But I get an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. exception on the last line of code. If I quickwatch the Location value it is the correct node
I have an XML Document that I write from vb.net to my filesystem successfully.... Now I'd like to have a button that browses for and then opens & imports the data from XML back into a datalistview...I have the open file dialog working, and can read specific 'static' data from the file, but dynamic amounts of data seems to be a bit of trouble.

We have a lot of PDF documents and would like to save information filled in by the user in SQL database and then pre-populate the answers in multiple PDFs for printing. We'd also want user to digitally sign the pdf and store the signature in database. Ideally I'd like to create VB project with form that users would fill in and then information should "flow" into existing PDF. Then later I'd setup some reports based on user-filled information. We probably will purchase Adobe LifeCycle software to use with PDF.
View 13 RepliesIn our web application we would need to export data in a Word document format, the final document will have around 200 pages, which includes some static text and dynamic data coming from the database. We have a stored procedure which will return around 35 tables in a single dataset and this needs to be mapped to the corresponding sections in the final word document. We have tried this by using SSRS 2008 and the report is not rendering because of System Out of Memory issue due to the large size of this document. How can we implement this in a web application using ASP.net and Vb.net.
View 3 RepliesI have a .trx file (a unit test result file) which is just xml inside and I want to read the file compare a few of the tags and change them as necessary and save the file again.
I found that VB.NET has a few tools to help so the first thing I do is load the document into an xml document which seems to work fine but I can't access any of the data I need. Right now I'm trying to access the attributes of the counters tag and change them after rerunning some of the tests.

i know it could sound as a silly question but i was wondering if there's a way to get data from a survey on paper though: i mean, let's say i have a survey on paper with questions and some checkbox that the user will tick and i want to get its data scanning the document and save it as pdf, if it's possible, or jpg or doc, whatever. Then with PHP or whichever language you suggest, try to get the data in some way from the scanned document and put it to a DB.

The loading of xml is no problem i have done that a million times over, the problem seems to be able to fill the treeview with content. My problem is this: I have a treeview with this in it:
-Race
|-HQ
|-TROOP
|-ETC...
now... the program loads all units from xml. so when it encounters for instance a unit with a "<class>" tag containing HQ, how do i make it put it in the HQ node? I cant make it put new nodes into existing ones, only into new ones....

It has been a long time since I have programmed. What I need to find out is how to make my VB 2008 Express Edition program read a text document so that I can alter the text. What I have been doing instead is cutting-and-pasting the whole text into a TextBox by hand and then writing:
t = TextBox1.text
and using mid() to find parts of variable t.I am not sure that this will work though because some of the files are very big (as much as 583 Kb. (I am unsure how much data can be put into a single variable.
I have a vague memory that when I was using VB5 on a similar project years ago, I had to type maybe four lines of code at the beginning that were all lines I just copied from somewhere and that were lines I did not understand.

Very first time I debug the coding I haven't got much problem. But debugging it again gives me an Error AS: "A file named 'Resume.XLW' already exits in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
I was able to see this since I have enabled the display alerts. Disabling it generates a save as window.
I am attempting to write some data from my program to a word document using a template. What I would like to know is how can I duplicate a page in the word document depending on data in the program. To be more specific the user enters product data into the program. Most times it will be only one product however sometimes it will be 2 or 3 products. When it is more than one product I will need to duplicate a page in the word document to enter the second or third product information.

I am new to working with the PrintDocument, but I believe this would be the way to accomplish this. I know how to print the text onto the PrintDocument at a certain position, but what I am trying to figure out is how to deal with the coordinates of the text I am drawing on the PrintDocument. Ideally, I would love to click on the PrintDocument in a PrintPreviewControl and capture the coordinates of the PrintDocument.

We are opening a Word document from our Visual Basic 2010 application using the Word object. When we run our application under Windows Server 2008 the document name is truncated in the main window title for the document. This is not the case when we run our application under Windows XP. Is there a way to prevent this truncation under Windows Server 2008?Mary Leathem
