I need to sort the rows in a bindingsource. When I sort by a field name, ASC, it works correctly, but when I sort in DESC mode, instead of being the opposite of ASC, it sorts the rows whose fields have the same value in ASC order. For example:
I've got a column with the values A, B, P, P, P and P
ASC: A B P(1) P(2) P(3) P(4)
DESC (as i want it to be): P(4) P(3) P(2) P(1) B A
DESC (as it sorts):P(1) P(2) P(3) P(4) B A
Is there any property in bindingsource which I can use to change this?

In the following code all goes well until the .Sort line. Then I get an error which says, "The sort method is not valid. Make sure it is within the data you want to sort and the first sort by box isn't the same or blank."I've tried various permutations to deal with this exception, all to no avail. The Range is Selected ok and the Excel data are pasted from the clip board ok. Then I get the error and no sort occurs.

I am using Visual Studio 8 and .net 2 for this project.Project needs to pull and process files from oldest to newest. I used GetFiles to load an array and found it is sorted by name of file. I need to resort the array by date modified. Found several examples on the web and I have tried them all without success. Each with there own set of errors. Below is my latest attempt and the error it yields.

I'm using Visual Studio .Net 2008 on Vista. The goal of my program is to watch a directory, get file information, then sort them by thier date, and produce a updated text file. I can't seem to get my code to generate a list of files sorted by date. The code does produce a general list of files, however presently ordered in the directory. I also tried an alternate way of sorting the files by date by creating a string, removing the date using substring, then comparing the file dates using datetime.parse but it produces a exception error.[code]...

I am using vb.net2010. (express)
I am currently writing a bit of software for myself and need guidance.
I have a datagridview on a form with a date column. (column0)
I am trying to sort this by date desending but it will only sort by the day (dd) and not the whole date (dd/mm/yyyy) which leaves the months and years unsorted.
(example of output):
#1 - 01/03/2012
#2 - 02/01/2010
#3 - 03/02/2011
[Code]....
I have been told " Make sure the Date column is a date type and not a string " which i have taken as the access database column type. I have set this as Date but it still won't sort the column in datagrid view by the whole date.

I am making some kind of calendar where I can add tasks, so I can easily organise my tasks. For it to complete, I have 3 things I can't figure out how to do it:
1. When I launch the program, I want the items in my listbox to be sorted alphabeticly.
2. I want to save the items in the listbox, so if I close the program and reopen it the items are still saved in the listbox.
3. The items in the listbox all start with a date, fe. "13-4" for today. If that date already passed I want that item to be deleted.

I have a page which lists all the files in a particular folder (all PDFs), using a data-table and gridview. I'm currently sorting this table by the filename (by using a dataview), which isn't that helpful, and I want the gridview of files sorted by the file created or file modified date (as recorded in Windows). If that's not possible, a second option would be to extract the date from the file name string (no problem doing that), and sort the dataview/datatable or gridview based on that.

Can anyone tell me why "Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound." I keep getting an error "Invalid Operation Exception was Unhandled" error. All I am attempting to do is allow the user to select products from a list(or a second datagridview) and have it added to the datagridview so they do not have to type in every cell since the other cells are not visible because they do not purtain to their needs. Plus they will be able to save all items at the same time.

I have a datagridview and trying to filter recs based on a Date field. This is the
Dim ds As New AOListingDataSet
Dim da As New AOListingDataSetTableAdapters.CallwithNameTableAdapter
da.Fill(ds.CallwithName)
Dim dv As New DataView(ds.CallwithName)
dg1.DataSource = dv
[Code] .....
It works ok when filter is on other fields but brings empty on 'CallDate' date field. I have declared the 'CallDate' field in db as long date format in Access.

I have a simple query that fills a datatable from an Access DB. There are about 1.7 million records returned, so I would expect it to take a little time. At first, the query was a very simple one, and it took a couple seconds to fill the datatable. However, I really wanted the ability to restrict the rows by a certain date field, which meant a single INNER JOIN to a different table. Having written this, I verified that it was correct by copying the SQL string into the query builder in Access. The query, in Access, took a couple seconds to complete. That was comparable to the time I was seeing before I added in the join.
However, in VB, the query isn't completing at all. After 60 seconds, I get a message about a ContextSwitchDeadlock stating that it hadn't been able to transition or pump messages in a long time. Frankly, since the exact code works fine when I remove the JOIN, this seems like it is either a deadlock internal to the Jet engine, or the error message is an artifact of a very long running query. My question is why a query (albeit a large one) is hanging in the VB program when the exact SQL runs in a couple seconds in the Access query designer, and when I remove the JOIN, the query runs in a couple seconds in VB?

I have an application that receives data input from an automated set of devices. This data stream I have managed to capture & get it into a list box which I can sort based on the Device ID & the time that the response was received. There is a set time window for the devices to transmit their data into the application and during this each device is not limited to the number of responses it can send (ie :- Device 1 can send in 2 responses where Device 3 can send in 40 responses, etc). All of the responses are captured, listed & sorted within the listbox (this bit is working ).I now need to extract the last (ie:- latest) entry in the listbox for each Device ID & this is where I am stuck. I can retrieve the last item in the list but cant seem to extract the last item for each Device ID.[code]
