View 4 RepliesHow do you hide a user control when a button is clicked? I know how to hide a form but not a control. If it is possible to actually remove the usercontrol from the panel that would be awesome to and then have it show again once I click the other Icon. [cod]e...
View 39 RepliesI've spent three days trying to get a user control to do some obvious things -- show, hide, and focus among other things. Done in vBASIC in Visual Studio 2010 Pro. The calling program is a Windows Forms Application, while the user control is a WPF Custom Control Library with a single object, a textbox. The reason it's a user control is that this textbox is connected to an async serial device; the reason it's in a Custom Control Library is that I'd like to be able to drop this functioning serial-port-connected textbox into future projects.
No matter what syntax I attempt, the user control (neither the control nor the text box inside it) will Hide(). I've tried every variation I can think of with control.Visible = false, exposing public subs to do the work, etc. When the form appears and characters are typed in the field, the KeyPress routine is functioning -- it will only accept numeric digits.
Here's the vastly reduced code to illustrate the problem:
Calling Windows Forms Application
Imports DTRFormsControlLibrary2
Public Class Form1

In spite of the call to sbControl.Hide(), the form opens with a very visible and enabled user control text box. The ability to control visibility, focus, and enable/disable seems fundamental to any control.

I am developing an app which has a TabControl and Several TabPages. However when I switch the taps to be dislayed on the side I am left with a large amount of empty space. I am unable to move the TabPage to remove the empty space.
View 1 RepliesI try to remove empty space from a large string, using replace(), and using regex.
the replace method:
replace
Do While (stripped.IndexOf(Space(2)) >= 0)
stripped = stripped.Replace(Space(2), " ")
Loop
and with regex using its replace with : "/ss+/" - regular expression.
but I am still stuck with empty strings such as :
temp ""String
these string have lengths ranging between 3 and 8, so I have tried to adapt the replace function with something like this:
replace 2
Do While (stripped.IndexOf(Space(4)) >= 0)
stripped = stripped.Replace(Space(4), Space(1))
Loop

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to build a list that will be used as the in clause of a select statement. The requirement is to have the user enter a comma separated list of descriptions. Each description can contain spaces so I can't remove the spaces before splitting by comma to add the single quotes around each description. I want to remove all white space after a single quote since no description will start with a space. What's the best way to do this in VB.NET? Regular expression or a string function? Here's what I have so far.

View 1 RepliesI am wondering if anyone has any idea how to make the controls stack and fill up the available space left by a control if the control is hidden or removed from the UltraGridBagLayoutPanel.
Example:
[Textbox 1]
[Textbox 2]
[Textbox 3]
[Textbox 4]
[Textbox 5]
If I hide [Textbox 3] as of now, it will disperse the space left equally and pad the remaining text boxes with the space. However, I would like it to do this...
[Textbox 1]
[Textbox 2]
[Textbox 4]
[Textbox 5]
Where all the text boxes will move up and [Textbox 4] will completely consume the space left by [Textbox 3].
I'm having trouble working with the Solution Explorer in VB.Net 2010. To start, I am clicking New Project > Windows Forms Application. Initially, in the Solution Explorer, there are 2 files listed: My Project and Form1.vb.
When I double-click My Project and select Resources, Add Resource, Add Existing File and select a text file that I've added to the BinDebug folder of this project, the Solution explorer is updated to include the Bin folder reference. However, if I later remove the reference, the folder remains visible in the Solution Explorer. The Show All Files button does not hide the reference again.
Is this something to be concerned about? Is there a way to remove/hide the Bin reference from the Solution Explorer since it no longer contains my resource?
Until recently my reports working ok, only after I convert it to vs 2008 all my reports not display in proper manner or shown error.The most noticeable is previously to hide the Pageview control in crystalreportviewer can be done easily. After this conversion all the codes failed me :(Another error is Invalid Pointer or Invalid Parameter. All report was working fine in VS.2003
View 1 RepliesHow would i get a certain text inside a textbox to equal that text space to space or null to space?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If Textbox1.Text.StartsWith(Textbox2.Text + " ") And Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(Textbox2.Text) Then
Textbox1.Text = Textbox1.Text.Remove(0, Textbox2.TextLength)
Textbox3.AppendText("a")
End If
Btw: after i finish this step my project will be finished!
My program requires the reading and writing to a file that is shared among all users of a system. Currently I keep this file (an XML configuration file) in the directory that my application is installed to, which is C:Program FilesSomething by default. On Windows 7 (and probably XP too, but I haven't checked), regular users cannot write to this file. While I could probably set permissions as needed in my installation program, I'd rather find a more appropriate place for this file.All users need to read and write to it. Doing some Googling turns up C:ProgramData for Windows 7, but XP doesn't create this folder. Is there a common place on both platforms? Finally, is there an environment variable I can query for it?

View 2 RepliesI have an aspx page that has two different user controls. I want to find user control A and be able to set properties, etc., from user control B.
I was thinking I could do something like this:
Dim CMFilters As Control = Me.Parent.FindControl("CMFilters")
...but that doesnt work to be able to set properties and call methods. I somehow need to get the user control and and declare it as that user control type.
is there any way to stretch a datagrid's control columns so they would take all the space width of the form?I can set datagrid's dock property to bottom so it will take all the bottom by height but the right side of the data grid will stay empty which is not good.If I set datagrid's dock property to right it jumps all over the form...So I need a way to fill up my datagrid's bottom and right (width) side so I would not have empty space.
