Show Yes/no In Bool Column Of Gridview Bound To Datasource In Winforms?
Mar 15, 2010
I have a gridview that is bound to a datasource (Windows Forms, VB.NET). One of columns is a property of type boolean, and I want to show "yes/no" in the column instead of 0/1 or "true/false". Is this possible? Can you edit displays of columns that are bound?

I have a gridview that is bound to a datasource on a Windows Form (VB.NET). The grid displays a list of "certifications", and each "certification" can be associated with many languages. So in the grid, I'd like to display "languages" as a column, and display a comma delimited list of the language names for each "certification".
In the "certification" class, one of the properties is a list of "language" objects, and each "language" has an ID (guid), name (string), and value (integer).
So in the datasource, I have the list of "languages", but I can't figure out how to display them in a column on the grid. The gridview won't let me add the language list property as a column.
So is the ONLY way to add a new property on the "certification" class, which returns a string that contains the comma delimited list, and show THAT on the grid? Or is there a way to display that list of "languages"?

I have a GridView control which I am dynamically binding to a DataTable which is populated by a query built based on a set of selected options.What I am trying to do is simply handle the RowDataBound event in order to format specific rows based on the value of a database field. The code in this event handler works fine. My problem is, calling this event causes the GridView to only display the first record in the DataTable, almost as if the Gridview stops after binding to the DataTable after the first row is bound. I have attempted adding the handler dynamically, but I get the same results.I know for a fact that there is sufficient data being returned (the DataTable fills with all of the records, and the GridView shows all the records fine when not touching the RowDataBound event).
I'm adding the handler immediately after generating the query, filling the DataTable, and binding the GridView: [code]I have also determined that, when handling RowDataBound, the GridView's DATABOUND event never gets fired; it seems to stop binding right after binding the first row.

I had a DataGridView that was bound to a Table in my typed DataSet. I recentyl added a new column to the table in the database and updated the table in the DataSet accordingly.Now, when I go to the DataGridView to update it, the new column does not appear under the "Databound column" list. I tried setting the data source to "None", then reselecting it. Still, it does not show the new column. I then deleted the DataGridView and re-added it to the form. Again, same result. However, when I select the data source, then click "Preview Data", it show the added column.

In the code behind I have a function that returns a List(Of SomeClass):
rptRepeater.DataSource = SomeFunction(SomeVariable)
rptRepeater.DataBind()
In the html I have a basic repeater layout and am using the below code to get the Properties of each object returned.
<%#Databinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Parameter1")%>
My question is, would there ever be a case that it would execute the Function more than once?

Appropriate Title would be: Bind comboBox Tag to database.I have a comboBox on form which is bounded but and I need to populate it manually. With some reading on net i have found a way but it is not working
I can populate my combo, select item in combo, update database but the problem is when I load my form it displays empty combo (combo is fulled with my custom data but nothing is selected it must select correct ItemText) and after selecting a value in combo, the value disappears as soon as combo losses focus .

I created a Data Source with VB.NET and Visual Studio 2005. I dragged the data source onto my dialog, and VS created the text boxes with the members of my linked Object, a System.Windows.Forms.BindingSource and a System.Windows.Forms.BindingNavigator.
I populate the List (called myList), set myList as the DataSource in the BindingSource, and things work peachy except for the fact that I want this to be read-only. If the user changes something in one of the text boxes, it saves the changes.I tried creating a read-only collection to bind to the BindingSource, but that didn't solve the problem:
[Code]...
I guess I could disable all of the text boxes, but that seems a bit heavy-handed, plus I'd probably want to change the font color so that it's easier to read. Ideally, I probably wouldn't care if users were able to set focus to the text boxes, or even edit the contents, but I just wouldn't want any changes to persist. That is, if someone edited something, used the navigator to go to the next record, and then returned, I'd want it as it was before the user played with it.

