Use The BackgroundWorker Built Into VB To Create A Thing To Make It Listen For Incoming Messages?

I want my application to be able to communicate 2-way between the application on another computer and the host server which will be running on my computer.I want to use the BackgroundWorker built into vb to create a thing to make it listen for incoming messages, and also send out messages to the client.The client needs to listen and receive, same as the server, because both need to communicate with one another.I do not know how I can make it do either sending nor receiving.I would be using two different background workers to keep the code seperated and organized so that I will understand what code is for what.
I want the code to say that if i receive the message "Apple" without the "" and cap sensitive, then it will change Label1.Text = "That worked, word received Apple" or something similar to that. ( This is because I am ignorant and I want it to interpret the text sent through to figure out what the application is supposed to do, and last time I couldn't figure out how to make it do something when a certain text was received.

I am working on an assignment whereby i am requested to receive incoming messages via a gsm modem, i have tried to do so by writing at commands to the serial port where the gsm modem is connected to but there's one specific line which gives me error when i tried writing it to the serial port, (AT+CMGL= "ALL") which returns me an error: CMS ERROR: 305 which means Invalid Text mode parameter The following is the codes i have done up to so far, can anyone tell me what is the correct way to write this specific line to the serial port or is there any other methods that is able to do the same thing?[code]...

I am using sockets to send message between computers. I send the messages alright. What I want is when the message "x0x" comes, the client must be closed within 5 minutes. Teh admin can cancel the request by sending message "-xx" as well. The routine that checks for incoming connections and accepts messages uses WHILE TRUE...END WHILE since it must always listen. Once I get a message, I need to fire a timer control or other that fires within 5 minutes. But the program cant leave the WHILE TRUE at all. If i exit it early, the timer fires and the program does get exit. How do I fire the timer or other routine while still the WHILE TRUE routine checks for incomin connections and messages?

A few years ago I have been busy creating this application but it didn't succeed, now Im coming back to it and similar problems occur. Basically I use SetPixel on a given window to draw a line, work fine, but the line goes away as the window redraws itself.The problem: I have been putting timers and threads on it to make sure the line is being drawn. Is there any way to make a loop to make a certain thing happen about 10-30 times without taking in too much memory/CPU?

Here is the scenario: On port 5060 is a SIP-based softphone, it is listening for incoming calls. i was wondering if theres a way to make an if command apply to more than one thing, this is my problem: theres 9 white squares and if theres one or more thats orange, then a numer.text goes down one but at the moment theres 9 white squares and for every one thats orange the score goes down one, so if three are orange then the score goes down by three, or if five are orange then the score goes down by five, I'd like to make it so that even if there all nine the score only goes down by one.

I'm trying to create my own type of spider/search engine thing for fun. I start with a URL, then grab the HTML ...from that I have a REGEX that is supposed to pull out all the links. I figured I would randomly pick one of those and keep going as I save the HTML to my database.[URL]...You can see that I get some real URLS and sometimes I get back some that are not. NOW I return these to a RichTextBox and on the REAL URLs, these get formatted in blue and make a HAND icon when you float over them. This makes me believe that something SOMEWHERE knows that these are good url's. That would be a good thing to tap into so that I could get rid of everything in that box that is not a real URL.

I'm trying to create a small paint component( similar to MSpaint but not the same thing) in vb.net.I have a panel that holds the background image and a picturebox over the panel that I draw on. I'm using graphics to draw shapes and I have my own custom double buffer, meaning that I draw on the picturebox while the mouse ismoving and on mouse up I draw the final image on the buffer image and on paint event the buffer image replaces the picturebox image.also, i have set the form properties to enable double buffering

my problem is that no matter what i've tried the picture box keeps flickering. as long as the mouse is moving, the paint event keeps getting called and the image flickers like crazy what i need is more ideas(or pseudocode) on how to avoid flickering.

I had an idea to embed a PDF document into my application somehow.The PDF is a copy of the user manual. I expect that the file will be around 20 KB. This way, if people don't distribute the PDF with my app, they can extract it whenever they need to.

I have a server which has around 300+ users on it. Though the problem is that its coded in VB6, and if somebody has a bad ping, everybody has a bad ping. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.

I'm trying to make a simple program that keeps track of a list of phone directories. It offers the option of adding new names to the directory and deleting names already stored.I want the program to display a small unobtrusive message when a name is added or removed.For example, a label that shows "James Potter added to directory..."and then disappears after a few secondsGoing through th file mentions the timer but it seems like an awfully long winded way involving a new control and a new subroutine for every single timed event. Working on a project that tests up to 16 PC boards. The test routines are on a a backgroundworker thread. I want each PC board to perform the test routine on its own thread, so I would need up to 16 backgroundworkers.How do I go by doing this? Do I put 16 Backgroundworkers on the form? I tried to do it programmatically but I can't declare an array of backgroundworkers because withevents variables can't be typed as arrays. I guess I just need a kick in the right direction.

I want to make a program to encrypt and decrypt messages using a word cipher or random lettering(no duplicate letters) etc.

input text and keyword box

I have a VB.net project which uses a background worker to do some stuff.
Now I want to expand the project to be able to do multiple stuff :)
A user can enter an URL in a textbox and when the user click on the parse button the program creates a new tabcontrol a outputs some data.
I use a hardcoded background worker for this.
But now I want to run multiple background workers to do this stuff so I can't rely on hard coding the background worker(s).
Is it possible to create background workers dynamically.
how to set this up since I think I need to set up the different methods and variables like:

I'm trying to create an app with a backgroundworker to enable canceling a loop, but it won't work as I hoped it would.When I debug right after the line ThreadWorker.RunWorkerAsync() the programm goes directly to Private Sub ThreadWorker_RunWorkerCompleted and skips the Private Sub ThreadWorker_DoWork part, where of course the actual code is in (I've left that code out, it's about a 100 lines and without BGW it works).Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with it?
