i am trying to create a login form for my project that will take the entered username and password and compare it with records in the database TaxiProjectDatabase, table Users, and either show authentication is successful or it failed.
From following some tutorials i have got:

My problem is that when i click the button to run the code after entering a username and password i get the annoying " object reference not set to an instance of an object" and in the immediate window "A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in Taxi Service Project.exe".

I am currently working with VB.net 2005. I am trying to create a login form and use a text file as a database to login. The part login form is fine but i can't connected to the text file. When i use my coding with a database such as access or mysql is work fine.
For the past couple of days I have been using Visual basic 2008 and learning it.Anyway, I am trying to make a login form that will login to a website with WebBrowser control.and I am noticing that the webbrowser is extremly slow, it takes him about 20 seconds to load a page while mozilla opens it in a moment, why is that?

I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.
I have the lines above to login by database. However, I really don't know why always give me the error: "Incorrect fields". I am 120% sure that all the fields of the table are right, including the text that I put into my textboxs. I have already add a user into the database. I have a code which when used, firstly application will run the Splash Screen application. Splash Screen will be active for several second, and then the main of application will show in full screen. Before the user use the application, user must Log in first. This works but the problem is that it loads the splash and login form twice. To worsen the situation, the second login form that appears gives access to the system even when the cancel button is clicked while the first login form just works fine. I'm sure I'm doing my login process for my app in a not so perfect way, but as with lots of things, it works. The issue is to make it work I have to use the very unpopular DoEvents thing. I would like my application to show a login screen before loading my main form. Currently I have a login dialog box with a FormOpen boolean property and an authenticated boolean property. If a user logs in successfully, I hide the login form, set formopen to false, and authenticated to true. If they cancel out, then I do the same and just set the authenticated property to false. If authenticated=false then I end the app, else I show the main form via application.run(MainForm)

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.
I have used the code from the link below to create a basic login page in front of the Microsoft Live Single Sing On.[url] I managed to combine the two together(LiveSSO w/Forms Authentication) turning off the Integrated Authentication in IIS from the SSO setup.All works as expected if the user successfully authenticates with AD. THE PROBLEM that I am having is that when the user failes to authenticate it only returns: "Error authenticating user. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password". This message appears also when the user is set to change the password at next logon. What I want it to do is to read the error code of exactly why it failed so I can setup a redirect to a password reset page (i.e. if error is "User flag is set to change pswd" etc.etc.)From the page linked above you can see the VB code of LdapAuthentication.vb which does the trick of authenticating the accounts or returning the error message if the login fails. The part that returns the "Error authenticating user. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." Is handled by this subroutine:

I'm trying to build my first program and I've run into a few problems with SQL. I have a database with customers and employees (among other things) and I'm trying to set up a basic login screen. Users log in with their EmployeeID (primary key) This part deals with logging in for the first time. It checks the database for a user with that ID and grabs the password. If the password is not empty / null, it shows a message box and stops there. If the password is empty/null it is meant to confirm and then update the new password. This is where my understanding ends. Debugging shows the error is definitely in the SQL update, but I can't see any errors...
