I can get the value of the first cell of the first row of the first column. But I have to get the value of the first cell of the the first column of the any row index I click.
how do I get the Header text of the header the user clicked in the datagridview.I know I have to use the column header click event but I can't work out or find away to extract the clicked header data?

View 1 RepliesIt seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

I am currently working on my own listview control, and I was wondering if it was possible to get it to not draw the text for the listviewitem when the listview is in report mode? What I have been doing is putting all of my information in the tag and leaving the text property blank so it doesn't paint. Andis there a way to paint the background of the column headers? View 3 RepliesI have a windows application with many forms. We use the DataGridView control on most of the forms, but on a new form that I designed I have four DataGridViews. All of the DataGridViews on this form do not dipaly the Column Header Text when the form is displayed when running in the IDE. I do not receive any errors or messages. The other DataGridVeiws on other forms display their column header text just fine. I am at a loss as to why this is happining on this form.
UPDATE: If I add the desired text to the column.HeaderText property at the end of the form load event it displays the column header text. For example AssignedAmountColumn.HeaderText = "Amount" it displays Amount in the column when run from the IDE.... However it dosn't display when the property is set though the Columns property at design time.
Looking at deleting columns in excel and have found several threads that show how to delete an entire column which I have tested and done successfully. These columns were all identified by "A", "B", "C" and so on...
I was wondering if it was possible to do the same thing using the column headers. When deleting the columns in excel, one has to keep in mind that columns deleted from the left will shift the entire sheet to the left and if one is not careful, the next column[code]...
Let's say a user wants to delete the 'Middle' column (assume as column B in excel) and then delete the 'Suffix' column (assums as column D in excel). If they don't know to work from right to left when deleting columns, they would write code that would delete Column B and then repeat that code for Column D. However, once column B is deleted, all columns will shift left, which will result in the 'Phone' column (formerly column E now column D) being deleted instead of the 'Suffix' column (formerly column D now column C).
If there was a way to delete the columns by their headers (i.e. Middle, Suffix...) this would eliminate the problem; to me it seems a bit more intuitive as well.
I have a DGV that is populated at run time from a db query. One of the columns is sorted ascending and the column header for this column displays the little "up arrow" thing to signify it is sorted. I do not want the user to be able to click this (or any other column header) in this datagridview.
How can I maintain the column's visibility but disable the click function?

I have downloaded the VBWinFormDataGridView from the code framework, and implemented the code in to a project the only problem i have found is when i refresh or reload the information in to the column headers it increases the size and keeps doing this so the column headers take up the full form height.i understand that the coumn header height needs to be reset but unsure how to do this. Adding the following code will get my Information Icon (bitmap) to display in each of the column cells but NOT the column header:

Also, it is worth noting that the image displays 'perfectly' in the cells i.e. it is sized correctly to fit the cell.
However, I cannot find a way to add the same image to the column header cell. After some googling I used the following code which placed the image in the header cell but left me with two problems:
The image did not 'auto-size' to the column headercell in the same way it did when added to the column cells. The image was slightly larger and blurred.
By using the _CellPainting event slowed down performance i.e. when hovering over the DataGridView to highlight the selected row the highlighting lagged behind where my mouse was placed.

I want to set header column width for grid view. I tried HeaderStyle-Width="30px". But it is depending on Item columns. The column width is setting based on item value. But I want fixed width even if it has value or empty.

How can I determine if the user clicked on a cell in the grid, or on the column header? In both cases the CellDoubleClick Handler is called. I want to handle only the first case.
