View 4 RepliesI have several multi-line textboxes that I want to lose focus (i.e. when the user presses the right arrow key) but the control wil not relinquish the focus.Simply put, I first verify if the selection start is at the end of the text, if it is, and the user presses the arrow key, it should move to the next textbox. some debug.print code placed in strategic locations indicates that the target textbox gets focus and immediately loses it and the source textbox gains focus once again. Essentially not allowing the textbox to lose focus.

After changing the source textbox multi-line property to false, it behaves as expected. Is this a "feature" .. surely I don't have to resort to "SendKeys"

This input string could contain a format that I do not want and whilst the keypress event caters for the need when the user is typing I need to handle it in the case of a text assignment.I thought firing the keypress event after I assigned the text property but I dont think that will offer what I want.

View 1 RepliesOn the KeyDown event of the textbox, i need to capture the character pressed and send it to a function which fires a sql query for this character.To get the character i am using Convert.ToChar(e.keycode).However Convert.Tochar converts the keycode to char according to its ASCII value , thus F4 gets converted to "s" as "s" has ASCII keycode of 115.Is there some other way to convert the keycode to character which won't make these wrong conversions as even if i restrict the functions keys there may be problem with other key conversion also.
View 2 RepliesI got a Sub which processes a code, and then it does whatever the code said. Example.
Code = "Black" -> Turns screen black.
Code = "OFF" -> Turns off the PC.
And so on.
If I call that Sub from Immediate console, It works perfectly. But if that Sub is called from an event, It does nothing, and usually throws an Exception. I read somewhere that I can fix this by using Threads, but I don't understand how that can help and make it work.
So I am playing around with the resize event. My form is 500 wide, my button.left is at 100. If I use:

The number in the texbox is correct - proportion wise, but it won't set the button1.Left to this number. I'm sure this is because int is a Double where .Left is an integer?
OK, so my project is like this:The user selects a folder from their computer that holds a list of subfolders. The program then dynamically inserts a check boxes per subfolder within a seperate cell of a Table Layout Panel.I want to and a simple Click event to each checkbox control so that when a control is clicked, it counts all of the check boxes on the form that are checked.How do I go about adding the event handler to the checkboxes when they are created. Well , it works when I click escape my form closes , but.. if I have pressed by accident or some else matter any of the arrow keys (up , down , left , right) before escape and then hit escape nothing happens. I checked if any other key does that and as I see it does not.
I just want to ask why my KeyPress event is apparently not working. What I want is that when I press the letter m, the selectedindex property of my listboxes would change. Here is the code;

View 2 RepliesI am trying to create keypress handler that will execute a line of code when Tab, Space, or Enter key is pressed or passed by the scanner gun while the control is in focus. I got it to work with space and enter key but with tab key, the cursor will just jump to the next tab stop without executing the code.

I'm trying to create an application that uses a PictureBox to display an image. I use the arrows keys to switch images and the space bar to rotate the current image. Since the KeyDown or KeyPress events don�t get fired when I click the arrow keys, I had to override ProcessCmdKey. It works fine, the problem is: the applications also has a few buttons and when I click an arrow key the image gets switched but the button�s focus change as well, worst yet, when I press the space bar, the image gets rotated but the button which has the focus gets pressed.

I am trying to add to items to a combobox by using the "enter" key. It does work when I add the first item, but if I manually clear the box and add another items it does not get added to the list.
(1) I click in the combobox and type "hello" and press the "enter" key
(2) I click on the dropdown arrow and see that "hello" is in the list
(3) I select "hello" in the box and erase it, item is still in the list
(4) I type "goodbye" in the box and press the "enter" key
(5) "hello" is still in the list but "goodbye" is not

if I comment the if/end if line and type "hello" the items added to the combobox list are: "h", "he", "hel", "hell", "hello" wich makes sens since the add items is run on every keypress? I know that my commands for adding items is good, I know that my keypress event is handled properly but not when I specify using the "enter" key.

This is not so much a problem when the app. is running, unnecessary yes. It is giving me problems when ever I am Debugging using Breakpoints. How can I change the Handler so it only runs when the Enter Key is Pressed, doing away with the If statement?

As part of a program that I am composing, the user needs to enter a value by way of a NumericUpDown control on one particular form. Once this and other criteria have been evaluated, the program will then move to the next "step" of the program. If they use the spinner built into the NumericUpDown control, the event is fired on every change and that's all well and good, but if they double-click the value in the control then type the value in manually, it doesn't fire until the control no longer has focus. I can't depend that this might be the case however. Using the "KeyPress" event, I can in fact know when the control has focus and the user has typed but what I cannot seem to get it to do is to get the control to "read" these keystrokes as values until the control loses focus.
View 3 RepliesI'm using VB.NET (2008) and .NET framework 3.5. In my application I've got an on screen button that, when pressed, sends "00" as the characters [via SendKeys.Send("00")]. I also have a keyboard that has a '00' key that sends "00", two zeros, when pressed. I'm picking up the keypress using the form's KeyDown event - it fires twice, once for each "0" and works whether the on-screen or keyboard '00' is pressed. There's also a singe '0' on-screen button and key on the keyboard that sends "0".
I want to be able to treat the "00" as a single event. I.E. in the KeyDown handler, if the character is a single zero "0", I would like to check the next character to see if it is also a zero "0". If it is then I can handle it appropriately, but also need to remove it (from the keyboard buffer?) so that it doesn't fire the second KeyDown event. If it's not a zero then it should be left to fire the next event in the normal fashion.
