Aug 1, 2011I am new to Visual Basic and i started to write a console application. I it working fine by now, but I tried to execute a command like shutdown -s I tried that by writing
console.writeline("shutdown -s")
but all it dows it displays the text and does not shutdown the computer. How do I code that correctly???

The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

Jul 18, 2009I have Visual Basic 5.0 and need to print the full form in landscape mode. My form has lines,textboxes, and labels that need to be printed as they are on the screen. I understand that printform.print does not respond to changing to landscape orientation. I have tried the paint picture method, but did not like the quality of the text. I have also tried having a common dialog box before printing and even set the default to landscape, but the form still printed in portrait. Is there a way that I can print my form in landscape mode in Visual Basic 5.0?

Print Form Using Visual Basic PowerPack PrintForm?
Jan 20, 2011I have created a form that we use for our employee goal setting. I would like to let the users print the form. The form is quite large and has scroll bars. I am trying to use the Printform to print the form. I would like to use autofit or some other type of scaling to get the form to fit on one page. I have done some looking aroung and have seen the following instrutions a couple of times.
1.Drag a PrintForm component onto the Form from the Visual Studio Toolbox
2.Set the PrintForm.BodyContainer property to reference your Form
3.Drag a PrintPreviewDialog component onto your Form from the Visual Studio Toolbox
4.Set the PrintPreviewDialog.Document property to reference the PrintForm component
5.Add a button and button click handler. In the handler call PrintPreviewDialog.ShowDialog()

Basically my requirement is when a list box is dropped it shows a datagrid, right now user has to click 2 times to get focus on datagrid, although i send a focus on datagrid when list is dropped from dropdown event still the focus stays on list box, i have to click 1 time to release focus from listbox then click on datagrid to set focus. I like to automate this 2 clicks with a keystroke. I dont see any mouse button click keystrokes.

Oct 13, 2009I have a several C# console applications that basically parse tons of data in memory (LINQ) and output the results to a text file. Now, forget about the writing to the text file for a minute because this is not where the problem is occurring.
When I run the application in debug mode, I will never get it to utilize more than 50% of cpu usage. It will be parsing/massaging hundreds of thousands of records, but only go X fast and utilize 50% of the cpu AT MOST (as viewed in the Task Manager).
I would really like to use 100% of the CPU to make the processing go faster. Does anybody have any insight? I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional with Service Pack 1 installed. I have manually set the affinity of the process in Task Manager to a single core on the dual CPU. Sometimes I can catch it utilizing 51% or 52% of the CPU.

Oct 4, 2011We are installing our application on windows 7. The application utlizes a Acces database. The application locates the database by looking in the registry under at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / WOW6432NODE / COMPANY NAME / SOFTWARE NAME /STARTUP. When i install the application on windows 7 it places the a database where installshield directs it to and writes the path to the registry. However, somehow local copies of the database are showing up under the user profiles. (Example: c:/users/profilename/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program FIles (X86)/Company/SoftwareName/Data). We recently changed it to store the information in c:/ProgramData/Company/software however the same issue occurs and its creating local copies of the database and when the application runs it points to the local copy of the database. What we need is for all users to be pointed to and use the same database in ProgramData, is there something we are missing to accomplish this?
