I'm currently in the process of making some sort of copy protection for my software. I was thinking about get the motherboard serial or some other number from the hardware but I cant figure out how to get it.
I have tried a lot of code I found searching Google but none of it works.

I once posted a question on generating a policy number by table ID and user selctions from comboboxes. [URL]FYI . I am doing my project in vb, that why i posted it here. I managed to do that when i choose a region and product from two different comboboxes i generate a number but now my problem is that whenever i click on the comboboxes a policy number is generated before i save the record, so if my previous nummber was 72100002 whenever i click on the product combobox i generate a number e.g if i click on it five times by the time i save the number would be 72100007. I am using a stored procedure for this. Is there another way of doing this or i might end up with my first record as 72100001 and my second record 72100006.

I have an application that is made for a game that you have to draw cards for. So what I have done is created a random number generator that generates a random number and then using case statements that number is associated with a picture of the card, which is displayed in a picture box. This part works fine. Each time I draw a card it is not reshuffled so I need to store the random number generated and then if that number is generated again ignore it an generate a new number.
Now to complicate matters even further when a certain card is drawn the entire deck is reshuffled and everything starts over again. Here is what I tried... I tried using arrays to store the numbers but I cannot seem to get it to search the array for the number or store the number properly within the array. The array has to be dynamic since the game is expandable and I will be adding more cards to the game in the future.

I have a database with 3 or more tables. Each Table have 3 or more columns. In one of tables, named "Persons" i have ID column, Name Column, Date Column etc.I like to select one record (opened with click in new Form Window)for printing and give to the person one or more receipt (bill).Every person take every month one receipt of payment.
But every time i like the number of receipt to be unique. For all persons in my table and all payments.
Every payment need to show somewhere in Form for check if person has pay the months before this month.
The start number format will be 00000000 or 00.000.000 or A000000 and next will be +1.

Where R is the Region i select from a Combobox, P is the product the client chooses and the auto generated six digit number and HH is the hour when the record was entered in the system. View 1 RepliesI am using VB .Net to access the eBay API and store all completed orders in a database. This database is then fed into a proprietary shipping system, which can not handle an order number larger than 20 characters. eBay returns an order number like so 230407279314-680141236013 which is too long. The order number is always 12 numbers a hyphen and 12 more numbers. What I need to do, is turn this (the result can be alpha numerical) into a shorter, unique order key to store in my database alongside the true orderId (so that this can be referenced by the shipping software instead of the actual order number). The reason for the 20 character limit is the barcode algorithm used. Is there any way to achieve this in VB .Net 2010? This number can be anything unique, so long as it does not exist already (even a good uniqueid function would work, but I would have to query the database to make sure it isn't taken)

Unique constraint - these columns currently doesn't have unique values..?? I have created Unique Constraint with 3 columns. My code works perfectly but once - two users @ same time entered same data and somehow it saved in DB; after that incident. This UniqueConstraint gives me error - These columns currently doesn't have unique values. How can I check if user enters this kind of entry or how can I restrict the Entry?

I'm making a sign in/out program using mysql and visual basic and need a little help I have two tables event_in and event_out and under each table I have event_id, which automatically generates a number(starting from 1) for each row. I was wondering if it's possible to generate the numbers based on the users. So let's say User A comes and signin, 1 is generated into the event_id. Then User B comes and signs in. I want 1 generated for him too...so all User A's event_id will be 1,2,3... and each user's event_id for both the in and out table will also be the same.
With this I will be able to subtract each user's timestamp in event_out from that of event_in to get how long they were in. I believe that if I don't generate the numbers separately for each user, then let's say User A signs in (1 is generated for event_id in the event_in table) but does not sign out yet and then User B comes and signs in (he get 2 for the in) but then he signs out before User A does and he gets 1 for the out and user A gets 2 for the out. So now user and with my current query I will not be able to calculate the timestamp.

View 8 RepliesI'm a non developer user of VB. I'm using a simple form to input data to a database. have some text boxes bound to data and use a Binding navigator. I want to be able to handle or catch the error when a non unique ID is added. I have tried to include an error handler in several places but the exception is generated anyway. For example I select to add a new record the change the id to a duplicate value and navigate to the previous record and get the error. I want to check or validate the value before it generates the error to avoid the program crashing if someone includes a duplicate id.

View 1 RepliesI have a database (using Sqlite) that has ID has a primary key with autoinc, that loads the values into a listbox control. If I loop through the database normally, adding the values of the database into my listbox, I can't get the ID by using SelectedIndex because the Index will not always be the same as the ID, and the ID will not always be the Index. :( This makes it painful when I want to query to delete the row, based on SelectedIndex.
I want to delete the row by ID, but I have no way of getting that ID with the loop I use Is there some hidden field type attribute I can use?
