I'm reading in values from an array of arbitrary size into a text box. Easy enough. However, in my application, certain values of the data are unusable and I'd like to give a visual warning to the user when this occurs. Whenever the data
is either negative or greater than 10, I'd like to display that value in red. How can I do this with a RTB?
I have a datagridview in a form in windows application in which I have a column which accepts date values. In this column I want user to enter numeric values alone and when the user moves to next cell the value should get formatted to date type value(ex: 05/09/09). Similarly I have another column which must accept alphabets alone.

Now I want to make the result column red if it's values is less than the "LOW" columns value or if it's value is greater than the "HI" columns value. I have a P/L chart which has a left scale (Y axis) which starts from a negative value. I want to format the axis labels (the major tick mark labels) so that the negative ones are red.
Something like;

I have some VB .NET software that interfaces to a load of old (but sound) COM objects. The VB provides a GUI for the COM objects, part of which consists of setting various options on the COM objects - several of which relate to string formatting.I have a simple pair of VB .NET functions that convert basic %f, %d, %g formats to/from .NET equivalents using a large select case covering specific common strings, but they don't cover all formats.[code]Before I start diving in and making it more versatile with some parsing, does anyone know of a class (eg VB or C# .NET) that provides a decent ready-made implementation? The reason for that is that XML files I work with are about 300Mb in size and indentation eats quite a lot of disk memory.

I've created a 'report string' that displays in my textbox like it has 3 columns; there's a VariableName, a VariableValue, and a VariableEffect (showing how applying that variable to the process affected it).In my textbox, any VariableValue entry that has 17 or greater characters gets 1 tabstop between Value and Effect; any entry 16 or less gets 2 tabstops, and any value 7 or less gets 3 tabstops which very neatly lines up the 3 columns.

lets say I have a form (form1) with lables a-z which are all designed with default text "0". So they all show 0 on program startup. which is fine. I also have a dialog with 2 TextBoxes; I want my program to update the default text/value on (only)form1 labels x, y and z to whatever was put into the textboxes when i press the OK button on the Dialog, so these specified labels show the 'new' value on next startup. Is it even possible or should I save the values to a file which loads the values in the specified labels on startup?
View 5 RepliesI have a VB Application that is loading an Array with Numbers from the Sequel Server that have numbers 315054 no cents and leaving the .00 off even numbers. I need to write out the number to a textfile that has 14 zero's to the left removing the decimal point from the number.
The Number should format and be written out like this:
00000031505400 in the text file.
My coding does this as long as the even number has a decimal point .00 but if the number comes in as 315054 into my array my coding gives an Argument error with the coding below.

Is there a way to check for no decimal point and then place the number with no .00 as 00000031505400?
The accounting people are entering the numbers into the server this way incorrectly. The .00 is suppose to be entered with it, but not all even numbers are entered this way without .00, just a few, but I need to check the number to see if there are decimals and without decimals do something. Could my coding be re-written to account for not having the .00 and to format the number correctly to avoid the argument error?
I need for any number to format with:
$3,000.00 would appear in server as 3000 or 3000.00 and should write out like this below: I need to check for decimals and without decimals and writeout the format like this below:
00000000300000.
I used to read a binary file by formatting a record type and then using the Get command to get the data. What is the equivalent in VB.net?

I'm using ODBC to export tables from a dataset to an Excel file without auto-formatting Excel or even needing to have Excel installed on the users PC. This works great but I just had a request to autosize the columns and make the header line bold. The only way I know of doing this is to fully automate Excel to control the row/column/cell formatting. Does anyone know a way of doing this without auto-formatting Excel?

When I look at a file on my hard disk, e.g. test.csv, when I look at the Properties of the file, it is officially known as, "Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File", and file types of .pdf are listed as "Adobe Acrobat Document", etc. etc. All of this information can be seen in Windows Explorer too when my folders are displayed by Details. How do you get at this "type of file" information with .NET?

Eg:
Line1: a, b, c, d, e
Line2: f, g, h, i
Line3: x, y ,z
I would like to read all first values of the lines, all second values of the lines, and store them in arrays.
This means that 'a,f,x' should go together, 'b,g,y' should go together, 'c,h,z' should go together, 'd,i' (only two because line3 hasnt got a 4th element) should go together, and finally 'e' (one because only line1 has a 5th element).
I have a question, that is: What is the easiest way to get Integer values from a file.The file is structured like this: (Without the text)10...How many values are in the file 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10..The values...I know how to do it, the hard way, but I need an easier way, to teach a friend the basics of Vb.net.

I have a problem reading a file with hex values.
The values have this format: (2C 0A 0B 45 32 38)
I�ve tried two different ways to open the file. The first one, is storing in a variable of type string,

so what I get is �2C0A0B453238�. Then I try to put them in pairs and reading as a HEX value, but I can�t. The only thing I get is the hex value of �2�, �C�, and so on. This is not what I�m looking for.
The second way is storing the values in a variable of type Byte:

The result here, is pretty the same as before. For the pair �0A� what I get is either (30,41) or (48,65) (hex values or Dec). What I need isn�t to convert a char to its Hex value (I saw several examples for this on this forum). What I need is to know that 0A means 10 (0A is a hex value itself)
