Any time I need to store input from a textbox ( ie. "Textbox1.Text" ), I get errors claiming that this is not declared or inaccessible. [Code]. This happens whenever I use Textbox commands.

View 1 RepliesI'm using Try/Catch blocks for a program calculating payroll and commission. I've dim'd my variables, and I've parsed them inside my Try/Catch blocks. It appears as if my Try/Catch blocks have been coded correctly. However when in run-time, my format exceptions will show regardless if I provided a correct input.[code]Is there an issue with my programming? Or could there be a property I'm over-looking for my text boxes? I'm stuck.

For example, I have an triangle area program in wich I ask the user of the program to insert the length of the base and height of the triangle in a textbox. But what if he inserts a letter or something else, like a sign....my program will crash...

I have several text boxes I need to validate. I am not understanding how to validate in Visual Basic 2008. So I deployed standard If Statements to handle bad data. I am having two problems.
Lets say the user entered wrong data, example, numbers; an error message is displayed. The text boxes cannot contain numbers, be left empty or contained characters, like !@#$. The problem is if the user enter text, and then entered a wrong data again the code does not work or display error message. How can I make the conditions so that they throw out error message even if the user had previously entered good data.
Another example: If the user enter good data in text box 1 and bad data in text box 2, the error message does not work.
Finally, how do I filter out characters to allow only text. Is there a way to use this code on multiple text boxes with out writing the entire code for each form control?

For example: There is a textbox and the user puts in their name as Bob. I don't really know why it keep displaying the messagebox that says it failed when I have input the valid strings in the first place.
My objective is to, instead of entering in the data manually into the text boxes, I want to read in a textfile. The Calculate button will contain the code to read in the file and assign it to the appropriate textboxes. Save the separate file in the \bin\Debug folder.

I have a stored procedure that requires a DATETIME variable to display the results in crystal reports. How would I create an input text box and pass the variable to the procedure? Is it even possible to program in vb or C# in crystal reports, or do I need visual studio 2008?

But this doesn't do what I want, naturally. What I want is that my function giveVar returns the value of the variable that holds giveVar. For example I call giveVar("x") I want my function to return "100".
Of course this can be done by a Select Case but thats not what I like to do. Is it even possible to call a value based on a string?

I have two textbox controls and I want to accept input for textbox 1 and textbox 2. However, when user enters text into textbox 1 I would like textbox 2 to mirror the same text as it is typed.
I am sure this is a very simple procedure however it is new to me and I am having trouble finding an answer with search engines. Most result are coming back as text that one can read backwards in a mirror which is not what I am looking for.

I have a .net application that uses customerrors web.config module to display meaningful messages for errors. It works without any issues for 500 errors/exceptions caused by non-ajax and ajax components (updatepanel). However, in a scenario where updatepanel's asynchronous request times out, there is no error raised at all. I was able to see the timeout in firebug and come up with a solution that would at least display the error message as an alert and then redirect the user to the 500 error page using javascript but it's not quite doing what the rest of the application does in case of an unhandled errors like these. I basically just want everything to go through "LogEvent" mechanism so based on the severity of the error, it does the necessary work.This 500 error page doesn't have anything in the Server.GetLastError() for these timeout scenarios. Is this an expected behaviour? Can it be changed so I do have access to these timeouts in Server.GetLastError() OR maybe just run this error through "LogEvent" mechanism? Is there a better/more graceful way to handle this issue?

The coding for the length works(is there a better way to do this)? The coding for the first letter to be A works but then I have no idea how to set validation for any proceeding characters entered. Am i right in thinking I have to find their position somehow in the string if so how?
