Nov 8, 2010We're trying to install this across a school for use by our students. How can I obtain a site licence as the 30 day trial has ran out and VB Express is asking to be reinstalled?

View 3 RepliesI am trying to install VB 2010 Express, but the installation stalls during ENU setup with the message that a certain product must be uninstalled. The product listed is:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 - ENU.
I did try the 2010 Professional but gave up on it. I deleted as many files in those folders as I could. I found the file listed above in the Programs & Features list. When I try to delete it by right click, it opens up a Maintenance Mode Setup wizard. If I follow this it requires me to subscribe to the Professional system, which I don't want to do. I also have run MS Visual Studio 2010 Uninstall Utility, but the new installation stalls at the same place with the same message.
I just installed VisualStudio 2010 Express and Windows phone SDK 7.1. I downloaded Phonegap 1.4 and added the PhoneGapStarter to the projectTemplates folder. When I hit new project I get the Phonegap icon. When I double click it to start a new project I get this error:

If I have Visual Studio C++ Express 2010 installed on my computer, and I decide to install Visual Studio Visual Basic Express 2010 as well, are these actually two independent products that are installed in different places on the machine, or do they share files and folders, or what? I want to install Visual Basic to help my father learn programming, but I already have C++ installed and I don't want to mess up that installation.
View 6 RepliesI have vb.net project (visual studio 2005) and ms-sqlexpress as database. i want to make file set up that contain vb.net exe file and other necessary files and installation of ms-sqlexpress.
View 4 RepliesI'm currently working on a project that populates a database with CAD document info from approx 20 engineers / draftsmen in an engineering office.I have the program functionality working on my computer. However, I would like to install this on the network and begin doing some addiitonal testing and debugging.
I'm unsure about the proper way to install the database and sql server express on the network. My program, which sends the info to the database, will be installed locally on each persons computer. Of course, the database file will be in a location on the network that everyone has access to.I'm assuming I should install the SQL Server Express on the network server as well. How do I setup the server for the SQL express? For example, when I installed it on my computer, the default server name was "Brian-HPSQLSERVER".How do I specify a new server name when installing the software?
I am using VB 2008 express. I created a setup file for installation using the publish command. When I install on another computer, it installs under the documents and settings directory. I want it to install under program files like most other programs.
I've search everywhere on the web for this. The closest thing i could find was talking about the DefaultFolder under the projects applications folder. I don't see that option. I can specify all the publication directories - but these are strictly for where VB creates the setup file at - not where the setup file installs it. Frankly it would be really nice to be able to allow the user to specify the directory as an option, with program files as the default. But for now I'd be happy to just be able to change the default install directory for my app.
How i can make an installation file from a VB project developed in VB express edition 2008?So i can give it to someone and they can install it on their system.
View 1 Repliescan you suggest me a site(which works) for uploading a file using vb express edition 2008.it should be there on the site when i download it.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

c:Program Filesfinished program
I want to publish my program to try it out on another system and I want to ensure its installed in the directory structure I want.
I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. View 1 RepliesI am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
View 7 RepliesI just made an application using MySQL for the database. I use WAMP.Can I combine WAMP and my application installation into one packet installation ?
View 2 RepliesInitially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).

View 4 RepliesI am not sure if this is possiable but I am looking to build an application that will login to a web site, navigate the site and download files. I would like to do this all in code and able to run multiple instances of the program to get information from many different web sites. Is something like this possiable in VB.net?
View 3 RepliesIve got an app that holds a list of site we have, At each site there are a few devices. The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with
Quote:
{"Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute."}
The error flags up on the "Next" line in "ThreadedPing"
Thread stuff
Public Sub ThreadedPing(ByVal dt As DataTable)
Try
Dim dr As DataRow

View 16 RepliesI'm deploying a VB.Net app (VS 2010 Pro) that requiers the user click a command button to open IE to a financial WEB site and download informaion from the site. The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. FileNotFoundException:File Not found. My code behind the button is Shell("C:Program Files (x86)Internet Exploreriexplore.exe www,fidelity.com",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. SpecialFoldder.Desktop) + "File Name). They all work fine when deployed.
In VS 2010, under "Installation folder URL" (under Publish) I have inserted this "\localhostProgram FilesRajoni" - my project name is "Rajoni". Isn't this the path where I want my app to be installed on user computer? Because in my Program Files I don't have anything
View 2 RepliesI'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:
IDE: Visual Studio 2008
Server: Windows 2003 with IIS 6
Language: VB.NET 2.0
i want to know how can i code my button when i click it will open my site ... i Think i was clear.

How can I create a folder on my Application Installation Path upon installing my application?
When you look in the "software" that you have installed you see the size of the software and the version. After I have installed my software I don't see the version in the list. Only the size of the installation. I was wondering how I can change that. Could it be that it is because I used InnoSetup and I need to set it in there or is Windows reading the version of the .exe itself?
