Nov 23, 2009I tried to skin my application and failed. I can get it to work if I don�t have semi transparent pixels on the outside of my form. But I want to use a skin I found on Deviant art that was made for Miranda. It is really nice but and it has a shadow around it. To get it to work in vb.net (I�m using 2005 btw) I have to fill around the main picture and take out the initializing (I think that is what it is called). But then the form�s edges are choppy. How does Miranda allow the shadows but I can�t in vb.net?
I first tried to do it the easy way. I set up some transparent panels with transparent pictureboxes in them and put my corners and middle fills as the backgrounds. I made the form with no border and set the transparent key to transparent. That didn�t work, so I made the form magenta and the transparent key magenta. The outside of the for where the shadow is was drawn on the magenta and the magenta bled through. So I edited the png�s to be magenta all around the form (eliminating the shadows) and it worked, but the corners were choppy.
Then tried some code I found on the net that tried to make a new control as a transparent panel. It was overriding the paint events and drawing to an off screen bitmap. I really didn't understand it and it just showed up as a blank screen. There has to be a way to do this.

Apply Changes To All Forms Of An Application
Jun 21, 2010Is there a way to apply any changes made to an entire application and not just the open (active) form that you are in? I.E. I change the backcolor to a color from a color dialog. I want that chosen color to be applied to all the forms' backcolor in my project. Can this also then be applied to all the other controls' backcolor? The code that I posted works but all forms and controls have to have the changes applied to each one separately.

Aug 31, 2009I am working on a program that has about 20 checkboxes on it. What I want to be able to do is to check the checkboxes and then hit an apply button then at that point whatever is checked/ or if something is unchecked the code for that item is run and those changes are applied. If the box is checked it disables the service if it is unchecked it enables the service.
the code I have so far is this for each service I want turned off i have placed under a button name ApplyEach service is a different registry entry and service name, some are just registry key changes.the code seemed to work at first but that is when I only had one checkbox under the button.
I know I have done something wrong with the program logic here Im just not sure how to fix it as I've only been using VB.net for 2 weeks now... I can't find any reference on the internet to having multiple checkboxes with an apply type button. Just like in a normal windows application where the apply button is used to apply the changes on the form.

May 5, 2010I have a windows form that is set up like one big calendar for the month of may.when you click on May 1st...another form (form2) opens up with some combo boxes and a datagridView on it. What I need to do is on Form 1 (my calendar form)when you click on May 2nd...I want to open a duplicate form 2..the one with all the combo boxes on it.do I have to make 30 duplicate forms ( for 31 days of May)or is there an easier way to make sure that when the user clicks on May2...they dont get a form filled with May1 stuff.I can see that there is going to be a problem as it sits now because I am going to be adding to form 2 some kind of date box, or a date field in my gridview..So I need each form to display the right date?

May 30, 2012I created a new windows form application using VB 2010. I added no controls to the form. This is right "out of the box" app created by the VB windows form app wizard. I next added a FormClosed event handler. The handler gets called whenever I click the "x" on the form.Later I needed to close the form programatically in response to an event from an automation client. So I did something apparently farily dumb. I called "Me.Close()" Nothing happens. The form stays up on the screen. My FormClosed event handler is NOT called.The MSDN entry for "Close" doesn't give me a clue as to why this call doesn't work. Indeed, it seems to imply it should work.So I added a couple of lines of code after calling "Close()" since when I stepped across that line of code it appears that no other code would execute. Sure enough, as soon as I step over the call to Close(), I cannot step through any other lines of code.
Then I found another piece of form code while searching around and I found the code had what appeared to be an odd keyword just dangling in the code. The keyword, colored by the IDE as a VB keyword?So I typed "End" into my method and intellisense shows me "End Statement. Stops execution immediately". And it does. But is my FormClosed event handler called. No.I added "Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form" to see if that had any effect. No change.So how does a form close itself programatically?

Aug 5, 2010In my (VB.Net+VS2008) application, I want to make my windows form (splash) more responsive as there is some complex functionality is performing while loading splash form. Currently when any other application come in front of splash screen and then minimize then splash screen looses its proper visibility and showing some hang kind of state also.
I used Application.DoEvents(), but it doesnt work. I cant use background worker because it doesnt support UI related changes. i.e. Initializing some UI components on shown event of splash screen.

Oct 13, 2010I have a small program that works just fine on my desktop (23 inch monitor). I programmed it on this computer as well. My laptop (17 inch monitor) works fine also, however, on a 15 inch monitor the picturebox's are off and not where they were when I programmed it. Also, some forms you can not see the entire form and the bottom is cut off.
