In VB.net 2010
when i reopen my solutions the document tabs are empty, None of my open documents were saved. I hate this as have always been used to the documents being restored.
I have searched but cannot find the option to alter this behavior.
Users can configure settings in my program, and those settings need to be saved for the next time the program is used, How can I implement this?
View 5 RepliesI am faced with quite a bit of a challenge: We have an (Oracle) database with about half a million documents in it. These documents are of all kinds of sorts: Office documents (.doc, .xls, etc.) but also email messages (.msg), text messages (.txt), images (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, .tif), .html files and even .zip files... The documents are saved in the database through an VB6 OLE container. So they are stored in the database in the same binary format as you would get when you call SaveToFile from the OLE container. Now I need to restore all these documents to their original files... For the Word documents I've found that I can read the binary data back into the OLE container and then use OLE automation for this by calling OleContainer.object.SaveAs(fileName). This works for about 90% of the Word documents. But for the other types of documents I haven't found yet how you can call the save function from code.

View 1 RepliesI have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document.This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]

How can I make it so these documents all display an icon that I have made? Also, how do I set them to open in my application by default, when the program is installed, or first run?
View 1 RepliesMy Visual studio crashes every time I open a specific project, because before closing VS2010 last, I forgot to close a .vb file that I had drug to my second monitor. The issue is likely related to floating tab wells in the VS Productivity Power Tools extension.now when I try to load the solution it will progress part way, but when it tries to reopen the documents that had previously been open, it crashes hard.anyway, I am trying to find out where VS stores info about the code documents that were open at last project close, so I can clear it out.does anyone know where VS stores info about the previously opened code documents? I've checked the project and solution files but neither appears to hold this info. I know that the location must be within the project however, since getting a new version of the codebase from source control corrects the issue (but I still have code to check in...)
View 7 RepliesI am working on a project where I need to open microsoft word documents in a form with a panel (the document will be put into a panel).I found the code to try and use API, it would not recognize the file names (yes they are valid filenames).Tried a whole bunch of stuff. Here is my current incarnation:

It ALWAYS starts the word document in its own window and will not redirect it to my own program.I tried to redirect the output and it gave me a message that it was not a valid win32 application.

None of this is important, I'm just giving you backround info. I want to make the program a little bit.. spiffier and cooler. im making another program to my collection. I put them up on my website.on this one, I want to make the startup form (login.vb) like a login form.I have a template and I was wondering, instead of using an aspx.net authentication thing, could I just save it to "C:\Program Files\Facebook\users(hidden)\log.txt" and then, when the login button is clicked, it will check to see if the textbox's match the texts in the directory, and if they are correct, then It will open browser.vb? Also I looked for this sort of code, but all I could find was openfiledialogs and savefiledialogs, but I need it to run "in the background" just for verification.
I dont care that people can just click show hidden folders and then have the passwords, because it really doesn't have anything inportant in it. Also an Override account like Admin would be useful.
I have created an Excel AddIn that has a custom ribbon with some custom buttons...I'm using Excel 2010. One of the buttons is to save the the workbook by utilizing the users input as the file name. This workbook is to be saved as a template in a specified folder. The code also checks to see if the file already exists, and prompts the user to overwrite if it does already exist.The code I have seems to be working just fine. The problem is...when I try to open the newly saved workbook, it won't open.Here is the entire code for the button click event:

I made a buttom that saves info from RichTextBox to selected location now My problem is I want this file to be loaded when program loads so basicly folder will look like this
myprogram.exe CustomNamesFolder > Inside that folder there will be a file called names.txt how can I doit so that name.txt file loads in my ComboBox? so when user downloads the exe they can just go in to folder edit the .txt file and add names they want and when they start program it will load this list in to the ComboBox of my program

I can't stop the image from flashing and it is very slow. Does anyone know of a way to loop through them quickly and can the page counts (one image can have many documents)?

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.
View 9 RepliesNow I have a sub to validate a bunch of textboxes and combo boxes.I previously used many IF statements to validate and pop up different messageboxes and Exit Sub in every IF statement.But I heard that too many Exits will decrease the efficiency and they were not recommended to use. Instead, nested IF is better because it will let the process naturally go to the end.Then I found out that if I use nested IF,it will be hard to read, since messageboxes are all separated from conditions.

Exiting the application is required to update, so a dialog asks the user, when an update is found, if they want to exit now. f they do, the code (from the update thread) calls Application.Exit().However, if the FormClosed event of any form that needs to be closed needs to access its controls, an invalid cross-thread operation is detected (which sounds pretty logical).
