View 13 RepliesI know it's possible to read from database and generate them onto listbox but how about listview using call function. here's a sample of what how a listbox is able to read from a database and generate them on the listbox.the listbox is reading from database, how does one make it to read from an active listview.
Private Sub frmReceipt_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim strConnection As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= luggageb.mdb"

I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call.The DLL function call signature is like this:
typedef void *HANDLE;
typedef HANDLE HACQDESC;
DECLARE_HANDLE (HWND);

I have two forms. Form A and Form B. Form A has a datagrid that is populated from a SQL Database Table query. When a button is pressed Form B is launched that allows you to add a record to the database table. I need for the datagrid to be refreshed and show the newly added record when I close form B and go back to the parent.

I have a small program which draws some lines with a method called: Drawlines But Now I want to call this method in the load form routine. So if the form is loaded the lines should be drawn in the picturebox. But is this possible or should the form first be loaded completely before you can call methods in that same form?

Just wondering where I should put the coding, should it be inside Form Load Event or after InitializeComponent() call?
I have a class inhert ToolStripButton. it builds a new toolstrip button. the button will be added to the toolstrip which is on main form.
I will need call function in the main form. what's the right way to do this?
now, I pass the main form when create the class. but I guess the right way is to raise the event in main form.
but, how about the properties in main form?
if I raise the event, will it run the event first, then go to the next line of the class? or, just raise event, then go to the next line in the class immediately?
Just had a small doubt.Say i use something like this
vb Dim ownr as New Form1Dim Dlg as New Form2ownr.Showdlg.showdialog(ownr)
how should i call an public function of form1 in the form2 if form1 is owner of form2, and also if form1 is not the owner of form2 should i use FormName.FunctionName in both the cases.
I need to pass an uint8 array from C++ DLL to VB6 application but I receive always following error: "subscript out of range" if I try to work with the array 'pabyData' in my VB6 procedure. The C procedure is: typedef void (__stdcall *FUNCPTR2SendData) (const uint8_t* pabyData, uint16_t wDataLength); void SendData(const uint8_t* pabyData, uint16_twDataLength) { FUNCPTR2SendData vbFunc; vbFunc = (FUNCPTR2SendData) ptCBFPointers->p2NewDirectDataSMSEvnt; // ptCBFPointers are call back pointers, where is saved the call back address of VB6 functions vbFunc(pabyData, wDataLength); } The VB6 procedure is: Public Sub SendData(ByRef pabyData() As Byte, ByVal wDataLength As Integer
View 2 RepliesI have a form set up where I want to run the function PopulateGrid on it's Form_Load event. I have initialized the DB connection as follows:
Private Sub Main_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
LoadConfigFile()
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & config("DatabasePath") & ";")
cn.Open()
End Sub
Now, I want to run the PopulateGrid function directly after I connect to the database as shown above. I'm confused as to how I'd use a database query in a module when the database is initialized in my main form. Would simple setting the variable cn to public work?
I am having a toolstrip in the mdi form which contains save, update delete and clear buttons. The child form is having save, update, delete and clear as public sub routines , and client form will not have any standard buttons, I will click the respective button in the parent tool window which should call the child forms function.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
Here's my call:
<script type="text/javascript">
function HelloWorld()

i would like to have a shared function in a separate class file to address the form location . but i dont know how can i get this to work. if i use this below code in my form its working . but i cannot move this to a class file.

I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
I am trying have a data grid selection populate a form. I am new to this.Basically I have a connection persistance object and I would like to call that and call a stored procedure with the value of the selection. The datagrid is bound to an object.

How can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event.
2. From the click event I call a function
3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read.
4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.
ive two custom controls, which are used to draw and edit etc...(like paint but customized....) i want to save their images with a single click....So im using the Getimageofcontrol function to do it....its code is below:::
Public Function GetImageOfControl(ByVal c As Control) As Image
Dim rc As New Rectangle(c.PointToScreen(c.Location), c.Size)
Dim i As Image = New Bitmap(rc.Width, rc.Height)[code].....
and the code to call this function for saving the images is simply.. ...
GetImageOfControl(pboxd).Save("c:78.jpg")
GetImageOfControl2(pboxf).Save("c:lp.jpg")
but the problem is that both the images have the same content....
I have a function where I am performing a lot number of database operations inside a Sub. The operation when called directly like:ExecProcess()
takes about 11 seconds to run.However, if I create a Delegate, and call the sub using BeginInvoke(), the very same process takes over 40 seconds to execute.Here's the threaded code:
Protected del As ProcessDelegate
Protected Delegate Sub ProcessDelegate()
del = New ProcessDelegate(AddressOf SELocal.ExecJob)
Dim cb As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf Me.ExecJobComplete)
del.BeginInvoke(cb, del)
Anyone know what may cause a function to take longer inside a new thread, rather than calling directly?
Some programs implement command parameters, Like my favourite computer game - Crysis - has them and windows media player has them.But how could i implement them in VB.NET..I want to have a component of my program built as a seperate exe - so it can be an Optional component.But of course the seperate exe, on load, needs data passing to it.So i need something like Process.start("Componentname.exe", "/StartDL <Suchandsuchastring>)/StartDL will need to call a function, and the string that it uses will be given to the function to initiate a download?
View 9 RepliesI am attempting to inherit an ASP.NET RegularExpressionValidator and add some functionality to it. I inherited the control and added my custom properties. However, I would also like the client-side functionality to call a different JavaScript function.
In order to do that, I will need to supress what is happening in the AddAttributesToRender method because the name of the function is hard-coded there. Here is what comes up in Reflector for the AddAttributesToRender function in RegularExpressionValidator:

Note: I tried to add the expando property before the parent class does to see if the code would check for its existence and skip it, but that just causes an exception.
I arrive from years with Oracle plsql. Now I'm trying vb.net I created a function that return a char value, so written:

The question: I will create a function get_type(...) in vb.net that calls the tsql function written above... how can I call the tsql function [abc].[GET_PERSON_TYPE] in vb.net function get_type(...) function?
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Form1
Dim con As OleDbConnection
Dim cmd As OleDbCommand

The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.
I have a VB .NET 2010 application. I added a C# project to my solution. I tried to call the form called 'main'. However, I could not figure out a way to do that. What is the best way to do that? I Goggled, and did not find anything. Actually I noticed that my Developer converted everything to VB .NET.

View 3 RepliesI'm having one basic aspx script that needs to load some "plugins". Every plugin has its own settings and it should perform different logics. What i'd do in php is create a class for each plugin, load that class, pass the settings file to it and call some method on that class that would give me some output. But is it even possible in vb.net? I'd need to have multiple files with multiple classes, load those files, depending on the plugin name and call some method on them to parse that plugin's settings.
