I have created a project that shows a splash screen first and then shows the main form once the main form has been fully loaded. I only want to show my splash screen once the main form has completely loaded in the background. My main form by itself takes like 3 seconds to load, so I would like to display the splash screen for about 3 seconds and then show the main form because the main form will then be fully loaded, but instead it shows the splash screen for 3 seconds and then the main form still has to load anyway.How can I load the main form in the background and then show it when it is fully loaded?

I have a couple of user controls, which I show in my main form.
So let's say here's what i want:
Sub Show_Control1()
UserControl1.Show
'CODE TO HIDE EVERY OTHER DISPLAYED USER CONTROL ON THE MAIN FORM
End sub
Right now I have to hide them one by one with hide, because I don't know what's the current displayed form.

I have an app that connects to a remote database.The connection to the database is triggered by the form load event of the main start up form which prompts the user for user name and a password.Here is my problem:Sometimes it takes a number of seconds for the database connection to be established after the user has double clicked the desktop icon. this means that during this period it appears that no action is taking place until the startup form becomes visible.Some impatient users assume that nothing is happening and double click the icon again.What I want to do is to have a graphic image or something pop up on the screen immediately when the program starts that displays something like 'Connecting To Database, please be patient"

Q1: How can i make it so that my window that i want to show as a drop down does not appear to take the focus off the main form that is calling it?
Q2: The form that is dropping down has the FormBorderStyle Property set to None - thus the window does not have a drop down shadow - how can I make the popup window have a shadow?

i have a MDI application with parent and childforms.
i have a global timer in a module that makes a com search and writes the result to a parentform status strip label.
the problem is that the label do not change.
i have tried the following:
1) on timer.elapsed
parentForm.statusstriplabel.text =...
2) to create a delegate and invoke a parent form function
3) to create and raise an event
although all 3 seened to run the label didn't changed.
the timer was created in a different module than the parentform class for many reasons.
one of them is because i want to access the timer.start , timer.stop from all the childforms
when i tried a local timer to paretform worked perfect but i couidnt start and stop it from the childs

I use SetParent to make an external application a "child" of my Main .Net application. This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

I am developing a commercial application that needs to do some environment checking upon start up. I need to check things like the following. 1. Is there a registry entry on this machine that has various keys for paths to SQL Server 2. If it does not I need to create them. 3. Prompt user for the path to the SQL Server 4.Check the SQL Server to see if the database I need exists. 5. Create the DB if not. 6. Populate the DB with the tables I need 7. Create stored procs in the DB 8. Write the registry. I could do all this in the form load of the main form. However is there a better way? Like doing all these checks as part of a splash screen for example.

I have created an application that will run several other Engineering applications from within it.
I have my main form which will have a button on it for each application that has to be run. All the other projects are complete and have their respective '.EXE' files, which I have added to the main project.
I have coded one of the buttons to start an application, this is as follows;
Private Sub btnCoordsCalc_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCoordsCalc.Click
Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory & "Hole_Coordinates_Calculator.exe")
End Sub
This method works OK and does start the application. So my question is; Is this the correct way to do it, or should I import the whole project into my main project?

Ok this is how it is, I have my main app form, and from there I open another seperate form for scripting, but they are both open at the same time, when I run a script from the scripting form, it interfers with the main window form code that's running, I'm guessing they are both running in the same thread or whatever, how do I fix it? I've tried using thread commands but obviously it's not working,

Private Sub main_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
End Sub

I have a vb application(1) which is made to launch another software(2) with specified parameters, but i wanna keep my application opened as long as the 2nd one is opened too, and I also want to close the second one automatically if mine has been force closed by the user in windows taskmanager, on the desktop, or in any way.
So I need something which detects if windows is closing the program and kill the second application auto.
I would like to avoid the task manager block, because that isn't necessary for this i guess.

I am using Compact Framework 3.5 on a Symbol MC50.In my Sub Main it first checks to see if a database exists. If it does, it shows a login screen using the following code:
Dim login As frmLogin = New frmLogin()
If login.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then
Application.Run(New frmMain())
End If
This all works correctly and, when I close frmMain, it exits the application as expected.However, if the database check in Sub Main fails, I call the ShowDialog() method of another form that is used to create and fill the database from a live server. Here is the code for calling this form:
If Not File.Exists(SETTINGS_LOCALDB) Then
databaseExists = False
MessageBox.Show("Local DB does not exist. The database must be created before using the application.")[code].....
All of this code is being hit and frmMain does indeed load. However, when I click the close button in the top right nothing happens, no event occurs. Its as though the Windows events are not occurring.

I have two applications. For performing certain functions, i run a second exe, via a process, and wait till it is complete (exited) to continue with my main application. I run through many repetitive functions on different files.Everything runs fine however, when i am doing a run and it is on the x loop number, the main application seems to halt the secondary process exe. I can only assume this is what is happening as, if i close/stop (not pause) my main application in VB, the second exe continues from where it was halted until it completes.
