Create Blank Solution VB 2010 Express?

May 5, 2012

I've got a chapter I'm supposed to be working through and cannot access the template for a blank solution. My instructions are as follows:From the "File" menu, select "New", select "Project", select "Other Project Types", select "Visual Studio Solutions", and select "Blank Solution."

I can see File, I then see "New Project", but not just "Project". I click on this and my only choices are :
Windows Form Application WPF Application Console Application Class Library WPF Browser Application

I've tried searching the installed templates for "Blank Solution", "Solution", "New Solution" and have no results. I've looked around for a couple hours hoping for a way around this and no luck so far.

VB 2010 Express - Create A Simple Local Data File On PC Using Mysql

Jul 15, 2010

I have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?

Asp.net - How To Create A Blank Chart In .net 4

Sep 6, 2011

I've got a working chart (ASP.NET/VB.NET), over some selected periods of time it has no data, this is expected. When I select a period of time where there is no data I get no chart displayed, just a rectangle of the background colour of the chart.

What I want is to still display the titles, x and y axes etc when there is no data, just an empty chart.

I toyed with the idea of adding a data point outside the time scale of the chart and this worked, I then got an empty graph, but there must be a cleaner way to achieve this.

.net - Create A Solution Explorer Like Visual Studio?

Jul 16, 2010

I want to be able to create a tree view that can get its nodes form a directory on a computer. In the code below, I am able to get all of the files into a list, but I cannot get the folder correct. What I mean is in your user directory, you have sub directorys such as, Documents, Music, and Pictures. When you run this code, it displays them each as thier own node, not nested. I hope this makes sense.

Changed the code to the way spinion told me to. When I run this code I get an error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' when it starts to try and add files to the tree view.

Create A Blank Image In A Picturebox?

I'm using this snippet to create a blank image in a picturebox, but is it possible to have the image coloured so that I can see it. (I'll need to colour it later anyway).

.Image = New Bitmap(newPictureBox.Width, newPictureBox.Height) 'blank image.

Also if it is possible, I intend to draw lines, rectangles on the image (hopefully) and save the lot, so would I lose the colour, or would it get saved, or does it depend on what it gets saved as?

How Create Multiple Blank Text Files

Feb 28, 2012

I am running batch jobs on a job scheduler. One of the step is called 6 times so that we can execute the step parallely (to utilize the max server resource and to execuet the step in less than 2 hours rather 6hours). At the end of each instance it has to create a text file (6 instances = 6 text files) and the next job in the queue only runs when it could find all six files,

I am trying to create 6 dummy text files using vb.net.

1. to create a text file like file1.txt, when each instance of the step is completed running and it should exit the code after a file is create.

2. In this manner the code is executed 6 times and it must produce 6 files like file1.txt ....... file6.txt.

right know the maximum code i could write was ( and this is not correct)

Public
Function CopyFile1()

Integer

Unhandled SqlException In VB 2010 Express Thta Does Not Occur In VB 2008 Express?

Oct 16, 2010

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."

I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).

Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. (VB 2010 Express - Bug In VB 2010 Express Working With Excel?

Jun 3, 2011

Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.

run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).

.net - Fork A VS 2010 VB Solution?

How do I make a fork in the application for this purpose? Google has been no help in this case, and I've tried several incarnations of copy and change names etc etc.

VS 2010 Looking For A More Elegant Solution

Jun 21, 2011

I am creating a card game and although I have a solution to my question it feels very forced and awkward.
What I want to be able to do is to iterate through a collection but not necessarily start at the begnining or stop at the end.

Some details/examples. Imagine a game (I'll mentally use Spades) with 4 players.

Player 1 Deals cards to all 4 players which makes Player 2 the first to bid. The rub is that after player 4 bids, player 1 should then get his turn to bid.

Player 1 <-- Dealer
Player 2 <-- First to bid
Player 3
Player 4

I can't just iterate over the collection because a For each p as Player in Players would never make it back to player 1 to allow him to bid. As I said, I can make it work with some nested loops but I'm hoping someone might have a better solution. It certainly feels like there must be one. I run into more of the same as the deal moves around the table and as tricks are taken. If a more detailed example is needed, feel free to let me know.

VS 2010 Adding C# Project To Solution

I've added a C# project to my VB.NET solution and I'm trying to access all of the classes and namespaces within that C# project. However, I'm not having any luck. I've never had to do this before, so I'm a bit lost. After adding the project, I tried importing the namespace from it. When I do, I just get the green squiggly telling me that the namespace doesn't have any public members or couldn't be found.Since it does have public members, I'm assuming it's the latter issue. So is there anything I need to do in order to access besides just adding it?

Dim dt As DataTable

Dim newrow As DataRow = dt.NewRow()
newrow(0) = 1100
dt.Rows.Add(newrow)

The error occurs on the line where dt.NewRow() is used. The problem occurs when the datatable (and the datagrid) is empty. If they have data, this works ok.What do I have to do to get this to work with empty datagrids?
