View 1 RepliesI am trying to automate the removal of lines in a text box with no characters or numbers. I have the following code, but it is not working.
Code:
Private Sub RemoveBlankToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RemoveBlankToolStripMenuItem.Click
Dim tmp() As String = RTB_01.Text.Split(CChar(vbNewLine))
[code]....
I'm using IO.File.ReadAllLines(FileName) to read all lines from text file to array of strings at once. Problem is, text lines include ANSI characters above ASCII value 127 (Scandinavian letters e.g. "Ä" (Ascii 196), "ö" (Ascii 246) and "é" (Ascii 233). Array is build up nicely, but all chars above ascii value 127 are not shown right. How can I use ANSI character set with .ReadAllLines to correct this problem? In VB6 with "Open Filename For Input As #1 / Line Input #1, txtLine" there wasn't any problem.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to compute 100! and there doesn't seem to be a built-in factorial function. So, I've written:
Protected Sub ComputeFactorial(ByVal n As ULong)
Dim factorial As ULong = 1
Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To n
[code]....
Unfortunately, running this with the value of 100 for n rseults in
Value was either too large or too small for a UInt64.
So, is there a larger data type for holding numbers? Am i mistaken in my methods?
As you'll can see the first image is the size of (1024*768) and it is correctly displayed in the picturebox and in the second case the image size is (1600*900) and it is displayed to half of the picturebox and the remaining is missing .So No I would like to fir that image in the picturebox no matter what the size is and even though it is greater than the size of the picturebox.I need to scale that Image. So how do I do that? And one more thing is that I need to resize the picturebox automatically when the image loads to it just as we see in the lightbox effect..url...
View 1 Replieshow to count the lines in textbox1.text (with multiplelines). I don't need to count each character. I only need to count each line from top to bottom in textbox1.text (multiplelines) and I will use Label1 to display the numbers.
example:
1-pauljaones
2-tommyperrry
3-marktoms
4-Jonessmith
5-paulwhite
Obviously this is 5 lines and that's what I need to count.
I have written a simple script to get a bunch of lines from a text file (they will be filenames eventually) which are split by new lines and puts each one into an array..
Dim ary() As String
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists("C:MenuFiles.txt") Then
[code]....
The only thing I can do for now is either use the substring function to remove the first character from all array values after 0 but I don't like that because it's messy and what if the split "works" as I want it to one one of the lines and knocks of the first character when I don't want it to.
How can I make the textbox in a VB Inputbox larger?

View 1 RepliesEssentially I am trying to replicate the Windows 7 (In-Windows) activation key TextBox form. The Form where it will auto capitalize letters, remove or deny all non alphanumeric characters except dashes every 5 characters that will be auto-input.I assume this can be done with a fairly complicated replacement Regular Expression but I cannot seem to create one to fit the needs.
This is an Example of what I have right now, but it creates an infinite loop as it removes all characters including dashes, than adds a dash, which changes the text and removes the dash again.

View 3 RepliesI need to create a console program that allows you to enter a string, of which is then outputted in reverse.
Sample:
Input: Diewas
Output: saweiD
Apparently I need to find out about strings and will also need to use a loop.
I have the following code to generate combinations of string for a small list and would like to adapt this for a large list of over 300 string words. Can anyone suggest how to alter this code or to use a different method.

I have the following barcode image:
I'm using the following iTextSharp VB.NET script to generate a PDF document containing this barcode:
Dim pdfDocument As iTextSharp.text.Document = Nothing
Dim filename As String = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("barcode.pdf")
pdfDocument = New iTextSharp.text.Document()
[Code]....
When this PDF is generated, however, the image is appearing larger than expected, and is distorted:
I can't see anywhere where I'm setting the image to be a specific size, so why would it distort like this? And how can I prevent it?
It's crucial that this image remains the size it is intended to be so that it can be read by barcode scanners.
I understand the concept of bytes and declaring variables to save on processing space. I understand that the max value that can be stored in a byte is 255. I cannot seem to wrap my head around my current issue. I don't have much experience working with byte manipulation.

