Make ControlLibrary User Control Hide()

Oct 6, 2011

I've spent three days trying to get a user control to do some obvious things -- show, hide, and focus among other things. Done in vBASIC in Visual Studio 2010 Pro. The calling program is a Windows Forms Application, while the user control is a WPF Custom Control Library with a single object, a textbox. The reason it's a user control is that this textbox is connected to an async serial device; the reason it's in a Custom Control Library is that I'd like to be able to drop this functioning serial-port-connected textbox into future projects.

No matter what syntax I attempt, the user control (neither the control nor the text box inside it) will Hide(). I've tried every variation I can think of with control.Visible = false, exposing public subs to do the work, etc. When the form appears and characters are typed in the field, the KeyPress routine is functioning -- it will only accept numeric digits.

Here's the vastly reduced code to illustrate the problem:

Calling Windows Forms Application
Imports DTRFormsControlLibrary2
Public Class Form1

[Code]...

In spite of the call to sbControl.Hide(), the form opens with a very visible and enabled user control text box. The ability to control visibility, focus, and enable/disable seems fundamental to any control.

tabControl1.TabPages.Remove(...) and
tabControl1.TabPages.Add(...)

It adds and removes the tabpages but doing so will loose my controls on tabpages too... i can't see them back.

Silverlight: Hide Objects/user Controls Within Wrappanel?

Mar 5, 2012

I've got a WrapPanel which will contain several different custom UserControls. Depending on the scenario, I may need to filter down which UserControls are visible. My goal is that I can switch which controls are visible on the fly by showing/hiding the controls that need to be filtered - thus shifting the controls that are left showing, to the top-left of the panel.

Right now I am simply setting the Visibility property of the control to Visibility.Collapsed when I don't want them to appear. I thought that because I was using a WrapPanel, the rest of the controls would shift to the top-left of the panel.Instead, after hiding some of the UserControls, the controls that are still visible stay exactly where they were before, and I am left with gaps between the controls that are still showing. I've opened my app in Silverlight Spy, and it shows that the UserControls are still actually there (which makes sense) but are simply invisible.

So my question is: Is there a way that I can show/hide UserControls within a WrapPanel which allows the still-visible UserControls to slide to their new positions (all shifting towards the top left - similar to a StackPanel)?

I've debated removing the UserControls completely from the WrapPanel (I think this would work) and storing them in memory until they are needed. Then if I wanted to show/hide other controls, I would get them from my in-memory object. It seems like there should be a better way to do this though.

UPDATE:

XAML: (very simple)
<toolkit:WrapPanel x:Name="MyLayout" Height="300" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="400" />
Code-Behind: The UserControls are getting added dynamically:
MyLayout.Children.Add(oUserControl)

And they are getting set to collapsed dynamically as well:

oUserControl.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed

Asp.net - Hide Button When The Page Loads Until The User Selects Item 1 Or 2 ?

Apr 18, 2012

I have a simple web for that has a dropdown list and a button on the form.The dropdown list is bound to a table in my database and holds three values with idents between 1 and 3 (Weekly,Monthly, Please Select).I have set my datasource to pull back item 3 (Please Select) as the first item in the dropdown list to prompt the user to select an option. Items 1 & 2 have data assigned to them and this pulls back the relevent data for these options.

Here is my problem. I need to hide my button when the page loads until the user selects item 1 or 2 and would like the button to be hidden of option 3 is selected. I have tried to complete this in my page load event and the code for the dropdown list but i cannot seem to get this to work.

If IsNumeric(DropDownList1.SelectedValue) = 3 Then
btnAddAgendaTemplate.Visible = False
End If

Directory Searcher And User Permissions ?

Feb 9, 2011

I've developed a Windows Form application that contains a function where a user will query AD using a users last name in an attempt to get a list of all domain users that contain all or part of the last name. This function works well if the user is an administrator, however in some cases a department manager, who only exist in the Domain User AD group, needs to use this function. When the user with only Domain User rights uses the function all queries come back empty. I can take the same application to another domain and user with just Domain User rights can use the function just fine.

I assume that the first domain that I mentioned might be using Group Policy to prevent Domain Users from making a query against AD.

Is it truly a Group Policy or some other setting within the domain that prevents this?

The current administrator of the first domain I spoke of is fairly new and has no idea of the workings of AD or Group Policy. All domains that I mentioned here I believe are running Windows 2003 Domains.

Load User Controls From A Directory?

This is an odd question but can I load custom controls from a directory? The entire interface is a panel that contains a user control. Initial installation is a bit involved so after the first install, I would like to use clickOnce to deploy updates by just supplying new user controls.

Add User In Active Directory Around 30 Characters In Length?

Dec 16, 2011

I am using windows 2008 R2 Server and trying to Add a user in active directory .

I am able to save user ID of length less than 20 Characters.But when I am trying to increase this value to 30 characters then I am getting the error.

"System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007001F): A device attached to the system is not functioning. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001F)"

This error when I searched on net give me various links saying that:

(a)verify if the issue is caused by the length of sAMAccountName

(b)The document of SAM-Account-Name also indicates that the length of it should be less than 20 characters.

I am using the code below to add user in Active Directory

ASP.Net (IIS 7.5) Querying Active Directory Without User Credentials?

Dec 20, 2011

I have multiple web applications that I've built for our intranet. I wanted to allow users to not worry about logging in, so these apps pull the currently logged on user when they hit the site. I used this code for this to happen:

Dim userName As String = User.Identity.Name
CurrentUser = userName.Substring(userName.IndexOf("") + 1)

This works like a charm, no issues here. The next step is to query Active Directory for that logged in user to pull various information. How I currently have it coded, it works like a charm on the devleopment side (typical because I'm not running IIS).The problem becomes when I publish it to my IIS server (Windows Server 2008 R2 running IIS 7.5), I get error messages that point to the specific line in my code that queries Active Directory. The interesting part is these apps were working great last week. They broke after my server admin did the latest batch of Windows Updates (please note, I am running them using .Net Framework 4.0)Before I had each app setup so that Windows Authentication was Enabled, the other Authentication types were disabled. For providers, Negotiate is #1, NTLM is #2. For Advanced Settings, Extended Protection = Off, and Enable Kernel-mode authentication is checked.

[code]...

In doing this I also removed the string that was higher up in my web.config section. This did not work either (fyi, this was a great reference[url]I then tripped across this article: [url] which seemed to be a similar situation. This article eventually referenced "Double Hops", after looking into this and trying a few things, this didn't solve my issue either.Next StepI am going to try a new IIS 7.5 implementation on a different Server 2008 R2 system and essentially start from scratch, to see if the problem recreates or not.

GetWindowsDirectory Does Not Return User's Home Directory In TS?

Oct 14, 2009

We have a desktop application that is under maintenance,developed using VB.Net 2005. There are couple of installations for this app. One of the users is using TS. We use the API GetWindowsDirectory that returns the user's home directory where we place .ini file. And this worked well.Recently, we modifed few vb.net forms. But the code related to looking for .ini file was not touched. When we compiled the app and sent the update to the client, the user now reports that under TS,the app is looking for .ini file shared windows i.e. C:windows rather than the user's home directory. What can go wrong? Why is GetWindowsDirectory not returning me the user's home directory?
