I have rently deployed a VB windows application. It uses ADO typed datasets and datagrids.
On a couple of machine, if the application is left opened for a while (about more than 30 minutes), it gives no response. In order to restart it, I need to end the process vie the Task manager.
How would I even begin to troubleshoot why it is "hanging up"?
I am trying to check for certain processes that is running and then inform the user of those processes via textbox like "The programs; -name of the processes running goes here- are running". [code]

it works. it gets process names (but without extentions) what i want to do now is to get the image path of each process. i think i will have to use a different control probably data grid view. can somebody tell me how to add items to datagridview instead of listbox? and how to get each process image path( to data grid view)?
I have a program that instantiates Excel, programatically updates it, and then closes it. In some cases, when I look in the task manager/processes, I can still see 1 or more copies of Excel running.
1) Is there a way I can, after creating an object reference to Excel, identify the PID or some other unique identification?
2) Using that, is there a way, after I think I have told Excel to go away, to see if the PID (or whatever) is still active?
3) Given that I have a PID, can I get a new object reference and try to tell it to go away nicely
4) If it still won't go away, can I force an end process of the task?
5) Is there a library or routine available that will return the active processes so I can search to see if there are any copies of Excel still running?
6) using the approach in 5, can I also find out if the item associated with the PID is running just as a process and not as an application?
I want to be able to cycle through the active processes on the system and find when my program starts? It has the name 'Calculate Distance' as the form1.vb text. There fore, I want to be able to close a splash screen when the form1 loads. This requires checking currently running processes. How do I do that in VB.NET 2005?

I have created a program that when a user registers, it sends an email to that user, and three of my email addresses. The problem is that while it is sending, the window is un-usable and "does not respond" and the icon changes to the white box thing when you click on it. is there a way that i can run this process behind the program, so the window is still usable, but it still sends the emails?
View 1 RepliesI have a sub-procedure which I want to run a different process, depending on what is currently running. I thought the easiest way to do this was by using an ArrayList of each of the campaign details & adding an 'Inuse' field to check to see if the Inuse field is set to 0 or 1. The problem that I have is that when running the process it is all happening at once & the integer hasn't been changed before the next thread kicks in so my threads are running the same campaigns. I tried to avoid the problem by adding a Thread.Sleep(100) delay inbetween starting threads but this led to exactly the same problem.

I want to show elapsed time in a label and after the elapsed time hits 5 seconds show the next item. This is not possible using the Thred.Sleep method, because it just freezes my application for 5 seconds, and shows the next item without ever updating the label with elapsed time.So what to use instead of Thread.Sleep to not freeze the application and update the label with elapsed time?
View 1 RepliesI have a Data Acquisition and Control application that controls at 10 Hz and logs at 1 Hz. Both of those timers call a separate. I recently added a feature to the program to request 6 characters from a server for the barometric pressure. (29.206, etc) It works for the most part, but two weeks ago a computer froze, last week another one froze, and two froze this morning. I have not had freezing problems in the nearly three years this program has been running 24/7. Turns out they disconnected the server this morning, so that explains the simultaneous freezes in two test cells. I used a try catch statement, but apparently that wasn't good enough. how I can make this code more robust?

I'm using a MySQL connector in VB .Net to execute a batch of SQL inserts. This is typically on the order of 5k statements and takes around 30 minutes to process. Unfortunately, when this process is running and I use a different application on the system, upon returning to the .net app it hangs and shows "not responding". In fact, as soon as I click anywhere else in the application (move to a different tab, for example) everything locks up.

I am trying to create an application that will identify a process using over 50% of the CPU and set its affinity to run only on core 0. How should I go about creating this? P.S. I am trying to create this application because my PC has been creating this really anoying screaching sound when a process randomly uses over 50% of my CPU. (I have a dual-core, AMD sadly.)

The killprocess part works fine. However, if I try a "For Each App As Process In Process.GetProcessesByName("chrome"") approach and have several chrome windows open then it will display the question 5 times if there are 5 chrome processes open.
We are currently developing a WPF/Entity-Framework based application.One of our requirements was to allow the user option to select which environment(testing, training, or production) they will connect to when logging in.Each connection option points to its own database.In order to do this we are creating new EF contexts in the following way:[code]We have made sure that all new contexts are being disposed of once its job is completed.The problem is this: when the users are using the application we are seeing hundreds of SQL Server processes in SQL Server's activity monitor. Some individual users have upwards of 30+ processes associated when using the app. Once the user shuts down the app the associated processes all disappear - but while the app is running these processes seem to stick around.

After it has listed them all I enable my timer, and in the timer there gets checked if the process is in the process list (string), and if it isn't it will add it to my listbox. The only problem is, it's not working, it's never adding an item.

I have a Console app that loops through a queue and processes each record in a datatable. Each process is long and time-consuming (connecting to a remote website, downloading files, reading them and adding them to the database). I'm trying to implement threading for speed's sake but am having cross-threading issues. (The job takes 8 hours or so to run and the cross-threading doesn't start happening until a couple hours into the run.)I'm trying to figure out how to make my code thread safe. I don't update or rely on any non-local variables, and I don't need to return anything. I've tried locking which works but defeats the purpose of the multiple threads. What other things should I be looking for?
