C# - Most Optimized/effective Way To Convert A Collection Into An Array?
Jul 6, 2010
I have a collection which I wish to retrieve an array from in .NET 2.0. In other words, I want to convert a collection into an array. So far I have the following:
Public Class Set(Of T)
Implements IEnumerable(Of T)
Implements ICollection(Of T[code]....

I tried this
vb
Dim matches As String() = Regex.Matches(tmpFieldContent, strEmail).Cast(Of Match)().ToArray()
But it didn't work, as vb says
'Cast' is not a member of System.Text.RegularExpressions.MatchCollection'.

I need to convert a VB Collection to a modern one, like Dictionary or Hashtable. For my approach, I need the Collection's KEYS. Googling tells me that it's impossible. Re-writing the entire application using new collections is not an option as the application is really old and large (converted from VB6 to VB.Net).Using the old Collection also is not good - as there are new components in development.Converting a - for example - Hashtable to Collection works:
using VBCollection = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection;
public static VBCollection ToVBCollection(this Hashtable table)
{

Whenever I decide to make a utility in VB.NET, I always end up writing a class like this one. I'm using it in an Explorer-like listview, and while I know it works, I have no idea (or experience) with coding for minimal overhead, speed, and precision. So I would like to know what I can do to optimize it.

The following snip of simple code runs pretty slow on my computer, and I suspect that it is due to excessive memory usage, since the program reports using >1GB mem according to TaskManager. Am I using the DataGridView in a wrong way? Instructions: Make a windowsforms application and put 2x button and 1xDataGridView on it. Push button1 and then button2 - sort the data in the DataGridView by a different col and push button2 again. It'll go above 1GB mem usage! Basically I need to display a lot of data to a user and allow the user to sort the data and generate something from them.
Public Class Form1
Public dt As DataTable
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
dt = New DataTable

I am trying to convert a collection to a string. When I am done, it should look like String() = {"File1.Tif", "File2.Tif", "File3.tif", "MergeTiffImages.Tif}. Here is what I have so far.
Dim FileArray(0) As String
Dim Count1 As Integer
Count1 = 0
For Each k In S
ReDim Preserve FileArray(Count1)
FileArray(Count1) = """" & k & """"
Count1 = Count1 + 1
Next
FileArray(Count1) = """MergedTiffFile.Tif"""
I am getting the error "Index was outside the bounds of the array." because FileArray is a string and not an array.

In debug mode I get into a line that evaluates to false because the expression cannot be evaluated because of "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized." Program does not assert or error out. If Item.Length then . . . (Here when I hover the mouse it displays "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized"). What interesting is that it only occurs in one of .vb files.BTW, I'm programming in Compact Framework.

I found what seems to be an easy and effective way to reduce the memory consumption of my vb.net app. What I need to know is how "correct" or "proper" is the method I'm using for my application and what exactly is going on behind the scenes that I should worry about? I want to release memory every time a form closes. Here is how I reduce the required memory of my program:[code...]

How do I declare and add a dynamically sized array to the class. I know that I will have to use the UBound function each time I want to add a new array.

I am working with an XML web service using VB.NET, created using VS 2010. One of my web methods returns a collection(type that inherits from list) of custom objects. It's a simple return statement, it is my understanding that .NET handles most of the tricky protocol stuff as well as serializing/unserialzing of objects.
The issue is in my consuming application when I get the the return value of the web method that returns a custom collection I get an array of the custom objects. Is this normal behavior? It will be easy enough for me to take that array and insert it into a custom collection object but if I could I would like to skip this step.

Working on a project that tests up to 16 PC boards. The test routines are on a a backgroundworker thread. I want each PC board to perform the test routine on its own thread, so I would need up to 16 backgroundworkers.How do I go by doing this? Do I put 16 Backgroundworkers on the form? I tried to do it programmatically but I can't declare an array of backgroundworkers because withevents variables can't be typed as arrays. I guess I just need a kick in the right direction.

I have a group of boxes witch will all hold data input by the user. I am using an arraylist to store these, or atleast I am hoping to. So, the problem I have is getting the data to actually save to the arraylist. It keeps giving the error saying that type string cannot be converted to array list.

I've not really got a lot of experience making any games, but currently I've only made small basic games which involve, moving picture boxes with Case (KeyDown) events and timers etc, I've noticed a few problems such as, flickering and jittery movements as it += on to Top or left. Especially when I try it on other computers it varies and is sometimes really bad. I've heard from my lecturer that you can use other things in VB.NET such as GDI+ or GDK or whatever, I'm not really sure, but would someone be able to explain to me what other ones there are for VB.NET or the best method for me to do to move on to more effective ways of creating a graphical interface.

The following image or RTF file illustrates how I'm trying to transform an input Byte array into an output array of Booleans. This is basically what I have listed below. figure out how to get from one array to the next while shifting values of bytes within 8 byte groupings to shift low order to high order or vica versa. What I mean by that is best seen by looking at the illustration of actual input an required output. The reason for this is that the hardware devices have registers and the display which can be seen in the links above needs to convey the disabled sensor cable cell locations.
