I need to copy data using Vb.net if possible from one excel spreadworbook to another and place the data into the correct columns in the existing excel spreadsheet. The column titles of the spreadsheets match up, I have several templates I need to place data into and the order of the columns is different in each template so I need a way of searching for a column header in the template and then copying the data into that column.

I'm getting ready to learn about the data models available, and am having trouble navigating the info I find.Is it best to develop the data within the SQL CE environment, or does that require the end-user to download additional libraries/programs? My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? I need to open a form on top of the form of another application, that is, making the other applications form its parent. The title on the applications form can change, so searching for the form by name won't work.
I'm also curious, can you start a vb express application without opening its form? Like in Vb5/6 you could start in Sub_Main?
I have created a picturebox in a form that I want to click on and then it would send me to a excel file that I already have created. I don't know if it is even possible. Do I need to use a button instead?, or am I just way off all together.
View 2 RepliesHow to create an instance of a form if it is not know in advance which formtype has to be opened. If you want to skip the chitchat: the .NET code example is at the end of this post. First the Symantec: when we create a new form, this form has a name. If we refer to that name, we actually refer to the name of the type of object that is just created. When to use of course when reading the subject you might think: why not just pass the form to a parameter that takes a form (or control/object)?
The answer is: you don't when it is not sure, when or if a new instance of the object has to be created or, as mentioned, when the procedure is called it is not known which class has to be created. You could of course hold a bunch of created objects, but that would be a shameless misuse of memory. Imagine the following scenario (seen something like this in a post, but can't find it anymore):
You have a class that is able to trap an event, say the doubleclick of a textbox, and has to open a form when it occurs. If it's always the same form, that's easy, but what if you want it to be determined during runtime? This is a quite common story: doubleclick on article opens the detail form of that article, doubleclick on supllier opens that particular form. If you use a form variable, how do you say to the class which form should be opened? This will not work

I'm trying to create an application that will allow me to type a search term, corresponding to any field contained in a database, and have the results displayed in a datagrid view. The idea is that the application will display any records that have the search term in any of the fields, rather than just allowing the user to search based on one field only.
I keep getting an error on the dataAdapter.Fill(dt) line. I've tried reorganising lines of code just in case my logic was wrong, but the result is the same. The program just crashes when it reaches this line.

I found a code that I believe does this but I'm getting error messages. The error message I am getting is: "cmbMovies not declared" and "CONN_STRING not declared". I'm trying to create my own type of spider/search engine thing for fun. I start with a URL, then grab the HTML ...from that I have a REGEX that is supposed to pull out all the links. I figured I would randomly pick one of those and keep going as I save the HTML to my database.[URL]...You can see that I get some real URLS and sometimes I get back some that are not. NOW I return these to a RichTextBox and on the REAL URLs, these get formatted in blue and make a HAND icon when you float over them. This makes me believe that something SOMEWHERE knows that these are good url's. That would be a good thing to tap into so that I could get rid of everything in that box that is not a real URL.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on my first Visual basic program and I've hit a snag. I want to make a working search form that pulls data from an access database that i already have linked into my visual basic program.
Basically when they click search, i wan't it to check the textbox (lets say firstName.text box for now) for there name, then find all the entries in my database that have those names and display them in a grid.
What is the best way to set the default value for 'bit' or boolean data types in SQL express? I am using the data base explorer in VB Express 2008 and the only way I seem to be able to do it is by using ((0)) for false and ((1)) for true.

I have the information ans some other data successfully exporting to a text document but would like to have just the latency data also go into an excel spreadsheet for easier analysis. I have a Search web reference (from a Search Server 2010 express install) in a vb.net application that is utilizing the QueryService Class to search a production Sharepoint foundation 2010 site.At a previous point in time, we had created a proof of concept on an entirely test system that has since been turfed. From my recollection on this test system when documents were uploaded as a specific site content type (that inherits from document) and metadata was provided, we could search for specific metadata by making managed properties for each, and search results would be returned as documents (with the isdocument flag set to true). Viewing the document then became simple, as we could simply use the filename and path to display the stored file.Now we are developing a production system and we have encountered a new behavior, where these results now are returned as aspx results such as

This of course makes it terribly difficult to locate and view the document, we can extract the Title which will then give us the name of the file with no extension, but that hardly helps, as the FileExtension data is aspx, not the documents file extension, so we don't have a full filename. We could display the page returned as a result, but would much prefer the document itself.
I've made a test document library, with just bare bones setup, (not using the site content type, or site columns) and uploaded some documents on the same site, and they are returned in the same fashion, so I don't believe the document library, or content type are the issue.
With a fairly limited understanding of both Sharepoint and Search Server, I don't know if this is a setup issue with the search service itself, with the site configuration, or with the querypacket I am sending. We also have a third party application (Knowledgelake) installed on the server that ties into sharepoint which could have changed configuration somewhere as well?
I don't think the query packet has changed since it was working in the proof of concept, other than the custom data column names. I will provide it here in case there is something glaringly obvious to an external reader.

I am looking for the code to consolidate multiple .xls sheets from within multiple work books in a file all containing the same format of information. Each sheet needs to be coppied to a new sheet within a single work book.
Once in a single sheet I need to then copy data from a range of fields into one consolidated sheet.
Is there a better way to make a form with multiple buttons opening different things than having a form that has lots group boxes for each tab. So in the begining each box will be invisible and when you click the button the corresponding group box will become visible. Is there any other way?It will be like a background image and it'll have buttons that will mask it with invisible buttons. when the button is clicked it will open the corresponding group box.

View 1 RepliesWhat I want to do is have data rows on the first sheet that is basically a master list, then have the sheets behind it display the data rows that meet a given critera.For example, sheet 1 column 1 has a person's name, column 2 their phone number, column 3 their address. Column 4 has 'M' or 'F' designating wether they are male or female. I would then like to open sheet 2 and all the entries marked with 'M' are automatically produced and display all the information for each person. I also need to "change the gender" of the person and these changes are also automatically changed on sheet 2. I'm guessing it may be a combination of filtering and macros but have no idea how to execute it
View 2 RepliesMy app is a fairly simple and im sure with the right knowledge this would take 2 minutes.. but sadly iv been at it for hours. So my scenario here is a huge network with 20+ file servers all with data spread out across them it can take hours to find the folder required.
Hence this app.. so it consist of a input box, progress bar and a button, using FileSystemObject I plan to interrogate a directory to see if a folder exists (folder specified by user input) however it need to check multiple directories, in my old app I used a list box which wrote to a text file allowing the user to add additional directories then using if statements proceeded through the servers.. however they have added that much that my IF's have ran out really because i know it should have been a loop

I am trying to write a class to implement search as you type. e.g. a form has a textbox and a listbox. Each time the textbox text changes, the list is the list box is filtered accordingly. E.g entering "ha" in the textbox would cause the filtered listbox to display 'I plan on implemtneting a sayt class.(see example below)
The thing I am having problems is working out how the two controls will 'talk 'to each other.
e..g when the textchanged event fires for the textbox, how does a sayt object 'know' that it needs to refilter the listbox?

I am making a simulation of windows loading,Ive made it show the startup screen (startup.vb) and ive got the login screen (login.vb), how can I make it stay at the startup screen for a few seconds before using the startup.show() command.( if I can use that command?)