I have a DataGridView to which I've set a list of objects to the DataSource. (I'm in VS 2005 using VB.) I created the DataGridView by creating a Data Source of type AssetIdentifier and dragging that Data Source onto my form. I want to update the DataGridView when the selection in either a combo box or another DataGridView changes. (Below I'm considering a click in another DataGridView.)
The following works:
Public Class dlgShowAssets
' class member variable
Private assetIdList As List(Of AssetIdentifier)
' pertinent subs and functions
Private Sub RefreshAssetIdentifierDataGridView()
[Code] .....
In this case, I always knew that assetIdList would have at least one element. I'd update the list, and reset the data source of the DataGridView to that list, and all was well. When I applied this to another situation, for which I couldn't guarantee that the list would have at least one element, things would work fine as long as I had at least one element in the list, but if the list became empty, the DataGridView threw System.IndexOutOfRangeException a number of times.
The rows in the DataGridView would not go away if I went from a non-zero number of elements to zero. I tried a workaround, which was to remove all of the elements, add one "dummy" element, and then re-bind the list to the control and it still didn't work. Also, following all of those exceptions, I'd get other similar exceptions when I hovered over the cells in the DataGridView. Some of the members of AssetIdentifier were "Nothing" but I fixed that in the constructor, and the exceptions still occur.

My form closes whenever I insert an object that has a data bound in it. The object I'm trying to insert is a textbox from the data source window (drag n drop). I've checked on the database and that the table has records in it.

I have a datagrid that I am unable to change the width setting, it always reverts back to the original setting.
To change this setting:
1. select the datagrid view tasks
2. Edit columns bound column properties
3. Select Width property
4. Width property will always revert back to the original setting.
I have check the properties settings without any luck.

I am working with two seperate SQL statements when user conducts a search on my winforms app.A user can search based on an OrderNumber, OrderDate, ClaimNumber, ClaimDate, CustomerID, CustomerPhone One SQL statement returns the OrderNumber (in case the user searched based on OrderDate), which is used to execute another SQL statement, which returns the details about the order.
The results are populated in a gridview.Once the first statement is executed, I have a DataSource (DataSet). How can I append that datasource to display the fields from the second statement as well, keeping in mind, that the first statement could return multiple records, all of which will need to have the appropriate order details correctly linked.

Check out the simple code below :

What happens is that when the Item2 is selected in the first listbox, the second listbox automatically changes its selected item to the Item2. This happens just the same with the other listbox.

Let me try to describe my problems in the simplest way: I have combobox1 and combobox2. I hope to achieve two things: Combox1 is bound to list1 (a list of string). When a user selects an item in list1, list2 (a list of string) will be obtained from database and combobox is bound to list2.If user specifies text1 in combobox1 and text2 in combobox2, then these two values will be shown in the comboboxes regardless of the bound lists.
[Code]...
So the results of above code is that goal 1 is achieved, but goal 2 is never achieved. combobox1.selected index is always 0 and combobox2.selected index is always 0 too.

I've been able to add my own non-bound columns to a DATAGRIDVIEW - such as a check box column.But I'm not seeing how to take a bound column and make that column be a combobox. Doesn't appear to allow that.Do I have to hide the real column and add a "fake" front-end column that I make a combobox?

I have an RDLC report that I am rendering directly to the Response Stream as PDF (rather than using the ReportViewer). In the code that renders the report, it's DataSource is bound to a List(Of ClassA) objects defined in a custom assembly. This seems to work for the most part. My problem is that I can't seem to handle the situation where a nested object is null. For example, given ClassA and ClassB (the nested object) defined as follows:
Public Class ClassA
Public Id As Integer
Public Name As String
[Code]....
the report displays "#Error" if TheNestedObject is null. If TheNestedObject is not null, it correctly displays the Name.

I currently have a control that called MyGridview that inherits Gridview. It has a paging template within it for customized paging options, and I'm at the point where I want to cache the initial datasource for better performance.I haven't done this in a long time, so perhaps there is a different solution these days with the newer frameworks.Before, I simply used a Cache object that was named whatever the gridview was named. I couldn't use the same gridview name through the application though.Is there a best way to have a cache object, or some other object like a session within the control to store those unique datasets for paging and sorting?

I have a gridview that I would like to be able to bind to several sqldatasources, but still use template fields. Each datasource is different and would have different columns so I'm not sure how to go about this. Is it possible to define a set of template fields or overlying template per datasource?

