Forum software not detecting every previous action by each forum user?
I ask as I have had quite a number of "proposed answers" in the past.[code]....

View 3 Repliesit might help to change the forum name to Visual Basic .NET General Forum. or VB.NET General Forum maybe would help the vba and vb6 developers know this is not for them.

I'm currently coding a button which will delete a record from a database if clicked. However, I want some sort of confirmation after they click it so there are no accidents. I was imagining a popup box that tells them they are about to delete this record with two buttons cancel and OK. If cancelled, nothing happens, but if OK is pressed, then the server would execute the delete as coded. How would I do this in asp/vb?

In Flash 10 there are methods that require that they are triggered from user-initiated actions like button click, keyboard up/down keys, etc.Is it possible to implement this behaviour in .NET? For example, if we have this subroutine:
void SomeMethod() {
// Here some stuff
}
how to check inside it whether the method was called from a mouse click event handler?Also we can think of this methods like the protected functions in World of Warcraft.
EDIT: Looks like this behaviour is implemented in Silverlight — we can popup file dialogs (open, save) ONLY by mouse click or other user-initiated action, otherwise a SecurityException will be thrown. I want to achieve this bevaviour but in my case it's not a file dialog but our own methods.

Changed thread type to QUESTION. I was then able to mark AS ANSWER the relevent post which now also immediately follows this post and so it is easier to find as suggested by forum user j2associates .
<edit> It is also my 3rd post in this thread, the 8th one up, of my posts, from the bottom ( for now ), as the forum format has changed yet again.I will leave the rest of this post( as is ) purely for historical reasons. I have been on these forums long enough to see 3 forum changes. <edit> 19th May, 2010> Link added to a video on the next line of text.

Within the application, I need to have two levels of access: Standard User and Power User,for example.These two levels can have the same access level within Windows.It is not my intention to elevate to administratoWhat is needed, is a way to have two different groups of users.ne group will be able to run the application while a second group has access to additional features within the application but not within the windows environment
It is my hope that there will be two user account types: 1) Standard User and 2) some other user type such as Power User or something else that will distinguish it from Standard User
Basically i want to send a created file over a local network via FTP. If the username/password/IP address is incorrect the application just crashes.
Is there anyway i can detect if the credentials are correct? etc.
Code I'm using to upload the created file is;
My.Computer.Network.UploadFile("C:lini.ftp", "ftp://" + ftpUser.Text + ":" + ftpPass.Text + "@" + ftpIP.Text + ":21/Usb0/launch.ini")
Recently while I was playing with VS 2008(VB), I have created an application for folder sync purpose... which is working fine. Then, I have created a windows service that does the same thing and it is also working fine(from application perspective). But, I have been trying to add some additional functionality to that new service. It keeps on running as long as System is ON.
But I would like to change the functionality to... as soon as user logs off Service should STOP, and should START when user logs into that PC. I tried to find some useful info online(related to my task) and all I could come up with was to add OnSessionChange(...) method to the service. But for some reason it is not working out for me(when I've logged off or other system events such as 'system lock').

View 1 RepliesAfter running the following code (which locks the computer), what code must I be applying to see if the user has successfully logged into the computer and that "Lock Screen" I'd so called has disappeared?
Private Declare Function LockWorkStation Lib "user32.dll" () As Long
Private Function LockComputer()
LockWorkStation()
End Function
I will call "LockComputer", after that what do I do to see if the Lock screen so called by this function (after say 2 minutes) has disappeared or is still there asking for the password from the user.
I have a Windows vb.net project that does an occasional "auto refresh" based on a 20 minute timer. I want to avoid any type of auto-refresh... if the user has manually had any interaction with the program (mouse move, click, keystroke, anything) in the past 5 minutes.
I added a global variable "Dim g_LastActivity As Date" so the timer can detect that 5 minute mark.
Is there some place to put my "g_LastActivity = NOW" line that will ensure it will happen during ANY user activity? All mouse clicks, on all buttons, all mouse moves, anywhere, all keystrokes, basically EVERYTHING.
I need to open a new instance of IE and direct it to a web page when a user takes a specific action.Used are random so setting anything on their machine is not an option.This works great on my local machine in developent but when deployed to my server it fails with no error.I must be missing a permission or something simple understanding that on the server things are run under the ASPNET account.My code is in a code class, myCode.We are in VS 2008 and IIS 6.Tried a couple of different things, they all fail silently.

