VS 2010 Class Library / - If Create A DLL Using VB 2010 Express Can It Be Used By Previous Versions Of Of .Net (3.5 - 2.0)
Aug 19, 2011
If I create a DLL using VB 2010 express can it be used by previous versions of of .Net (3.5, 2.0)? Will the DLL use .Net 4.0 components, which is what I want. I don't see a way to force that to be the case.
I am using visual studio 2010 and tried to create a class library which I then use in an application that will create tasks using the TaskFactory and execute the class functions from the newly created class library. However I get the instance not defined errors in the application.
CLASS LIBRARY: Assembly Name: GPStream Root namespace: TFStream Project with different classes: GPStream: gStream.vb, [Code] .....
I do have it added as a reference. Class library: Assembly name GPStream, Root Namespace GPStream Project name GPStream, Main Class gStream
Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
I'm creating a dll (class library project) file for an OCX. I have an OCX (not Active X, just normal ocx and no need to put on form in order to use it.) which I normally call it from normal windows project's code behind. However, in order to use this OCX, I need to install one software and register with the correct license key.
I was wondering is it possible to put forms into a class library project and if so could I use those forms as an mdi child from my main forms app?A bit behind what I am trying to do:I am creating a game which is essentially going to have its own 'operating system' As the user progresses in the game they can 'install' new software into their operating system.I have my 'Desktop' that is an MDI Parent and what I want the users to be able to do it when they have purchased a new bit of software (also in game) the game will connect to my central server download a dll and place it in a directory, that is essentially installing the new bit of software and the game will then pick up that dll and add a new button the Programs list and when the user clicks on that software in the Programs list it will launch the form in the Class Library as an MDI Child of the 'desktop
I've created a class library and it's shared by several projects I'm working on.
I added a reference to the DLL - but it appears to have copied it locally - and that's causing problems when I modify the class library. Seems I have to drop the reference and re-add it.
I'm seeing info on the web about adding a PROJECT REFERENCE but can't seem to get that to work.
What is the best method of sharing a class library with several other projects.
Actually - should all my projects be in one SOLUTION? Is that preferred.
It will be 5 projects all working with the same class library...
I'm trying to create a DLL with some useful methods and subs for my use. But when I tried declaring an object for Form or using the keyword Screen, Bitmap, etc.. gives an error saying that "The type 'Screen' is not defined" and like that..
In one of my applications, I decided to make a separate project for a few general classes. However, it started to give me tons of errors that I am having a difficult time figuring out.
I have a Visual Basic Class Library project. It generates a DLL. Is there a method to generate a static .LIB to which I can do a static link?Alternatively, can I do a static link against a DLL?
Say I have a Framework 4.0 project that is referencing a class library targeting 3.5. The project will simply not build. It won't give me any valid error message it will just act as though the reference does not exist.
Projects that were working like this in Visual Studio 2008 are no longer working in 2010. Took me forever to figure out what there error is. If I remove the project reference and add it back the intellisense lights up and you can tell a variable referenced in the class library is found. But as soon as you build the project everything is lost. My using statements get underlined, references to the variable all turn grey and project fails to build saying the class cannot be found. Once I make the class library 4.0 as well everything builds. I get the same issue between 4.0 client profile and 4.0 as well.
I'm reasonably familiar with the various forms of VB that existed prior to .NET (VB6, VBA, VBScript...), but have yet to delve into The Sweet New Flavor that is VB.NET.
I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but...I've written my first VB.NET 2008 Express Class Library project (addin dll) and now I need to deploy it. I see Windows Form Applications have a Publsh tab (ClickOnce) in the project properties window but my class library project does not. How do I deploy a VB.NET 2008 Express Class Library project?
I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.
I want to read a number of items from a file and then associate each of those items with a new button at run-time, so that when the user clicks one of the buttons I can display some information about that item. Can I use a LIST to manage these buttons and items? Can I create a new class and have each list item of that class, such as 'btnID', 'btnText', etc... ?
None of the explanation in the forum have worked, even though this has been asked many times.[code]It has been built, and registered with regsvr32. It returns the error message 'Entry point not found'.VBA recognises the Function but cannot run it.
I recently created a deployment project for my windows application in Visual Studio 2008, and have found that changing the "Remove Previous Versions" property to True does absolutely nothing. When clicking the installer, it will say a previous version is installed, then immediately quit.