I'm making an application in vb.net and during the development has arisen the need to make a form greater than the screen resolution. For example:
Screen resolution: 1280x800 and 2560x1600 sizes form
Obviously, the form should
not have scrollbars.
Screen Size of my deployment screen is larger than my development screen.
If i try to set my form size larger than my development screen size, IDE doesnot accepts this.
Please let me know How can I use a form larger than my development screen Size?
I am trying to get a small bitmap from a larger image. something like
Dim bmp As New Bitmap(PictureBox2.Image)
However this just gets the entire picture not just a portion of it, I would like to do something like this where I can specify the starting and stoping points
Dim bmp As New Bitmap(PictureBox2.Image, StartX, StartY, EndX, EndY)
I would also like to take these smaller images and paste them into a single larger image. Is there any way to paste it in starting a a certain point. Such as
paste bmp into Picture1 (StartX, StartY)
Okay: I've been searching the threads and MSDN and elsewhere and either its not there or I am simply not understanding what I am finding.I have an image which at full resolution is larger than my screen (actually it is larger than any screen). I want to be able to look at parts of it at full resolution in a client area that is the size of the entire image at full res; that is, I want the window to exist without any scroll bars and want to be able to examine different parts of the image by repositioning the window on the desktop.
In general, I've run into trouble insofar as windows (or maybe VB) won't let me make my window any larger than my operative desktop (although interestingly it will let me place the window to the North-West of my visible screen). What it won't let me do so far is to grow my window any larger than my desktop.
So far I have noodled a couple of different possibilities, in descending order of preference:
(1) Find some way to exempt my window from the limitation that it be smaller than the desktop;
(2) Virtually increase the size of my desktop so that it is as large or larger than my image (i.e., find some way of exempting my desktop from the limitation that the desktop represent the dimensions of the screen/monitor -- understanding that those two are not the same);
(3) Simulate a multi-monitor configuration (I'll probably need at least four); or
(4) Actually configure my system for four+ monitors (I don't even know whether that's possible, but its certainly not my first choice).
Does any one have any other ideas or suggestions as to how I ought to proceed?[URL]..
Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days. So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then
If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!

I have two textboxes. I type in one of them and the text gets copied in real time into another textbox. There is one catch. I need to replace specific character with something else.
If I enter a quote " in textbox1, it has to be replaced with " in textbox2.
I started with something like the below code, but obviously this does not work (tried different stuff - this is for demonstration only). In the example below 'a' represents " , and 'b' represents "

With the shape of really large characters such as numbers and alphabetic characters + others, is there a way to get that shape as a REGION please?Imagine a really fat snake forming the letter S or two rectangles placed together to form a large letter L or a T like the shapes in TETRIS.
1) Does anyone know of anything in VB.Net that can translate such shapes into a System. Drawing.Region or know of a project elsewhere that achieves this please?
2) While I'm on the subject, how would you SCALE UP / DOWN a System.Drawing.Region please? How would you work out the Transform Matrix required please?
I'm making an application that will change position of two characters in Word.

Program works good, it is mixing characters good, but it doesn't write text to the file. It will write text in console, but not in file. Note: Program is working only with words that are divisible by 2, but it's not a problem. Also, it does not return any error message.
I'm making a custom control suited for handling passwords. I have created a control that inherits from a text box and I have implemented a lot of things so far. But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time. Is there a way to turn only selected characters into password characters and still be able to get the password text from the Text property ?
View 4 RepliesI have a class library with a component class in it. Everything is in VB.NET. It's only one file so you can see it here [url].. On line 92, there is the OnTextChanged Sub. I was thinking about adding ProcessAllLines() (as on line 128) to the end of that Sub, and it worked. However when I was typing in code to the RichTextBox (source which I used is here [url...) after each text change it was checking and processing ALL the lines. So I deleted ProcessAllLines() in the OnTextChanged Sub.[code]...
