A lot of command line utilities use parameters, such as[code]...
How do I set up a .NET console application to take in command line arguments and, secondarily, how can you emulate handling "option" parameters like /i and /tlb: in the respective examples above?
I want my console application to be able to do one function I have when you click one option on the windows context menu, and another function when you click another option.

View 2 RepliesI am wanting to incorporate a Script Control into a vb.net application as opposed to using excel for logic calculations in the background. This is for users to store logic and have it repopulate a custom interface. I would rather store everything in sql server and evaluate it through a Script Control. Also, is there a Script Editor in the .net framework that would allow for entering the code? Maybe intellisensing as well?
I used the MS Script Control, however i don't think it supports the .net functions and is reletively old.
I want the program exe file should be used as a dos command with options. ex: dir /p

I cant seem to find a solution on how to pass parameters to another exe like adding some parameters after path in shortcut, and then launching that shortcut, only I want to do it directly without making shortcuts. So ,how would I pass parameters needed to start another exe (console in my case)?

I have a console application I'm using to run scheduled jobs through windows scheduler. All the communication to/from the application is in email, event logging, database logs. Is there any way I can suppress the console window from coming up?

This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.

I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
When I have Option Strict ON in my project, the IDE tells me that "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'System.Data.ParameterDirection' to 'String'." How can this be, since I'm using their built-in enumeration for the SqlParameter direction.

View 2 Repliesdetect whether the current application is a console or a winforms application.The reason that I want to do this is that I am developing a library with a global error handler in it and I need to know what type of application it is in order to be able to subscribe to the appropriate exception event.Obviously I could get the user to pass in a parameter specifying what type of application it is, but I would rather deal with that automatically so its all encapsulated from the user of the class.
View 1 RepliesWe currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.
I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.

this runs fine. but what i need is that the customerid on the application 1 that is calling application 2, should be transfered while opening app 2.e.g -Customer 10001 screen is open on app 1. When i click open app 2, the above code runs and opens app 2. how do i make app 2 open to customer 10001 screen. Is there any way to pass parameters while opening app 2 in System.Diagnostics.Process.Start ?
I have a problem. I have OCX that works in Form based application. But when I try to use it in Console based application it gives:

in vb 2008 express this option is available under application properties. does anyone know what it does? there is also a windows authentication option. what is the difference between these two?

I am maintaining some VB.net code and I am more of a C# programmer. I have taken over maintaining several projects from people who have since left the project. The manager tells me that some of the VB.net programs are console applications. Yet in looking through the source code I am not able to distinguish wether the code is for a console application or for some other VB.net program like a VB.net windows application. Can someone tell me if there is a way to determine if a VB.net program is a console application.