I am relatively new to VB and want to do the best I can. I am current trying to develop an appointment form using windows form with VB 2010 express and what to know how to create a data file that can store and retrieve data entered into the appointment form. Or any other option in building this software. Since I am still new, please explain in detail.
I've got a chapter I'm supposed to be working through and cannot access the template for a blank solution. My instructions are as follows:From the "File" menu, select "New", select "Project", select "Other Project Types", select "Visual Studio Solutions", and select "Blank Solution."
I can see File, I then see "New Project", but not just "Project". I click on this and my only choices are : Windows Form Application WPF Application Console Application Class Library WPF Browser Application
I've tried searching the installed templates for "Blank Solution", "Solution", "New Solution" and have no results. I've looked around for a couple hours hoping for a way around this and no luck so far.
Is it possible to create a Message Box to delete folders in VB 2010 Express? This is what I have-If MessageBox.Show("Do you want to delete this folder ?", "Enter Title", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo) = DialogResult.Yes Then End If ,modify, delete or add code so that it is possible to delete a certain specified folder?
As an experiment, I created a separate library to hold a function, and then tried to call it from within an application.Normally, would I would expect to see in the code for the function declaration, something like this:Public Function MyFunction Alias "MyFunction" (ByVal X As Long) Export As LongVB uses the regular convention:
I want to create a class that will "search" for something. Basically I load up the "search item" when the class is created and inside the class is logic to do the "search". The result of this logic will be more "searches" that I want to start. How can I have the logic in the class create another instance of the class itself?
Where can I see an example to print a formal (aligned) report with data that I have in an array[100,5]ypical example: a payroll report with the columns "NAME", "ADDRESS", NUMBER OF HOURS, SALAR PER HOUR", TOTAL SALARY
I have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?
I'm writing an Excel file recovery program with VB.Net that tries to be a convenient place to gather and access Microsoft's recommended methods. If your interested in my probably kludgy, error filled, and lacking enough cleanup code it's here: http:[url]..... The basic functionality seems to work although I haven't tested graph macro table recovery yet.
It occurred to me that Vista and Windows 7 users could benefit from being offered a list of previous versions of the file within my application if the Shadow Copy Service is on and there are previous copies. How do I do this?I looked at a lot of web pages but found no easy to crib code. One possibility I guess would be to use vssadmin via the shell but that is pretty cumbersome. I just want to display a dialogue box like the Previous Versions property sheet and allow users to pick one of the previous versions. I guess I could just display the previous version property sheet via the shell by programmatically invoking the context menu and the "Restore previous versions choice", however I also want to be able to offer the list for Vista Home Basic and Premium Users who don't have access to that tab even though apparently the previous versions still exist. Additionally if it possible I would like to offer XP users the same functionality although I'm pretty sure with XP only the System files are in the shadow copies.
I looked at MSDN on the Shadow Copy Service and went through all the pages, I also looked at AlphaVSS and AlphaFS and all the comments. I'm kind of guessing that I need to use AlphaVss and AlphFS and do the following?Find out the list of snapshots/restore points that exist on the computer.Mount those snapshots.Navigate in the mounted volumes to the Excel file the user wants to recover and make a list of those paths. With the list of paths handy, compare with some kind of diff program, the shadow copies of the files with the original.Pull out the youngest or oldest version (I don't think it matters) of those shadow copies that differ from the recovery target.List those versions of the files that are found to be different. This seems cumbersome and slow, but maybe is the fastest way to do things. I just need some confirmation that is the way to go now.
In VS2010 I'm encountering a PInvokeStackImbalance error when I call an unmanaged C function that takes a string argument. This only happens in VS2010 (works fine in earlier versions of vs). I know the MDA is more strict in VS2010 but I can't seem to figure out what the actual problem is.
Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).
I hear COM here and there and I want to know is COM and a COM dll the same thing, and most important: when I create a Class library project is that a COM component?
I am trying to create a DLL from a class library in Visual Basic.
First I created a new Project in Visual Basic Express 2010 as a class library. Then I added a class which contains a function that I want to access in another program. This is why I want to export the class library as a DLL. In visual studio I am compiling the project which refreshes the saved dll in the bin folder of the project directory. When I open this dll or include it as a reference in another executable visual basic project, it does not find the function. how to generate a dll from a visual basic class library properly?
Here is the code of the class stored in the class library project:
Public Class Test Public erg As String Public Shared Function fTest(ByVal in As String, ByRef out As String) As Boolean
