Create A Backgroundworker Array Or Collection?

Oct 17, 2008

Working on a project that tests up to 16 PC boards. The test routines are on a a backgroundworker thread. I want each PC board to perform the test routine on its own thread, so I would need up to 16 backgroundworkers.How do I go by doing this? Do I put 16 Backgroundworkers on the form? I tried to do it programmatically but I can't declare an array of backgroundworkers because withevents variables can't be typed as arrays. I guess I just need a kick in the right direction.

Pass Collection Of Objects To BackgroundWorker?

Nov 19, 2010

I have an object of type Dictionary(Of Int16, Polygon) and which contains sometimes up to 15 or so Polygons that i am creating bitmap files with the Polygon. This can take like 20 seconds sometimes so i was trying to pass the full Dictionary to background worker as an argument but i get an issue when trying to access each individual Polygon inside of the Dictionary because the Polygons still belong to the UI thread. How can I access the Polygons inside the Dictionary with the backgroundworker?

Dim worker As New BackgroundWorker
AddHandler worker.DoWork, AddressOf MeasurePolygons
AddHandler worker.RunWorkerCompleted, AddressOf WorkerCompleted
worker.RunWorkerAsync(PolygonCollection)

that is how im calling the thread. PolygonCollection is the Dictionary(Of Int16, Polygon) that contains all the polygons that i will be creating a bitmap file out of.

Backgroundworker - Dynamically Create A Background Worker?

Jun 16, 2011

I have a VB.net project which uses a background worker to do some stuff.

Now I want to expand the project to be able to do multiple stuff :)

A user can enter an URL in a textbox and when the user click on the parse button the program creates a new tabcontrol a outputs some data.

I use a hardcoded background worker for this.

But now I want to run multiple background workers to do this stuff so I can't rely on hard coding the background worker(s).

Is it possible to create background workers dynamically.

how to set this up since I think I need to set up the different methods and variables like:

Private bw As BackgroundWorker = New BackgroundWorker
bw.WorkerReportsProgress = True
bw.WorkerSupportsCancellation = True

[Code]....

I think I need to declare the background workers in some sort of array like variable (list / dictionary)??? Other then that I have no idea how to tackle this.

Create An App With A Backgroundworker To Enable Canceling A Loop?

Feb 22, 2009

I'm trying to create an app with a backgroundworker to enable canceling a loop, but it won't work as I hoped it would.When I debug right after the line ThreadWorker.RunWorkerAsync() the programm goes directly to Private Sub ThreadWorker_RunWorkerCompleted and skips the Private Sub ThreadWorker_DoWork part, where of course the actual code is in (I've left that code out, it's about a 100 lines and without BGW it works).Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with it?

Use The BackgroundWorker Built Into VB To Create A Thing To Make It Listen For Incoming Messages?

Mar 13, 2008

I want my application to be able to communicate 2-way between the application on another computer and the host server which will be running on my computer.I want to use the BackgroundWorker built into vb to create a thing to make it listen for incoming messages, and also send out messages to the client.The client needs to listen and receive, same as the server, because both need to communicate with one another.I do not know how I can make it do either sending nor receiving.I would be using two different background workers to keep the code seperated and organized so that I will understand what code is for what.

I want the code to say that if i receive the message "Apple" without the "" and cap sensitive, then it will change Label1.Text = "That worked, word received Apple" or something similar to that. ( This is because I am ignorant and I want it to interpret the text sent through to figure out what the application is supposed to do, and last time I couldn't figure out how to make it do something when a certain text was received.

.NET XML Web Service Returned Collection As An Array?

Mar 21, 2012

I am working with an XML web service using VB.NET, created using VS 2010. One of my web methods returns a collection(type that inherits from list) of custom objects. It's a simple return statement, it is my understanding that .NET handles most of the tricky protocol stuff as well as serializing/unserialzing of objects.

The issue is in my consuming application when I get the the return value of the web method that returns a custom collection I get an array of the custom objects. Is this normal behavior? It will be easy enough for me to take that array and insert it into a custom collection object but if I could I would like to skip this step.

VS 2008 - Two Dimensional Array / List Or Collection

Jan 29, 2010

Is it possible to have a two-dimensional array/list/collection such as the following. The first dimension is to have 2 elements, 0 and 1. The second dimension I would like to be able to have a different number of elements for each of the elements in the first dimension. To explain better, I'd like X in array (0, X) to go up to say 4 and Y in array(1, Y) to only go up to say 2.

So there would be:
array(0,0)
array(0,1)
array(0,2)
array(0,3)
array(0,4)
array(1,0)
array(1,1)
array(1,2)
But no array(1,3) or array(1,4).

I'd also need to be able to use Redim Preserve to increase the size of the second dimension for each of the first dimension's elements.

VS 2008 Dgv Detail Text Box To Array Or Collection?

Jun 20, 2011

I have a parameterized query that displays the info (name, phone number, email addy) in detailed text boxes vice a normal DGV. I have coded a button to open outlook and populate the email address, but what I would like to do is have the user click another button that would add each email address into an array or collection from the desired records. Then, when they added all desired recipients to this "collection" they would hit the email button, which would open up outlook with the To: box already populated.*

I have looked into dynamic arrays , generic and special collections but am not sure what the best way forward is. When using the dynamic arrays I didn't really get anywhere, I couldn't seem to figure out how to redim with each addition of an email address.

Dim emaillist() As String
Dim listings As Double
Dim addy As String
