I am trying to install VB 2010 Express, but the installation stalls during ENU setup with the message that a certain product must be uninstalled. The product listed is:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 - ENU.
I did try the 2010 Professional but gave up on it. I deleted as many files in those folders as I could. I found the file listed above in the Programs & Features list. When I try to delete it by right click, it opens up a Maintenance Mode Setup wizard. If I follow this it requires me to subscribe to the Professional system, which I don't want to do. I also have run MS Visual Studio 2010 Uninstall Utility, but the new installation stalls at the same place with the same message.
We're trying to install this across a school for use by our students. How can I obtain a site licence as the 30 day trial has ran out and VB Express is asking to be reinstalled?
I just installed VisualStudio 2010 Express and Windows phone SDK 7.1. I downloaded Phonegap 1.4 and added the PhoneGapStarter to the projectTemplates folder. When I hit new project I get the Phonegap icon. When I double click it to start a new project I get this error:
If I have Visual Studio C++ Express 2010 installed on my computer, and I decide to install Visual Studio Visual Basic Express 2010 as well, are these actually two independent products that are installed in different places on the machine, or do they share files and folders, or what? I want to install Visual Basic to help my father learn programming, but I already have C++ installed and I don't want to mess up that installation.
I have vb.net project (visual studio 2005) and ms-sqlexpress as database. i want to make file set up that contain vb.net exe file and other necessary files and installation of ms-sqlexpress.
I'm currently working on a project that populates a database with CAD document info from approx 20 engineers / draftsmen in an engineering office.I have the program functionality working on my computer. However, I would like to install this on the network and begin doing some addiitonal testing and debugging.
I'm unsure about the proper way to install the database and sql server express on the network. My program, which sends the info to the database, will be installed locally on each persons computer. Of course, the database file will be in a location on the network that everyone has access to.I'm assuming I should install the SQL Server Express on the network server as well. How do I setup the server for the SQL express? For example, when I installed it on my computer, the default server name was "Brian-HPSQLSERVER".How do I specify a new server name when installing the software?
I am using VB 2008 express. I created a setup file for installation using the publish command. When I install on another computer, it installs under the documents and settings directory. I want it to install under program files like most other programs.
I've search everywhere on the web for this. The closest thing i could find was talking about the DefaultFolder under the projects applications folder. I don't see that option. I can specify all the publication directories - but these are strictly for where VB creates the setup file at - not where the setup file installs it. Frankly it would be really nice to be able to allow the user to specify the directory as an option, with program files as the default. But for now I'd be happy to just be able to change the default install directory for my app.
How i can make an installation file from a VB project developed in VB express edition 2008?So i can give it to someone and they can install it on their system.
Running VS2008 working on a customized DotNetNuke version. This issue has come up a couple of times figured I'd see if it's unique to this installation or if it's a IDE bug.
In short I have files that get locked as Readonly and the only way to unlock them is to do a build.
The app I'm working with takes > 60 secs. to build on my box. This error seems to reproduce fairly regularly but you'll need an app that takes a while to build to try it.
During a build try to edit a file.
You should get the error "Cannot currently modify the text in the editor. It is read-only." and a little lock should appear on the tab.
If you wait till the build completes the lock disappears and the file can be edited.
However if instead you cancel the build the file stays Read-Only until such a time as you either restart the IDE or run a build and let it complete.
Looks to me like someone forgot to call the unlock files method in the cancel event handler.
I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.
I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.
Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).
there Dream in Code Community! Im an okay programmer as far as skill right now I am still learning as we all are I need some help from some experienced VB.NET programmers in the community, Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords.
In VS 2010, under "Installation folder URL" (under Publish) I have inserted this "\localhostProgram FilesRajoni" - my project name is "Rajoni". Isn't this the path where I want my app to be installed on user computer? Because in my Program Files I don't have anything
I'm developing software in Windows Vista 32bit using VS Ultimate 2010...I remember back in the day when I was in high school, I could write a program and just share the executable file with some one without any additional software requirements etc. etc.
When you look in the "software" that you have installed you see the size of the software and the version. After I have installed my software I don't see the version in the list. Only the size of the installation. I was wondering how I can change that. Could it be that it is because I used InnoSetup and I need to set it in there or is Windows reading the version of the .exe itself?
I want to ask about problem I had. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel

My app has a folder that has some xml documents which is or should be created within the installation Directory. What is the best / most problem free method to access the installation directory: [code]
I've created a setup project for a VB.NET 2010 application that I've written. The application, and the installer both work fine on my development machine. The installer works fine on other machines, but when I run my application it immediately crashes and dies without telling me anything useful. I've tried it on Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista machines... and all had the same problem, so I think it's more of a package configuration issue than a machine-specific problem. Here's the most useful information that I was able to get out of it:
I have just completed a custom banking & accounting software application for a stingy client who doesnt wants to pay-up! How do i make the application a trail version that will expire in say 30 days, and also ensure that whenever it is installed, it checks for first installation and indicate remaining trial days.
If I create a DLL using VB 2010 express can it be used by previous versions of of .Net (3.5, 2.0)? Will the DLL use .Net 4.0 components, which is what I want. I don't see a way to force that to be the case.
this is my very first posting and I must say I am desperate. I have a VB assignment due in 2 days and I am so lost. I have written a code to draw some graphic, just a basic house, tree, sun etc. I have also written a code to magnify said graphics which were all the specifications of my Assignment 1 part A. Now for Part B I am being asked to extend my program so that: A - My graphic can be drawn using different colour schemes designed by me but chosen by the user B - My graphic or an appropriate part of it can be animated around the picture box if the user chooses to do so. C - Error checking is included.