a datacontext defined in a module(domain services ado.net ria)a page having add/delete methods whenever any method is executed, it is found that all the previous actions (NEW RECORD ADDITION and DELETION OF RECORDS) are carried out before the new action is carried out normally
this behaviour is not prominent but "when using break points and inspecting the values of the variables and table object to be added to context, it is clear that all the previous actions take place again. even when the datacotext. savechanges is called, even after that still all actions carried out on the datacontext repeat themseleves, when any new action is to be carried out
I'm writing an Excel file recovery program with VB.Net that tries to be a convenient place to gather and access Microsoft's recommended methods. If your interested in my probably kludgy, error filled, and lacking enough cleanup code it's here: http:[url]..... The basic functionality seems to work although I haven't tested graph macro table recovery yet.
It occurred to me that Vista and Windows 7 users could benefit from being offered a list of previous versions of the file within my application if the Shadow Copy Service is on and there are previous copies. How do I do this?I looked at a lot of web pages but found no easy to crib code. One possibility I guess would be to use vssadmin via the shell but that is pretty cumbersome. I just want to display a dialogue box like the Previous Versions property sheet and allow users to pick one of the previous versions. I guess I could just display the previous version property sheet via the shell by programmatically invoking the context menu and the "Restore previous versions choice", however I also want to be able to offer the list for Vista Home Basic and Premium Users who don't have access to that tab even though apparently the previous versions still exist. Additionally if it possible I would like to offer XP users the same functionality although I'm pretty sure with XP only the System files are in the shadow copies.
I looked at MSDN on the Shadow Copy Service and went through all the pages, I also looked at AlphaVSS and AlphaFS and all the comments. I'm kind of guessing that I need to use AlphaVss and AlphFS and do the following?Find out the list of snapshots/restore points that exist on the computer.Mount those snapshots.Navigate in the mounted volumes to the Excel file the user wants to recover and make a list of those paths.With the list of paths handy, compare with some kind of diff program, the shadow copies of the files with the original.Pull out the youngest or oldest version (I don't think it matters) of those shadow copies that differ from the recovery target.List those versions of the files that are found to be different.This seems cumbersome and slow, but maybe is the fastest way to do things. I just need some confirmation that is the way to go now.
In Datagridview, Set as DatagridView1.ReadOnly=True,
Dgv1.Rows.Add()
When i tried to add a Row, it is copying previous Row data to new row,and also blank the previous row, why?Like Insert Row, Why...?
I'm looking for a library for Autocomplete support in text controls which remembers all previous entries of the user and provide auto-complete support for it.For example for "recent files" I use [URL] and it works great. Do you know something like that for this purpose?
UPDATE : This is a .NET Winforms application and I'm using normal Text Control.
Every time I compile my app and the version number changes (I have an auto-incrementing build number), I lose the user-configured app.config settings, since they're stored in the AppData folder for a specific version. Essentially, every release of my application starts from scratch as far as user settings go.
While this is a mild annoyance in development, it raises the question as I approach deployment/release - if I use the app.config to store my user settings, will the user's personalized settings be hosed every time they install a patch that changes the version number of my app? If so, is there an easy way to "upgrade" the settings from the previous release? I know that using HKCU in the registry is another option, but I like the ease of the My.Settings namespace, and I'd like to stay with app.config.
I have a little bit of trouble figuring out why I am getting these error messages. Here is the error messages and then the code will follow behind it.The code is taken directly out of the book "ASP.NET 2.0 Everyday Applications for DUMMIES". [code]

I'm supposed to make a game for a friend of mine, or for his site more specifically which has an IPB forum. He wants only users from his site to be able to use the game, so I need to make some kind of authentication so that only registered users can login. I have no idea how to do it and all research turned sour I'd prefer not to have to deal with cookies, but POST instead since I have a wicked awesome wrapper at my disposition
