Gridview With Different Template Per Datasource?

Sep 3, 2010

I have a gridview that I would like to be able to bind to several sqldatasources, but still use template fields. Each datasource is different and would have different columns so I'm not sure how to go about this. Is it possible to define a set of template fields or overlying template per datasource?

Asp.net - Capture The Value Of A Gridview Template Field?

Mar 1, 2012

In the RowDataBound event of an ASP.NET Gridview I am trying to read the value of a Label in a Template Field. I would prefer to capture this value in the RowUpdating Event, but for some reason I seem to recall that it is not possible. Here is the ASP...

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Translation" ItemStyle-Width="250" >
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label11" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("lang_String") %>' Width="250px"></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>

Here is the VB.net code that I am trying to figure out....

Protected Sub GridView1_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowDataBound
If (e.Row.RowState And DataControlRowState.Edit) > 0 Then

Asp.net - Dynamically Populating A DropDown Template Control In A Gridview?

May 3, 2012

I have a GRIDVIEW with columns, one of which contains a CSV of possible values for the dropdown that must appear on each row.

Private Sub GridViewParameters_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles GridViewParameters.RowDataBound
If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then[code].....

Depending on whether the type of control is a dropdown, textbox, or check box (feined in the table) it hides or shows the relevant control type. If it is a dropdown it needs to get its values from a CSV in a corresponding column. I have a SP that returns a these in table form if passed the id of the relevant row.How do I get that is from the gridview to pass to the drop down and load it correctly?

Asp.net - Which Gridview Event To Use To Add Items To The Dropdownlist Used In The Edit Template

Oct 7, 2010

I would like to show different values in a dropdownlist, while editing a gridview, depending on which user is logged in. For example...

The officer would see "Approved by Officer" status.
The director would see "Approved by Director" status

I am trying to add these programatically to a dropdownlist which I have in the edit template of my gridview (approvalsGrid). Here is my code:

Protected Sub ApprovalsGrid_RowUpdating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewUpdateEventArgs) Handles ApprovalsGrid.RowUpdating
Dim ApprovalEditDD As DropDownList = CType(ApprovalsGrid.Rows(ApprovalsGrid.EditIndex).FindControl("ApprovalEdit"), DropDownList)

[code]....

I do not get any errors. But get an empty dropdown with no items. Am I using the correct event?

Dropdownlist Invalid Error Edititem Template Gridview

Sep 15, 2011

Error Dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value I have been banging my head over this error for about a week now. I have searched posted on other forums and still no solution to my issue. I have seen the FindControl being suggested but do not know how to implement this.

Basically I have 2 webmethods that reference 2 datasets which then populate my ajax cascading dropdownlist. In insertmode they work great however in editmode i get the above error.I have removed the selectedvalue and added

DataSource='<%# Bind("intRoom") which works sort of except for the fact that when you click edit it does not retain the original value of that particular record. Other things i have tried are as following:adding the items to the itemcollection of the dropdownlist turning appenddataitems to true on also tried to use the findcontrol but dont understand that punching my monitor and slamming my keyboard

Now I know i could get this to work by using a sqldatasource with some t-sql to get my dropdownlist to work however I thought by reusing my webmethods my code would be more professional. So if there is anyone out there that can help me understand why the value for my dropdownlist is not being populated or does not exist during gridview editing Also will post code if asked not sure what you would like to see rather than posting everything.

ASP.net: Gridview Datasource Caching ?

Sep 16, 2010

I currently have a control that called MyGridview that inherits Gridview. It has a paging template within it for customized paging options, and I'm at the point where I want to cache the initial datasource for better performance.I haven't done this in a long time, so perhaps there is a different solution these days with the newer frameworks.Before, I simply used a Cache object that was named whatever the gridview was named. I couldn't use the same gridview name through the application though.Is there a best way to have a cache object, or some other object like a session within the control to store those unique datasets for paging and sorting?

ASP.NET Databind GridView To Datasource Comes Up Empty?

Aug 4, 2011

I have a GridView on an ASP.NET page that I'm trying to bind to an object data source that I've set up to map to a vb object I made which accesses the DB. When I run the page, though, the gridview comes up empty.

The ObjectDataSource is definitely returning data. The paging parameters are making it to the underlying object. All the way until I get to the DataBind() call everything seems fine. But the grid comes up empty. Funny thing is, if I use the method that returns all records in the DB, the grid populates just fine. Only when I try to implement custom paging does display no records. I've tried using the wizards, I've tried diagrammatically setting it up and run time. No matter what I do I can't get paged data to display in the grid.

oDatasource = New ObjectDataSource()
oDatasource.EnablePaging = True
oDatasource.TypeName = "tblMessage"
oDatasource.SelectMethod = "GetTblMessageSubset"

[code]....

Assigning A Datasource To A Gridview Dynamically In The Codebehind?

Jul 10, 2010

I am stuck at a task. What I want is, I am creating a table in the database on the fly in the code behind using the below code(in VB).Now my main problem is I want to display this table which is created in step 2 of a wizard, in step 3 using a GRIDVIEW. But as we all know a GridView needs a sqldatasource for values to be displayed, however what I need for achieving this is dynamically assign a datasource to the GridView, but I am not figuring out HOW?

Dim NewTable As String
Dim FullName2 As String = "Dynamic" + "_" + lblCompanyName.Text + "_" + tbCustomerFileName.Text
'Get Row Headers and map to Fields

Populate GridView Control From A Linq To SQL DataSource?

Jul 22, 2009

If I used a generic list Class to hold data objects that I am pulling from SQL Server using Linq to sql to populate a datagridview would I need to make any modifications to the datagridview control to accomodate multiple columns or would I need to make any modifications to the generic list class to accomodate the multiple columns in a row that is typical of a record in SQL Server? And one more thing which I believe is the easy part. To bind the list to a datagrid view would I just use the datasource property of the datagridview control.

C# - Using Types In A T4 Template That Exist In The Same Project As The Template?

Aug 4, 2010

I'm working on my first T4 code generation tool to add some Stored Procedure helper code to my project. I've created custom types (e.g. StoredProcedure and StoredProcedureParameter to help with my code generation and have included the assembly and namespace references in my code:

<#@ template debug="false" hostspecific="false" language="VB" #>
<#@ output extension=".generated.vb" #>
<#@ assembly name="$(TargetPath)" #>
<#@ import namespace="StoredProcCodeGenerator" #>

This allows me to use my custom types in my T4 template code. However, because my custom types exist in the same project as the T4 template code, I can't recompile my project once I run the template code without restarting Visual Studio. This isn't very much fun.

I read a great article that addresses this exact issue by using the T4 Toolbox, but it's not working. Either I'm implementing the VolatileAssembly directive wrong or the T4 toolbox simply didn't get installed. I'm not sure that the toolbox got installed correctly (I'm using VS 2010 on Win XP).

Best Way To Print A Template

Mar 22, 2011

I have been working on a inventory management system for a friend of mine. It has to be able to keep track of incoming and outgoing stock from his business.

I have already got all the programing done, working great! But now it has got to the stage, that I need the program to print out invoices from the program. I have the program extract certain records from an attached database, and will most probably pass them into a variable in the function.

NOW... I have a template of the tax invoice page setup in MS word. I was going to make a macro in word that will automatically fill in all the "static" information, but I was wondering if passing the variables from the main program into the word macro is: 1. possible and 2. the best way of doing this.

I am still a noob when it comes to VB so please excuse the next question, but is there a way to set up a page to be printed including tables, logo, different font styles.. etc within the VB program?
