How To Find Input String In Database
Oct 30, 2011
I want to find the text in textbox in my database. I wrote the code below. It finds numbers well, but when I want to find strings it gives a runtime error: invalid column name for example aaa, but aaa exists in column1 in my table.What do you think about the problem?
cmd = New SqlCommand("select * from tbl where column1=" + TextBox1.Text)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
cmd.Connection = cnn

I doing some maintenance work on a vb .net web app and receive a system.formatexception input string was not in a correct format error after I update a row from a GridView control. The database update returns fine and I've stepped through the code and it never throws an error but when execution finishes and returns to the browser I get the following. I turned on the feature to break when an exception occurs but it never does break. Any suggestions? [Code]

how to find connection string of any database or any server like, access or sql or Oracle?ans:-to find connection string.first open the new notepad.don't write anything it it.just save any side like my document,or Desktop with any name and give it's extension. " UDL ".after there will be one PC type folder will be created. double click on that folder and go to first tab that is Provider.select your provider like Access, Sql etc. and go to Next tab that is connection. if access then it will tell you enter database name or you can locate your database .mdb file and if it is sql then it will ask you your server name, authentication and database name. select it and click on text connection it will give message connection is OK.then close the file and further open that file with notepad you will get your connection string.

I'm trying to make a program for a school assessment in VB express 2010 using databases. The program essentially has a panel for uploading an image with a name string and an author string, which it then stores in a database. You can then search the database using the name or author string and find pictures that fit the criteria.

Probably I am asking something stupid. I have a datagridview in which I would like to be able to let the user change values of multiple columns by entering values (input 55.0) or additions(input +1.2)/decreases(input -1.2).How can I check what the exact input of the user is ?
At the moment I only use the input value (so for exampel 55.0) for which I use the DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value which I put in all selected cells, but I would like to receive the exact user input (so eg '+1.2')

We know that VB string start and end with double quotes " "
So we have to use "" if we want " in VB string.
I wonder if there is a regular expression pattern which will match VB string?.

I am receiving this error message: "Input string was not in a correct format." on my ASP.net 2.0 VB project.
When looking at other posts with this error its obvious that each time it will be specific to the users' project. Therefore my main question is, is it possible to generate a more informative error message?
I am already in debug mode but it does not tell me in which string the problem lies. I am converting some strings to integers with "Cint" and have also tried the Integer.Parse() method to no avail.

I am trying to write a program that reads values from a datafile and makes the data available in an array for further use in the program. The data consist of a description and then a value (COM_PORT=COM1, for example). My idea is to put the data in an array so that I can just search the array for COM_PORT and I will get COM1 back. Is that a good approach of handling it this way? What methods would I use to put the data (I use FileSystem.ReadAllText, the data is in a string) into an array? Would the split method work?

I'm having an issue with a page I created that was working fine two months ago. Nothing has changed in structure of the SQL tables and I have even done an insert within SQL to the table and all works fine with SQL. So the problem lies within the code. I'm getting this error:
Input string was not in a correct format.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
Source Error:
Line 71: Dim sv As String = grd.Rows(i).Cells(7).Text
Line 72: ApproveManifest(sv, ffisID)
Line 73: Insert(sv.Remove(0, 6))
Line 74: PushIn001(sv.Remove(0, 6))
Line 75: PushIn002(sv.Remove(0, 6))
[Code] .....
If I comment out line 73 and run it, I get the same error on 74. If I comment out 73, 74 and 75 the code runs to the end fine, it just doesn't insert the data into my table. It was working just fine and now it's not working.

My error message is as listed in the header "Input string was not in a correct format" however the stack trace is even more cryptic [code]...
This is worse due to the fact that nowhere in the project does it use "ParseDouble". I believe that this has something to do with the objectfactorylibrary but can't pin anything down.

With the following snippet
Foo = IIf(String.IsNullOrEmpty(txtFoo.Text), 0, Integer.Parse(txtFoo.Text.Trim))
I get the error when I submit the field without a value: "Input string was not in a correct format." I don't have any space or something else and String.IsNullOrEmpty(txtFoo.Text) returns true.
