Forms :: Get The Name Of The Control That Calls The OnEnter?

May 31, 2009

I'm just starting to look at Custom Controls after watching a MS video online. Video Training - WindowsClient.net I wondered if it's possible to get the name of the control that calls the OnEnter event that I am running.

[Code]...

I wanted to add a new combobox to the form and it always call this GetComboList each time OnEnter BUT I need to pass the combobox that the onEnter is firing from. Would save code and give me an insight into how custom controls work.

Win32 API - Equivalent To Making System Calls Abd And Library Calls In UNIX?

May 8, 2010

What the Win32 API is? I have looked around but no where really outlines what it is. Is it basically a set of procedures, outlined by Microsoft for programmers in order to get services from the operating system? In essence is it the equivalent to making system calls abd and library calls in UNIX? And yes I now Windows makes library calls too.

.net - Control.Invoke Never Calls Delegate?

Oct 1, 2009

I'm working with the DevExpress XtraGrid control.I have a routine that goes thru and adds all the controls on the current form dynamically, and launches on a seperate thread the routine for a given control to initialize it to the value that will be displayed to the end-user. Some of the controls are displaying calculated values, and take some time to return their values, so that's why we are doing it on a seperate thread.

[Code]...

I'm using a similar snippet of code for any control properties that have to be updated, and all work fine. On the above code when the actual Invoke is called, it APPEARS that the thread just ends and never calls the delegate, and doesn't return to finish either.

Asp.net - Legacy ActiveX Control Calls DLL Functions?

Sep 1, 2010

Hint: this one might sound complicated, because I am trying to give as much info as possible, but I suspect that I just want someone to tell me "yes, you are correct".On this legacy system, which dates from 2002, the user visits a web page and uses an RFID reader to read a tag number, which is then written to an input field on the web page.

The only s/w that comes with the reader is a custom DLL, nop .exe. The very sparse documentation insists that only MSIE be used and that all security relating to ActiveX be disabled.When I look into the source of the web page I see calls to functions in the DLL.Now, here's the fun part: I know zilch about ActiveX, I have to make a minor change to the DLL _but_ the VB6 source code has been lost, so I guess that I have to recreate the (seemingly very simple) DLL from scratch - this week.

Decompiling the DLL shows me the functions (locateReader, getTagVal, closeReader). However, by decompiling I can't really know the number or type of the parameters, nor the return values ... and if anyone knows the API they are refusing to share it, but basically it all seems to have been lost in the mists of time as companies went bust, were bought & sold, merged & demerged and the initial DLL might have been written by an external guy, but no one knows who.So, can I get the function params & type from the ASP page source?I see things like

Reader = new ActiveXObject("<dllName>.Reader");
Reader.locateReader();
tagVal = Reader.getTagVal();
Reader.closeReader();

I would say that none of the fn()s take parameters, that closeReader doesn't have to return anything; it looks like locateReader doesn't return anything either, so I guess that error handling will have to be in the DLL (loop forever with a popup demanding that a reader be attached; and getTagVal seems to return a string.

Last Activate Control - Event Leave Calls Another Sub?

Nov 30, 2010

MSDN brings nothing up, so here was my attempt at a work around.

[code]...

Because event leave calls another sub i need the last active control. I have the textbox name txtTime{0} but obviously string is not a control.

So Two questions:

1) can a string value be attached to an existing control if i know it's name? Dim attControl as Control = newTime

2) All this could be avoided in event leave if i could get the left controls name. I have tried sender. tostring etc but nothing returns the textboxs name

Winforms - .NET 2.0 - StackOverflowException When Using Thread Safe Calls To Windows Forms Controls

Sep 22, 2011

I have a Windows Forms app that, unfortunately, must make calls to controls from a second thread. I've been using the thread-safe pattern described on the [URL].. Which has worked great in the past.

The specific problem I am having now: I have a WebBrowser control and I'm attempting to invoke the WebBrowser.Navigate() method using this Thread-Safe pattern and as a result I am getting StackOverflow exceptions. Here is the Thread-Safe Navigate method I've written.

Forms :: Make A Label Control Transparent Over A Panel Control?

Jul 9, 2009

I'm trying to make a label control transparent over a Panel control.However by setting the background colour of the label to Transparent, it actually sees right through to the form itself, not the panel as intended.

As an example we use a panel with a background as white, we make the label transparent, however it gets the forms colour as blue.However, we are using a custom panel control and need the label to be transparent over the panel and not see the forms background.

Forms :: Design Time Control Behaviour On Tab Control?

Feb 9, 2011

i have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.

wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?

Forms :: Which Is The Best Control To Use?

Feb 14, 2010

I have a winform project which I'm converting from a web project. In the web project I display "Notes" data from a data table into a table in three distinct parts. First the header, where the text color is based on the priority of the note. The second part is a short description of the note content and the third part is the complete note. The question I have is what is the best control for this in winforms? I guess I could use a text box and use it like a web text area. The data will be read only and will need to scroll since the amount of real estate on the screen accounts for only about a third of a 1024 X 768 screen.

Forms In Tab Control

Apr 7, 2011

IDE: VB.NET (2008)I have an mdi form in my program. As usual this mdi form acts like a container to several child forms. However, I need to implement a tabbed system so that my forms rather than appearing in mdi form should appear in a tab page.So I inserted a tab control on my mdi form and when a form is added I say TabPage1.Controls.Add(Form). It seems to be working okay until I found out that now my form is like a control so methods like Me.GetActiveMDIChild etc won't work.

Generally when a particular child form is selected we can know when we see the titlebar. In this case because forms are added as controls there is no difference in the titlebar of a selected or non selected form.Can I determine which form is selected. Something like Me.ActiveMdiChild. I can go through control collection of a tab page to get a list of forms but figuring out which form is selected is something I don't know.

Forms :: Changing Look Of Tab Control

Sep 17, 2009

I'm quite new at this but I'm trying to change the look of a tab control other than the options provided in the control's properties. In short I want to create a large tab that will fit a picture but I don't know how to change the size of the tab. I also want to make the control look somewhat different than what the control provided with VS.NET looks like.

What I need to know is how to create a custom control that operates the same as tabcontrol but looks different than the traditional control provided with VS. I tried looking up how to create a custom control but all I could find was how to create one programatically and I don't know how it would apply to a tab control. Maybe the only way to do it is programmatically but I would rather play with the control in the designer than having it appear only at runtime.
