View 1 RepliesI've looked through some of the related topics to this newly created thread but none have answered my question. Refer to the following code below:

'declares the following Word and Excel variables as public

I am currently using the following code to print a word document[code]...
However I have found it to be buggy with our shared printers, this bug only happens when printing using word. It works fine when doing print automation with PDFs(Adobe Reader) etc.
What I am looking for is some code in vb.net which will allow me print this documents and I have to be about to specify the printer it uses.
I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.

View 2 RepliesI decided it was about time I learned about accessing Microsoft Office products via VB.NET. I started with Excel and it all worked fine, I could create a new Excel Application, open a workbook from file and read from the sheet then close it all down again no worries. However, when I turned to Word...things got strange. Using the code provided below, every time I run it an instance of Microsoft Word opens itself on the desktop (with no loaded content). I didn't have this problem when using Excel with similar code, so I have to ask..what gives? Is there a way I can stop MS word opening at all? At the moment it just flickers for a second (it opens when I open the document, then when I call the Quit method it shuts down a split second later)[code]...
View 3 RepliesI have a question regarding opening a file to view it in wordpad and i would like to know where to start.
I have looked through a few posts and the only "open" things i can find are to edit the contents of a file without viewing the contents.
How can i open a file in wordpad or What should i be looking for to find out about this myself?
what i am planning to do: Making a form wich contains a richtextbox, then using a string that includes the path of the file and the filename, example path: C:\lol.gfc if you would've check the string you will see that it is a non word document, i want to get the text wich is in this file in my richtextbox. i know that there are just normal characters and normal text in this document and i can open it with wordpad. this is how far i came...
FileOpen(1, pathstring, OpenMode.Random, OpenAccess.ReadWrite, _
OpenShare.Shared)
make my homework cause i didnt do anything myself yet, well i tryed but it never worked and i didnt came further than the ofileopen command.
I want to open a number of RTF documents in Word 2007, one at a time, in a VB .NET program. Here is a small representative sample of my code:
Imports Word = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word
Public Shared WordApp As Object = Nothing
Public Shared WordAppInit As Boolean = False
Public Shared Sub ExecWord()
If Not WordAppInit Then
On Error Resume Next
[Code] .....
Sometimes it hangs on one of the WordApp or WordDoc statements in TestSub1; sometimes it gets all the way through TestSub1 without problems but then hangs in TestSub2. Often it leaves an instance of WinWord running so that I have to kill it in Task Manager or reboot the system.
oDoc = oWord.Documents.Open(My.Settings.DocPath & "Letter.doc")
HOWEVER, whenever the debugger hits this line, it simply quits. No the application doesnt quit, no it does not hit the finally, end try or End Sub...it simply quits the sub. Actually, I think it causes the app to freeze but hard to tell because it happens in a dialogue form and this causes the dialogue form to bypass its close statement!
In my vb.net app (windows),with this code word document is not opening with menu bar,tool bar etc[code]...
View 1 RepliesAll i want to do is write some text into word... some of the text is normal text the other is bold... how do I achieve this?The samples I have seen, they either do normal text or bold.. but in different lines utilising InsertParagraphAfter()I need to have both in the one lineie how do i do the following line? using vb.net and word automation (word 2010)

View 4 RepliesI am trying to open a word template inside a form in my vb.net application but I cannot seem to find any guidance to doing this. I do not want to call microsoft word to open in order to see/read/write on my template. I want the word document to be within a form I am creating like a print preview sort off. I am using Word 2007 and VS 2008. I have been using so far automation and calling and interacting with the template but until so far I have to open Microsoft word to open it for me.

Using VB2008 on a W7 system equipped with Office 2010, I added a reference to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word (The Office12 version, not sure if this is OK). Then I have the following code:
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim WordApp As Word.Application
[code]....
But all I keep getting is an exception on the CreateObject line indicating "Cannot create ActiveX component". I don't think it likes the "Word.Application" statement for some reason. Is this because I'm using Word2010?
I am opening a word document and saving it as html with the following code. If i set the objWord.Visible = False , i get an error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A1098 , which i believe indicates there is nothing to open.
Protected Sub btnUpload_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim objWord As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass = New ApplicationClass()
If Not (fUpload.HasFile) Then
[code].....
i need assistance that will help me open word document in window form. i will be glad if someone can furnish me with sample code .

View 6 RepliesIn Form1 there are a lot of boxes like checkbox, label....I want to show a processing message for opening serial port after program running. So I created Form2 specifically showing "Opening Port...". So in Form1_Load() I used Form2.Show(). However this message showed behind of Form1. I think this was executed before all the other tool boxes loading. So where should I put Form2.Show()?

I'm developing a small vb application that will enable a user to select an excel spreadsheet as the source data and a word document as a letter template then create a mailmerge from the two.It's all working fine apart from when the mailmerge runs, a dialog box pops up asking for the sheet to be selected. The list of options is blank until the 'options' button is clicked and 'system tables' is selected. This is a word thing but I'd like to turn this off, if possible selecting the necessary options programatically from within my vb application.
My opendatasource code is:
.OpenDataSource(Name:=sourcefile, LinkToSource:=True, SQLStatement:="select * from 'Sheet1$'", _

I want to develop an application which can Write, Save, Read text files(or html files) What I want the application to do is. When I open my application I can write stuffs and then it will save it to my hosting/server. Then, the application will read the text which I already save.. So far, I can only make the application read it by using WebBrowser control and navigating it to a specified URL. Example: [URL](or message.txt) Which I modified from the website not from the application. I want to modify the text or html files from my application.
