Jan 11, 2010How would I get a list of the DLLs that a process is using? For example, if a process used "SomeDLL.DLL", would it be possible to find that out using a VB program?

Apr 6, 2010I am trying to understand how to interact with external DLLs written in C++ for use in my VB.NET application. I have some DLLs that a client wrote that do some math functions. Everything was working on a 32-bit machine. Because we were taxing the 32-bit machine we moved to 64-bit. Now we can't get the same functions to work. The DLLs were re-compiled as 64-bit DLLs and they still don't work. So my client wrote some dummy DLLs to see if we could figure out the problem. Here are the "signatures" of the DLL calls that I am making:[code]....Ultimately I would like to get to calling initialize_quiet and I am guessing at the format of the marshalling, const size etc.

Jul 14, 2010I'm using visual studio 2010 and i made some time ago a taskmanager just with some functions useful for me, so i would keep it in my new PC with Windows 7 64 bit, most of it work good because i have compiled it setting "AnyCpu" in the Project property and all work good with 64 bit process, but when i try to list the modules of a 32 bit process it doesn't work, same thing if i set the compiler to "x86" instead of "AnyCpu" in this case it work for 32 bit process but it doesn't work for 64 bit process, i'm using the class process of the framework, but i read that calling The Psapi there is the same problem, so, is there a way to make one version that work for both 32 and 64 Os or is it impossible to list modules of all process in a 64 Os?

Nov 30, 2011I am basically recreating task manager and process explorer to my needs. I am getting the processes as needed for now into the datagridview by using a timer. However, I can't seem to figure out how to "remove" any copies as it constantly re-adds the processes on each timer interval.I basically want to "refresh" the processes in the datagridview, and "update" any information within the rows.[code]

I can block processes from the list using SelectedItem, but it doesn't block all the process in the list.Using while loop causes a deadlock error here. I'm now using aBlock.ReadLine to read from txt file and block the available process. However it is only able to block the first process. Need some guidance to get this code to block all the processes in the list.

Jun 15, 2012I am trying to find out if an instance of an application (not vb.net) is already running - because I will want to start it but I don't want to start it if it is already running. I have found a solution to check if a process is running:
Dim proc As Integer = Process.GetProcessesByName(ProcessName).GetUpperBound(0) + 1
and return True if >=1 (or just the process number). My problem is, this is a third-party application, and its process name is not just a name but it contains a version number (which I may not know at run time), and it also seems to add a *32 (so probably a *64 if it is installed in x64 ?).
I need to get a list of running processes, by name, and test if "processname" is a substring of the name.
But I haven't been successful in getting a list of names, only process id's.

The task is simple: I have a list of 10,000 text files stored in one folder, and I'm trying to read each one, store it as a string variable, then run it through a series of functions, then save the final output to another folder. So far I can only manage to manually input the file path like this (in VB.NET):

May 23, 2012Okay so my program opens excel, reads a few cells, and closes excel. But, it does not fully close excel and after multiple runs, I have multiple EXCEL.EXE *32 in my process list. It also asks for a save when it's closing when there are no changes being made, is there any way to avoid this? And how do you get Excel to fully close?

VS 2008 : Accessing Variables Within A Sub - Updating Process List?
Sep 1, 2009I have a Public Sub I am using to enumerate running processes and then display them in a ListView.I want to be able to update the list automatically each second. I've thought of doing this in two different ways, but the method that I want to use is checking if the process has exited or not.
When reading up on the Process Properties, I ran into .HasExited and .Refresh.I thought that I could use a timer and have it tick at 1 second intervals. I would then check, each second, if the Process has exited. If it has, remove it from the list.The problem with this, is that I don't want to put the sub in the timer because it would just constantly flicker the control. I need to figure out a way to access the variables inside of the Sub while inside of the Timer's .Tick event.The other issue is being able to add processes that aren't there. Which I can within another sub. I was thinking I could create a sub that grabbed the Processes by ID, compare them to the list, and them add them if they aren't there. If I did this, I could also remove Processes by ID that aren't in the list.

Jun 4, 2009I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

May 27, 2011I've seen quite a few questions about calling 32 bit ActiveX components on 64 bit platforms - as I understand it you can't create a 32 bit ActiveX component from a .NET application running in X64 (native) mode. This is OK and I think I understand it.But my question is more basic. Is there such a thing as a 64 bit ActiveX component? or is ActiveX always 32 bit, period?

I followed the instructions that I found on the MSDN websites as well as suggestions from forum participants. The DLL should be available both for COM and .NET programs. So far, nothing has worked.There are numerous variations listed on the MSDN site. No doubt there are reasons for the differing instructions. However, I have not had sufficient success with any of them. Sometimes, just building the project makes the class visible to COM compatible programs. Other times, only after running regasm. Feb 2, 2010You developing a application named "DemoSoft" which is going to be a shareware or Premium, you use different DLL's in this project and some DLL's are owned by you, they are very useful and valuable, you are selling this software and are charging the customer for what the software does but since this software uses one of your Valuable DLL, actually few functions from it you have to deploy it and cannot additionally charge for the whole dll. since that would be unwize.now i want to ask what can you do so that This DLL in "DemoSoft" cannot be exploited, meaning end user could use my software but if some thief tries to use my supplied DLL in one of his own app he is unable to do it, in simple terms DLL should work only and only with DemoSoft.

I have a VB application, if I want to use DLL A Beep(), I should import the DLL A reference, and rebuild my application. If I want to switch to DLL B Beep(), I have to change the DLL reference and then rebuild my applicaton.. The same to do if I do with DLL C.
