How To Write / Save Data File (Multiple Nested Arrays)
Nov 22, 2010
I Have a complex Class Structure that holds a large amount of data in the form of multiple nested arrays that I want to save to a file and retrieve everytime I use my program.. How do I do this? I am using VB10 Express.
I've been making a program whereby users names and numbers must be stored in external files. At the moment I can get the names to read and write to a file with these lines:
Imports System.IO Public Class frmDefaultMenu Private Sub frmDefaultMenu_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code].....
Where each line has a name, a seaparator (,) and then the corresponding number.
When the program loads I would like it to be able to access that file, and store all the names into an array named ExistingUsers() and all the Numbers into an array called ExistingNumbers(), and then when a new name is added in the textbox, it is assigned the number "100" and placed at the end of the array, then when the application quits OR straight away, the external files are updated.
I'm currently developing an editor for an AFL management sim.I want to be able to load three or four multidimensional arrays to the program, then save them to the same file. I tried the tutorial on here but got completely muddled up. Why can't it be easy like in VB6 When it was like 10 lines of code tops!
I'm working on a program and in it I need to store all combination's of the numbers 1,2,3,4. I would like each combination to be it's own array, and instead of creating 24 different arrays (there are 24 different combinations 1,2,3 and 4 can be arranged) I was wondering if it's possible to create a nested array like so:
That way, I'd be able to reference index 2 of the above array and have the array [1,3,4,2] returned.I looked into multidimensional arrays, but this would require me calling each index of the row and column.I also looked into making a Structure in which there was an array that could hold 4 numbers, but wasn't sure if going that method would be practical or not.
trying to save users names and passwords from input boxes and save it as arrays in text file that in future multiple users will log in with their names and passwords have this code so far but doesnt realy save the user info to file, dont even create file.
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
i'm having issues where I can't figure out how to take a text file that was provided for my homework assignment, and put the information within it into 3 different arrays. The .txt file looks like so:tc.Amanda/Ashley have to be in the same array as well as 4/2, 166/20.This is what I've come up with for the snippet of code, and so far, it hasn't really been working right.
Dim namearray(MaxItems), rankarray1990(MaxItems), rankarray2009(MaxItems) As String Dim Numitems As Integer Dim sr As System.IO.StreamReader
I'm looking to be able to save and load the content from multiple structured arrays and variables into/from an encrypted file, is there any reliable source of information or tutorial that I'd be able to use for this? I've never written a program in visual basic that writes to/reads from a file.
I have learnt how to create a basic random word generator. I now want to take this further but I would like to know if what I am thinking of is possible. I am in the process of wanting to create a random name/word generator which reads/loads an array from a text file. think this part I will be Ok with as there are some vids and tutorials about. However, I wish for the text file to have multiple arrays and then dependant on the day and time of the day, only a string from the current time array is loaded. Does that make sense and is it possible? I am happy to spend time learning how to do this but only if it is possible.
So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME CALLNAME BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.
I am trying to write a form with 6 text boxes that when the update button is pressed it will add the text from each textbox to a text file and the each one separated by a comma on one line. I know how to read/write from a file to a text box and vice versa but I cannot figure out how to add 6 textboxes to the file in one go.
I am trying to store 8 separate pieces of information in a text file (like a database) [but not a SQL database], consisting of integers and strings. How would I use an array to do this? Will an array collect data from text boxes (I also want to display the 8 pieces of information in separate boxes). also how would I save the text file so I can open it again or open a different text file (database?), from within the program?
EDIT: I see I need to use readline and writeline to read/write from a text file but how would I find specific data to show in my boxes?
I have a data in the below format number = 4 length = 7 force = 100 Now I want to read it in a format that it will check the string 'number' or 'length' or 'force' or whatever and stores this data into specified arrays or listboxes. Like a force() array or listboxforce.items()
My xml files were looking a bit clumsy when i read them, what i have done now is to save them in the xml in this format:
vb.net <field>{value1|its partner value2}</field>
i noticed {|} this is the format that vb.net uses for arrays, i was wondering if that's an ok way to store things, on retrieval once i get the node value, what would be the best way to break up the {value1|it's partner value2} variables to use, explode the | and get parts (0) and (1)?
I'm still playing with my program that has multiple RichTextBoxes. What I want to do is to be able to save the data in all these boxes (only about 10 characters max in each box) to a simple text file and then reload the saved data into the exact boxes they came from at a later date.
