View 4 RepliesI've a problem using simple logarithm function Log in some ButtonClick Event. Log is underlined with next warning:System.Diagnostics.Log is not accessible in this context because it is Friend.
Have I missed something or this happens because of the Express version of Visual Basic?
I have 36 numbers in sets of 5. (eg. 1-2-3-4-5, 2-3-4-5-6 etc..) I need to find all the possible combinations of these numbers which total the same sum. For instance the lowest sum would be: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15. The highest possible sum is: 32 + 33 + 34 + 35 + 36 = 170. Now every five number combination within these 36 numbers will sum up between 15 and 170. How would I go about this in vb.net to produce all the possible combinations which would total say 92.
View 6 RepliesI am making a calculator that accepts large number (represented as strings) and performs basic math functions on them. So far I have Add and Multiply figured out.
Here is addition
Private Function Add(ByVal Number1 As String, ByVal Number2 As String) As String
Dim num1, num2, r, total As New Integer
Dim sum As String = ""
[Code].....
I saw something like this in the code bank but the examples there were from VB6(?) and were hugely inefficient (compared his Add and Multiply examples to mine, his having way more code and loops.)
Given a string as a form of input (parsed from an input file) which represents a number and a mathematical operator (<, >, <=, >=, !, !=, and a few others), what is a really fastefficient way to chop off that operator, compare it to a list of valid operators, and then set an "operator" variable to a state (i.e., Enum) representing the identified operator, then return just the number (as a string)?I'm open to various ideas and implementations.I've tried several (about 6-7) myself, and find I'm not really satisfied with the speedThe fastest so far is a For Each loop that walks my list of "valid operators", and compares that operator's string representation against the chopped off bit from the numeric string. I determine the amount to chop off by the length of each valid operator in the valid list.
Here's a code example of the fastest implementation. Assume input like <378 and a valid ops list of <, >, !, or >=79 and a valid ops list of <=, >=:
Friend Function FindMatchingOp(ByVal Haystack As String,

how can i code a simple program to generate the maximum number i enter/type within 3 or more numbers using math.max. for example, if i enter 25, 60, 45 how can i use math.max to calculate the largest value out of the 3 numbers?
View 4 Replieswell i am having a couple of issues with this particular homework problem and this is my first programming class so there is probably quite a few mistakes well the homework problem is to take three double values entered by a user and display the largest and smallest using math.max and math.min and display the smallest and largest so i thought i could use a listbox and take the values that went to the listbox and assign variables to each so i can try to use each variable in the math.max and min but im not making it to far and i actually might be way off

View 7 RepliesI am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.
Here is my code Example
CODE:
This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.
CODE:
Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.
CODE:
And do this with variable number 2, 3, 4, 5.
I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.
how to go about populating some text boxes with results from calculations. To be more specific, I'm trying to do some trig to calculate various parts of a ci0rcle and will be populating any two of the text boxes then click on a button to get the missing values. I was thinking along the lines of a loop until all values have been calculated.
View 14 RepliesI have two text boxes on my form. text box 1 allows a user to type in a number (decimal) and text box 2 will display the smallest number typed in so far. The idea is to find the smallest number typed in by the user in text box 1, by using the Math.min method to compare each number typed in by the user to a variable that contains the smallest number to the point. Then replace the variable value with the smaller of the two numbers. To make it work for the first number. I have to initialize the variable to 99999. (no if else statements should be used).

I have a dbase.txt file with some data in it. i.e -
Institution Course StudentID
XZY ABC 2010-1111111 "the spaces between columns is one tab space"
XYZ ABC 2010-1222222
XYZ ABC 2010-1333333
I want to perform simple SQL like operation - i.e -
SELECT * FROM dbase.txt or
SELECT Institution FROM dbase.txt WHERE StudentID=2010-1111111 and an insert operation like -
INSERT dbase.txt VALUES (XYZ ABC 2010-1444444)
I have written some code which is not even closer to what I mentioned above. My program can read only the whole text file. There is a menu, but not functioning well, as well as my write function which is not working at all.
Below is my code -
Imports System.IO
Module Module1
Sub Main()
Dim intInput As Integer
Console.WriteLine("Main Menu")

I'm trying to convert code from Delphi to .Net. I'm stuck on one line:
//Delphi code ss := Copy(ss, Length(ss), 1) + Copy(ss, 1,Length(ss) - 1); 'vb.net code ss = ss.Substring(0, ss.Length - 1) + ss.Substring(1, ss.Length - 1)
Delphi combines the two substrings, while .Net just concatenate them like a copy.
I am working on a scrolling text operation within a VB.net/ASP.net application. However, I am getting an error command from the following two commands:
Me.ScrollingMarquee.InnerHtml
Return Me.ScrollingMarquee.ClientID
The error is that the InnerHtml and ClientID properties are not recognized as members of the class. Apparently I am not using the correct DIM command for "ScrollingMarquee" (e.g. "Dim ScrollingMarquee As Control" is incorrect)).
I am writing my own script for a simple calculator that determines if a number is prime, and its prime factors.[code]The loopcount = compare - 2 means I want the loop to be 2 less than the square root of the answer so that when do a descending calculation (loopcount = loopcount - 1) it doesn't see if 1 or 0 is a factor of the answer. for the calculations after that, I want, every time n1 = n2 (a whole number factor of the answer), I want to report those results to a text file (n2 and n3) in this format "(n2, n3)" then go to the next line. and continue to execute the loop until the loopcount is zero. Currently, when I run the code, the application closes when I click the prime button (button that runs this code) and I don't know why. This is my first semester in school, and have never coded before, so I am a definite laymen with code, but I really really want to learn it (hence why for fun im just creating algorithms for different things).

Using the split command I would just like for

text
to be returned ignoring the numbers. Is this possible?
The text boxes are not accepting numbers. The thing is i already converted the data inside the text box from string to integer.[code]...
