Create Own Type Of Spider/search Engine Thing For Fun?
Mar 22, 2009
I'm trying to create my own type of spider/search engine thing for fun. I start with a URL, then grab the HTML ...from that I have a REGEX that is supposed to pull out all the links. I figured I would randomly pick one of those and keep going as I save the HTML to my database.[URL]...You can see that I get some real URLS and sometimes I get back some that are not. NOW I return these to a RichTextBox and on the REAL URLs, these get formatted in blue and make a HAND icon when you float over them. This makes me believe that something SOMEWHERE knows that these are good url's. That would be a good thing to tap into so that I could get rid of everything in that box that is not a real URL.
i'm working on a application whereby there is a keyboard which is create on FLASH. So i implement it into vb.net. So everytime i click on 'A', it will go into the database and search for all the stuff that contain 'A' and display on the flash textbox. If i type 'An', i will appear all the stuff in a Flash textbox. Just like yahoo, when you type 'An' there will have a downdrop appearing all the words that starts, end or inbetween have 'An'.
one of the BIG hurdles in my simple project, making a search engine. I don't know how at all. The search engine need only to search in one Directory with its sub directories and txt files for criteria, and display the results, with option open from the results. any basic code or example maybe?
I have a search Option in my Project i want to search File with any thing Matching
Supposly : I have a File With the name "nokia samsung" And user type "Samsung" in Search TextBox and if User type "nokiasamsung" then my application also able to Understand. What my Code i cant make a Figure
I have a search engine that is supposed to search through descriptions of products and then will display something with a list of products that have whichever word(s) or phrase the user was looking for. I haven't made any kind of list for the products that use the description though.
I just need to figure out why my SELECT statement isn't doing anything. It's either that or the For Each loop.
This is what I have:
Public Function GetDescriptions(ByVal prefixText As String, ByVal count As Integer) As String() Dim MarketingSql As String = "Select MarketingID, MarketingType, MarketingData
I'm trying to create an application that will allow me to type a search term, corresponding to any field contained in a database, and have the results displayed in a datagrid view. The idea is that the application will display any records that have the search term in any of the fields, rather than just allowing the user to search based on one field only.
I keep getting an error on the dataAdapter.Fill(dt) line. I've tried reorganising lines of code just in case my logic was wrong, but the result is the same. The program just crashes when it reaches this line.
My code is:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub AuthorsBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AuthorsBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click Me.Validate()
ok say you have 5 listboxes and you want it so that they are kinda docked to the bottom so that when you resize the window they expand downward but not sideways
I always search over the internet for while programming even for small matter. Is this bad habit? Do programmers search over net for frequently or not? If yes then which search engine they use mostly?
I'm trying to create a search textbox that will bring up titles as I type them. For instance, when I start typing D..all titles that begin with "D" will appear in drop down menu. I found a code that I believe does this but I'm getting error messages. The error message I am getting is: "cmbMovies not declared" and "CONN_STRING not declared". I created a DataSource named cmbMovies and it did not solve the problem. Am I looking at this correctly? Here is the
Imports System Imports System.Configuration Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class Form1
I have a system on my webbrowser that allows the user to choose their Search Engine out of a selection I organized. the down point is that I have it set so when they click save it will just hide, because if it closes the settings will be reset and not saved. However I want them to save. Here are my codes to the search button:
Private Sub Search_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Search.Click If SearchEngines.RadioButton1.Checked Then CType(TabControl1.SelectedTab.Controls.Item(0), WebBrowser).Navigate("http:www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=" & SearchBar.Text & "&btnG=Google+Search&meta=")
[code]....
This is the code of save:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Me.Hide() End Sub
I would like it so it saves when the whole program is closed, so when they start up it's automatically set so they can search on their favourite search engine.
writing a search engine for my database. I use Visual Vasic 6.0 Express Edition and i have a database which i want to be connected to a search engine. Can any1 teach me how to write the code?
Is it possible to build a search engine to use on a DVD that contains Word documents, text documents, etc.? Say I wanted to find all documents with the name "James" in them. In the search box I would type "James", and it would return the results of everywhere James is found. Or suppose I wanted to find all Land Deeds where James is found, is that possible? All search engine examples that I have seen on VB Help has to do with databases, and I guess to an extent, my DVD would be the database.
Ran into a problem. My for loop seems to stop after just for the task. I can't seem how to get it to continue on, I've used this type of loop many times and have never had this problem.
I m writing my first ever application.I want to make a data search engine exactly same as the excel sheet has.The search form is a owned form and has one combobox to specify the search criteria that in which column of the database table i want to search and a textbox to write the search item. What i want is when i type 'A' in the textbox and click the findAll button the search result should display the first matched record in the textbox of owner form and then if i click findNext button the search result should display the next matched record.Same like excel Find and Replace Window.
I'm writing a program that will be searching files for the user and I need to find a good method to do so. Obviously it will need to filter the search to try to get the best result possible.

I'm trying to create a small paint component( similar to MSpaint but not the same thing) in vb.net.I have a panel that holds the background image and a picturebox over the panel that I draw on. I'm using graphics to draw shapes and I have my own custom double buffer, meaning that I draw on the picturebox while the mouse ismoving and on mouse up I draw the final image on the buffer image and on paint event the buffer image replaces the picturebox image.also, i have set the form properties to enable double buffering
my problem is that no matter what i've tried the picture box keeps flickering. as long as the mouse is moving, the paint event keeps getting called and the image flickers like crazy what i need is more ideas(or pseudocode) on how to avoid flickering.
It looks to me like a reference error yet all Crystal reference are included. I have set up a test program and this work fine. Yet when I run this in my main program I get this error. This is trying to run a Crystal Report. I know this is Crystal but I don't think it is an error or issue with Crystal I think it is more related to the the set up of the program.
I want my application to be able to communicate 2-way between the application on another computer and the host server which will be running on my computer.I want to use the BackgroundWorker built into vb to create a thing to make it listen for incoming messages, and also send out messages to the client. The client needs to listen and receive, same as the server, because both need to communicate with one another.I do not know how I can make it do either sending nor receiving.I would be using two different background workers to keep the code seperated and organized so that I will understand what code is for what.
I want the code to say that if i receive the message "Apple" without the "" and cap sensitive, then it will change Label1.Text = "That worked, word received Apple" or something similar to that. ( This is because I am ignorant and I want it to interpret the text sent through to figure out what the application is supposed to do, and last time I couldn't figure out how to make it do something when a certain text was received.
I'm working on a spider bot and hit a snag in the last function?'This function navigates the web browser control to the entered URL.'It wait till the document is loaded completely into the browser control by testing the ready state of the web browser control. 'Then it returns the web browser document.
Private Function Navigate2WebPage(ByVal URL As String, ByVal TimeoutInterv As TimeSpan) As HTMLDocument Dim T1, T2 As Date Dim Interv As TimeSpan Try

the problem lies with "SHDocVw.tagREADYSTATE.READYSTATE_COMPLETE" I an example of it on the net and it works in the sample app but not in mine. It won't compile because it says "Name ShDocvw is not declared" and i've searched through the example app and can't find it "declared" anywhere. I had a look at the designer generated code and found
2003 - Friend WithEvents AxWebBrowser1 As AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser 2005 - Friend WithEvents WebBrowser1 As System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser
what is a AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser? Now i've done some searching and found that apparently "SHDocVw.tagREADYSTATE.READYSTATE_COMPLETE" no longer works in 2005.
