How can I update and get values in a Windows Forms application while moving one form to other form (like cookies)?
I need to update the values to some variable and again I am going to refer stored values and need to do some calculations.
I have used cookies in ASP.NET but I am not able to find out the same concept in .NET Windows Forms (C#).
How can these issues be resolves?
I want to take the values from textboxes on a windows form and then update the values in the sql server database...I want to update only those fields for which a value has been entered by the user and leave the database fields as it is (no change or updation) for which the textboxes are left empty by the user.....I opted for sql command and then i couldn't find out How can I generate the query dynamically for such a situation??? Like I intialize the string by str= " Update Bookings set " and then how i can alter it by considering the textbox values that have been changed....I couldn't find the way...I need shortest and optimized code for this situation....

I was using 2 forms, the first one has general data capture and the second one is a calendar form. On Form1 I have mulitple windows controls. A Textb ox and beside a Calendar button. When I click on a Calendar Command button, it should open calendar form and once the user selects the date, the date should be placed in the text box on the form1. Identical to this on Form1 I need multiple textboxes that needs date to be captured.I cannot use a global variable for this as I need to validate mulitple text boxes. To explain this, I have a Transaction Date and Date Received. I need to validate whether Transaction date is prior Date Received or not? I dont want to use several global variables b'coz I might need multiple validations as above. Please help me on this.

It's a windows form that uses a dataset and tableadapter (which show in the tray below). Now I'm developing a different project that requires a very similar form. I'm upgrading a project from VB6 to VB2008.I have a routine that clears a combo box, named 'cmbDataTable' which could be on any form. I pass the form and the combo box is cleared.

I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
I could review that could help me create a designer view (actually similar to how Visual Studio works but more basic), I would like to be able to add controls dynamically (just panels or images), then move those around individually(drag and drop), then count them all and get an array of what I have added..[code]But I would like to get an idea how it looks if things get more complicated..I wonder, are we able to use the classes of Visual Studio's editor in some way? Or are there .NEt classses that can do this?

However, the issue is that TOtalAMount is getting updated automatically but FinalPrice is not getting updated. Any reasons/mistakes I have done. I have tried it a lot in few ways but could not get that working. What i did not understand is that Total amount is getting updated but Final price isn't.
I would like to know if its possible to start up a second windows forms inside the parent form. Ex: A button is pressed and a new form is showed. I would like to keep that new form inside the parent form, and have it not be able to go outside the parent form.

I have been told someting like strSQLselectQuery = rtb_select.text would work however because rtb_select is in a different form in the same project it does not recognise rtb_Select

View 7 RepliesI have two, soon to be many spreadsheet files. There are cell references between the files which need to be updated. I would write this in a excel macro but these spreadsheets are design tables for Solidworks, a CAD system and it does not allow macro enabled workbooks. So what I would like to do is push a button and open all of the spreadsheets, accept the update workbook prompt then save and close the files.
I've seen a similar command developed by someone using the Soildworks API but updating design tables in solidworks takes ALOT of time to run compared to just opening and closing spreadsheets.I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 along with Excel 2010 Beta 2 (I like to have the new things)

I have a windows form where I want the time to constantly be updated. Right now it will take the current time from when the program was started.
For example, if I started the program at 4:30:29 PM that is what it will show the whole time the program runs.I need it to constantly be updated as the seconds tick by. So, If I started the program at 4:30:29 PM and ran it for exactly 5 minutes, the time displayed then should be 4:35:29 PM.The data being taken in and saved needs a time associated with it and the end user also need to know the current time as the program is ran in full-screen. What I need to do is on Form 1 (my calendar form)when you click on May 2nd...I want to open a duplicate form 2..the one with all the combo boxes on it.do I have to make 30 duplicate forms ( for 31 days of May)or is there an easier way to make sure that when the user clicks on May2...they dont get a form filled with May1 stuff.I can see that there is going to be a problem as it sits now because I am going to be adding to form 2 some kind of date box, or a date field in my gridview..So I need each form to display the right date?

View 2 RepliesI created a new windows form application using VB 2010. I added no controls to the form. This is right "out of the box" app created by the VB windows form app wizard. I next added a FormClosed event handler. The handler gets called whenever I click the "x" on the form.Later I needed to close the form programatically in response to an event from an automation client. So I did something apparently farily dumb. I called "Me.Close()" Nothing happens. The form stays up on the screen. My FormClosed event handler is NOT called.The MSDN entry for "Close" doesn't give me a clue as to why this call doesn't work. Indeed, it seems to imply it should work.So I added a couple of lines of code after calling "Close()" since when I stepped across that line of code it appears that no other code would execute. Sure enough, as soon as I step over the call to Close(), I cannot step through any other lines of code.
Then I found another piece of form code while searching around and I found the code had what appeared to be an odd keyword just dangling in the code. The keyword, colored by the IDE as a VB keyword?So I typed "End" into my method and intellisense shows me "End Statement. Stops execution immediately". And it does. But is my FormClosed event handler called. No.I added "Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form" to see if that had any effect. No change.So how does a form close itself programatically?
I have a form with a list that shows information from a database. I want the list the update in run time (or almost real time) every time something changes in the database. These are the three ways I can think of to accomplish this:Set up a timer on the client to check every few seconds: I know how to do this now, but it would involve making and closing a new connection to the database hundreds of times an hour, regardless of whether there was any change Build something sort of like a TCP/IP chat server, and every time a program updates the database it would also send a message to the TCP/IP server, which in turn would send a message to the client's form: I have no idea how to do this right now Create a web service that returns the date and time of when the last time the table was changed, and the client would compare that time to the last time the client updated: I could figure out how to build a web service, but I don't how to do this without making a connection to the database anyway The second option doesn't seem like it would be very reliable, and the first seems like it would consume more resources than necessary. Is there some way to tell the client every time there is a change in the database without making a connection every few seconds, or is it not that big of a deal to make that many connections to a database?
