revisions.
im using Microsoft office 11.0 object library in vb.net application to do word process,in that im not able to attache the macro file and add-ins in that word application to run macro.how to run macros using vb.net application?
I have a VSTO application, rendering a word documement. At each stage of the rendering a popup window is getting displayed. What we have done is displayed a popup window, and at each stage of the rendering the text is made Changed. I need to display the window using multithreading. How to achieve this.
I've developed a Word template in VSTO. When published it consits of several files including a Setup.exe, several msi files etc.Due to the fact that my company's security policy won't allow me to store dlls and exes on the server I need an alternative way to provide all the necessary stuff to the end user. I thoght it would be enough if I:
1) execute the setup.exe file on each client machine (it says everything got properly installed)
2) upload the xxx.dotm file to sharepoint and register it
3) edit policy settings
but it doesn't. When a user creates a new Document inside sharepoint using "New"->"xxx" the requested document loads without any error message and show the document but Word won't load any extensions / ribbons etc.
I'm writing a VSTO add-in to add a button the Standard toolbar for all new MailItems in Outlook 2003. I've got it mostly finished, but I can't see to work out how to set the button's position on the taskbar I'd like to place it right next to the Send button. Here's the code I have so far.
Private Sub colInsp_NewInspector(ByVal Inspector As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Inspector) Handles colInsp.NewInspector
I am trying to end all running macros, but also keep my userform up and it will not work. If you know anything that will work or if there is another way to reactivate a userform
I've never worked with VSTO and I've recently read all kinds of stuff about it. So I ask a theoretical question. I'm trying to make an addin which should (using buttons in it's own ribbon tab) upload the document to my website (it's like slideshare). The problem is that this file may be already uploaded and the user may be just trying to update it.
So I need a way to tell if this file has already been uploaded. I know the prediction can't be 100% accurate, that's why I'm going to ask the user with a dialog, but I need it to be fairly clever to alert the user if the file MAY BE is already uploaded.
This assumption can be client-side only, with a database of some sort (in the addin itself).I thought of recording the file's name and based on this I can decide if the file is new or it's already uploaded.
PS. Working on Office 2010 with the latest version of VSTO in VS 2010. My main .net language is VB but samples in C# are more than welcome (if you have ones).
how should I proceed -- with a VB UserForm (eg upon clicking successively a Form Button) -- in order to have a [TextBox.Text] contain (in other words: to have a TextBox show), say, one sentence at a time, text obtained from a MS Word document. Then, also, since it is also essential to my ambitions: can I have all the functionalities of my twenty or so existing word macros (triggered each in Word itself by its corresponding shortcut) available for use in said Form's TextBox? Just as an example, I have macros to simply toggle words between singular and plural or that invert the relative positions of two words, while others are 100 lines long and do searches in another Word document containing glossary entries using bookmarks.I searched the Web for hours on end to get a foothold on this issue to no avail until someone finally hinted at "automation". Then a wealth of info surfaced, but so far I only managed to get as far as this:
Dim msword As Object msword = CreateObject("Word.Application") msword.Visible = True Dim wordDoc As Object wordDoc = msword.Documents.Open("C:\tests\mydoc.doc")
and, yes, I added references to Microsoft Office 11.0 Object Library and to Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library to my project. I am using Microsoft VB 2010 Express.
What happens is this: When this code runs, first I get a message saying the file is "locked for edition" (or something similar, for mine is a Portuguese version of Word) because it is being use by another user (myself). How should I overcome this hurdle. Then, never minding this initial problem, the dialog box message error offers my the chance of opening a copy as read only. I accept this option and the Word document opens beautifully. But after many trials and only errors, I still don't know how to code so as to get, for example, the first sentence of the document in my TextBox. And, again, will I be able to run my Word macros in the TextBox?
I tried for example:
Selection.MoveRight(Unit:=wdWord, Count:=1, Extend:=wdExtend) and wordDoc.Selection.MoveRight(Unit:=wdSentence, Count:=1, Extend:=wdExtend)
but they get blue/and/red underlined (illegal)Are Word VBA declarations per se not valid in VB? I have many more hurdles on the way I wish to such as (1) what tricks could I use so as no to loose original formatting when I finally learn how to get the sentences shown in the TextBox and subsequently paste them back into the Word document and (2) populating a ListBox with the content of a database record.
We have currently upgraded our development machines to Windows 7 and Office 2007. We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?
I wrote this little AddIn sample to show you a performance issue and how to avoid it?It is just a parse of an excel workbook and runned in the main excel process (0) and a random thread created by the timer.
Public Class ThisAddIn Dim a As System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher = System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher() Dim t As New Threading.Thread(New Threading.ParameterizedThreadStart(AddressOf threadTest)) Dim tm As New System.Timers.Timer(20000)
I need to call a VBA Function (accepting parameters and returning values) from a VSTO Add In Code base. The macro code base in the .xlsm file is as follows[code]...
need to create an excel workbook with macros that clients accessingthe web app will download. Data to populate the workbooks comes from a database and I need macros to generate lookup tables in the workbooks. I cannot automate Excel to do this sincewill NOT beinstalled on the server. Which tool or component can I use for this task?
I have a VSTO Outlook 2007 add-in that loads on startup. When it loads it does the following: [Code] When the email is sent the app works fine. But when I click on the Button, then the add in fires 2x times and when I use the context menu it also fires 2x times. Any idea why this might be?
I need to run some Word 2007 mailmerge macros on Windows 2003 terminal services. This is something we've done fine with Word 2000 but the 2007 macros won't work.I understand the issue being the 'pointers' in the macro to h:temp (h being the home drive for each user on the terminal serve). Word 2007 macros only seem to like c:, is that correct or is there a way to get the 2007 macros to use something other than c:.
i was wondering if someone could give me the final explanation on what i might be doing wrong here.I spent a lot of time reading around the net and the forum about how to add Threading capabilities to a VB project.
Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot). However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type
I've developed shared addin for Microsoft Word. I distribute this addin with my application and using Inno setup for installation. The Inno setup installs my application and then runs "myAddin.msi" file in order to install addin.
how to uninstall this addin programatically?
Right now, in order to uninstall addin, the user has to to it manually through control panel.
I'm trying to use the System.Windows.Forms.MonthCalendar control within a VSTO Excel workbook. I want the MonthCalendar to pop up when I click a button in the ribbon, but so far I can't get the control to display at all.
Private Sub DeliveryDateFromCalendarButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.Office.Tools.Ribbon.RibbonControlEventArgs) Handles DeliveryDateFromCalendarButton.Click