I have problem when save data at ms access database (save multiple data). VB.NET Dim prodid As String Dim charga As Double = 0 Dim iqty As Double = 0 Dim idisc As Double = 0 'simpan detail For i As Integer = 0 To dg.Rows.Count - 1 [Code] ..... The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data.
i need to code a program to help me in my everyday job, i own my own business and this will help me with my sales. its a very simple program, and i cant figure out how to get my multiple textboxes to write to a new .txt file. i can only get it to do 1 line at a time. I have textboxes. named txtDate, txtCarrier, txtLocation, txtDateEmpty, txtDestination, txtQuote, txtPhone, txtFax, txtEmail.I want the "txtDate" textbox to be autofilled with the current date and time of the user input, which is started on the next textbox.the rest of the textboxes are going to be user input. then when the user is done entering data into the multiple textbox's they would click a button "add" or something to that sort.then those text box entries including the "txtDate" would be written to a new .txt file.in this format, Quote"Date - Carrier - Location - DateEmpty - Destination - Quote - Phone - Fax - Email "all on the same line.and when the "add" button is clicked, the multiple textbox fields clear all the data previously entered.and is ready for another user input.
after the 2nd set of user input is entered, and "add" button is pressed,it would add(append) another line to same txt file previously written. example: Quote"Date - Carrier - Location - DateEmpty - Destination - Quote - Phone - Fax - Email " "Date2 - Carrier2 - Location2 - DateEmpty2 - Destination2 - Quote2 - Phone2 - Fax2 - Email2 "
then the previously filled text boxes would be empty again, and ready for input 3. and with this you would be able to add countless lines over and over of user input.ok, also when the program launchesI want a msg txt box to pop up and ask. "Where is the Load Origin?" then the user would input data and click enterAnother Msg box would pop up and ask "Where is the Destination?"Next "Pick Up Date" then "Deliver Date" and last would be "Notes" and all that data that was entered into the msg box's will Be at the top of the txt file like a header .
In .NET, Is it possible to run a nested query from two separate Oracle databases?
[Code]...
Ultimately, this is an effort to overcome an "ORA-01795" error from using an "in" statement with over 1000 items in the conditional list, without having to break the query out into multiple "OR value IN" lists.
I would like to use nested tokens, a similar question was asked in this thread [URL While this did address how to do it with a single instance, I was wondering how to do it with multiple instances in a string. ie.
input to textbox1 "I {love|like} {blue|red|orange|pink} its my {favorite|worst} color "
Press a button and would output a random word in the brackets to textbox2/msgbox similar to. "I like red its my favorite color" or "I love pink its my worst color"
I have the following code, which reads data from xml file and displays it in the datagridview. It all works fine:
[Code]...
Instead of showing read data in datagridview, i'd want to read the data from xml file into one dimensional array: X(Impedances) Or is there a way to read value from this datatable into string variable without getting data from datagridview? The point is: i'd want to scan through all "Impedance" values (which are read from xml file) and compare with value y to catch the nearest value to y. How to do that?
I have created a simple drawing program in vb 2010 and am trying to add the ability to create multiple images and put them in a slide show type thing similar to powerpoint. The only problem is that I do not know how to save multiple images to a file and open it back up again. For example:If I have created 5 images, I want all five to save to one file, and be reopened as one file but 5 different images.
I have a form with a listbox that when the form is opened I need it to display info from a file. I don't know what would be easier to work with Excel or a txt file, but it is in this format:
Phillip Frank 3/19/1990 3 999-555-8618[code].......
I would like it to populate the list box when the form is loaded, but if I have to use a button to tell it to load that is fine also.On the same form I have 4 textboxes that ask for each of the above items (name, DOB, Level, PH#) and a button that when pushed I want it to save it to the same file where the above info was pulled from in the same format. The Show Contacts button doesn't have to be used if it is not needed.
I am trying to save multiple type of objects to a single file, objects are a custom class that I am able to serializable and another object is a word document that is not being able to serialize via binary. Is there a way to save multiple objects to one file using vb, also would it be possible to save files like how a docx is saved, that is a .zip renamed as docx but get access to inner objects.
I have a sign up sheet that I am working on for instance;
username password street address city state zip
I've been trying to save the textboxes individually but when I go to load the information everthing is pushed all into one textbox.....I'm also using the SaveFileDialog and OpenFil