I have a custom control with a bindable property:-
Private _Value As Object
<Bindable(True), ... > _
Public Property Value() As Object
Get
[code]....
Also, here, I'm adding a handler to the DataBindings.CollectionChanged event.This is the second place that I retrieve the type:-
Private Sub DataBindings_CollectionChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CollectionChangeEventArgs)
If e.Action = CollectionChangeAction.Add Then
Dim b As Binding = DirectCast(e.Element, Binding)
[code]....
I need the first place, because the BindingContextChanged event is not fired until some time after InitializeComponent.The second place is needed if the binding field is programatically changed.Am I handling the correct events here, or is there a cleaner way to do it?
Note: My GetValueType method uses the CurrencyManager.GetItemProperties....etc, to retrieve the type.

gridview.Databind()

I have a GridView on an ASP.NET page that I'm trying to bind to an object data source that I've set up to map to a vb object I made which accesses the DB. When I run the page, though, the gridview comes up empty.
The ObjectDataSource is definitely returning data. The paging parameters are making it to the underlying object. All the way until I get to the DataBind() call everything seems fine. But the grid comes up empty. Funny thing is, if I use the method that returns all records in the DB, the grid populates just fine. Only when I try to implement custom paging does display no records. I've tried using the wizards, I've tried diagrammatically setting it up and run time. No matter what I do I can't get paged data to display in the grid.
oDatasource = New ObjectDataSource()
oDatasource.EnablePaging = True
oDatasource.TypeName = "tblMessage"
oDatasource.SelectMethod = "GetTblMessageSubset"
[code]....

Suppose a click event is fired and a particular gridview datasource is set in the code behind page by retrieving a data table from a business logic class.
So programmatically speaking, what is the main difference between the two set of code listed below.

I guess my main question is, what is the purpose of creating a new instance of an object in the above scenario?

I have tried to set up combo boxes in the gridview but all the combo boxes have the same value in them instead of the value from the database. I am using entity framework and WPF. There is a parent child relationship between two tables but the source for the combo box is a separate table with names and IDs for tags. I have been looking all day. Hopefully this won't be too easy to solve.
The "Tag" Column displays the combo box. The Column "Tag ID" displays the value from the database. When I display the data the TagID Changes in diffrent rows but the Tag column is the same (the first choice) in all the rows. When I change one combo box they all change. I can't see where they are hooked together.
Here is the XAML
<Window x:Class="MainWindow"
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
Title="MainWindow" Height="372" Width="675" mc:Ignorable="d"

I have a gridview in asp.net/vb and it is bound to a list - so there's no standard sorting available. I've found this jQuery plugin for sorting tables: [URL]. The plugin requires <thead> and <tbody>. The problem is, that my gridview only renders the <tbody>.
I've already tried
DataList.UseAccessibleHeader = True
DataList.HeaderRow.TableSection = TableRowSection.TableHeader
But this changes nothing.
My gridview markup:
<asp:GridView runat="server" CssClass="grid" ID="DataList" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AllowSorting="True" ClientIDMode ="Static">
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField HeaderText="SomeHeaderText" DataField="SomeDataField" />
<asp:BoundField HeaderText="SomeHeaderText" DataField="SomeDataField" DataFormatString="{0:dd.MM.yyyy}" />

I am stuck at a task. What I want is, I am creating a table in the database on the fly in the code behind using the below code(in VB).Now my main problem is I want to display this table which is created in step 2 of a wizard, in step 3 using a GRIDVIEW. But as we all know a GridView needs a sqldatasource for values to be displayed, however what I need for achieving this is dynamically assign a datasource to the GridView, but I am not figuring out HOW?
Dim NewTable As String
Dim FullName2 As String = "Dynamic" + "_" + lblCompanyName.Text + "_" + tbCustomerFileName.Text
'Get Row Headers and map to Fields
readerXML.ReadHeaders()
[code].....

If I used a generic list Class to hold data objects that I am pulling from SQL Server using Linq to sql to populate a datagridview would I need to make any modifications to the datagridview control to accomodate multiple columns or would I need to make any modifications to the generic list class to accomodate the multiple columns in a row that is typical of a record in SQL Server? And one more thing which I believe is the easy part. To bind the list to a datagrid view would I just use the datasource property of the datagridview control.

I am creating a simple website using the language of VB.NET, I am having trouble with one part at the moment and could really use some help.
At the moment I have items that are stored in a database, when the homepage loads these items are added to a Gridview which allows the user to select the items they wish to add to their shopping cart. Once an item is selected from the gridview it is added to a collection. That collection is then added to a Session. This is the code I have for completing that task.[code]...
