Input And Output Command Line Arguements?

I have 2 VB programs that I would like to communicate with each other, but I want them to be separate EXEs. Anyway, the easiest way I figured would be for me to call the one program from the other and then return a result. How do I get this result into another program?
Here is how I want it to work:
1. Start System Information Program (easy)
2. Call a video test program, and send a couple arguments (see below)
3. Receive arguments from the video test (I do not know how to do this, I do not know how to send from the video test or receive from the system information)

i want to know how to get the command line arguements inside the vb program aka parameters that you specify while running a vb program through a shortcut by specifying a parameter ??for ex: "c:myfile.exe -parameter1 -parameter2 -etc".

Every time I try and redirect input and output of command prompt I have a problem. The debugger itself crashes! Something must really be wrong. What is a good way to launch CMD and send commands to it, receive output.

I have a program that runs a command line and retrieves the output, but the output I receive is unorganized and run-on. Since 3 processes are being run, I'd like each process results to be listed on a different line.

I have beginner skills using VB (am using the Express edition to learn). I would like to know how to set up a conditional statement in a Windows Form (WF) app that would check if a specific command line has been passed by another separate app that launchesthe Windows Form app using command lines, and if not passed, then the Windows Form app would shut down (exit, close).So far, I can use:

First let me say that I am not sure whether or not this should go in this section or the API section, and if it needs to be moved I apologize. My issue is fairly straight forward, but for some reason I cannot get it to work.

I am using the following code to run defrag and to analyze if the C: drive requires defragmentation:
Dim analyze As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32defrag.exe", "C: /a /h /u /v")
This process runs through analyzing, runs it in normal mode & prints the progress to the command window.
My problem is that as soon as the process is complete the command window closes. I need it to stay open so that I can read the results.

I am trying to send a command to the external command line (cmd.exe) from the Windows form application that I'm writing in VB.NET (using VS2008).
I can only access the external program thru the command line (its not my program) and I must do so from a form app.
I am trying to use the following code. I am able to call a cmd.exe window, but I can't pass the command line my command.

I am using a CheckedListBox that is populated with Filenames (full path, i.e. C:TestTest.jpg)When I have the files that I want in the CheckedListBox I wish to click a Start Button which will process the list one at a time using an exe program that runs on the Command Line. There are arguments that need to pass to the command line as well as the file location in order for the program to process.I currently have it working but the issue is the loop finishes quickly and it is left up to the CMD.exe to finish the process. What I would like is for the LOOP to wait until each file completes processing before passing the command for the next file in the CheckedListBox.There some reasons I wish for it to work this way.
1) I would like to have a button that can Pause/Restart the Loop.
2) I would like to have a button that can Stop the Loop so the whole process can end.
3) I would like to have the Loop remove each file one by one from the CheckedListBox after it has been processed.
4) I would like to display a Message once all the files have been processed.
5) And if it were possible I would like to report the status either by text or a progress bar showing where it is at in the process.
6) And the ability to add some error handling if possible.
Since the Loop finishes so quickly as it just passes the command to the command line using the & as a seperator it is the command line that is handling the rest of the process. Because of this there is not control over it in the GUI.The code I am using allows the Command Line text to display in the Form so it won't open up a seperate window to run CMD.exe. This is the desired affect as I would like everything to appear to run from within the Form itself.

I have a VB.net program in which I call the Shell function. I would like to get the text output that is produced from this code in a file. However, this is not the return value of the executed code so I don't really know how to.
This program is a service but has access to the disk no problem as I already log other information. The whole service have multiple thread so I must also make sure that when the file is written it's not already accessed.

I am building a quiz application which has 5 categories. I am saving details like name, category and score to DB. Table where all data is saved looks like :

John Windows 10
Tom Mac 5
On the start page i want to disable/enable categories if user has/has not took quiz yet (ie. if John has already completed Windows quiz but hasn't Mac then enable Mac Quiz, disable Windows and show Windows score).Whats the most elegant way of retrieving these values from database and then passing them to variable or boolean? What if search returns NULL (if quiz was not taken by John) and manipulating output from SQL Database? I am using vb.net 2.0 and SQL server 2005 and its an asp.net application.

I am struggling to pass a parameter to a VB.NET application via a Windows scheduled task. It works perfectly in Visual Studio (passing a command line arguement via project properties).If I am calling a VB6 application, then I will supply the following parameters and it works:
Run: c:progra~1TestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: c:progra~1Test However, if I supply the same parameters in VB.NET, the program throws an exception when it tries to create an instance of a class in the Form.Load: System.NullReferenceException cannot create instance of object.
I have also tried the following:Run: c:program filesTestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: "c:program filesTest" This time the status of the scheduled task changes to "cannot start".What is the correct way to specify command line parameters in a scheduled task for a VB.NET program?UPDATE I found the solution on this web page:[URL}.. I created a simple calculator. I just graduated with my Bachelors in Software engineerin in March of 2009. I am tryig to get a better understanding of VB.Net. I created a simple practice calculator and would like to know what code needs to be added in the code to clear the output when the user changes the input without adding a clear button as I know how to clear the input and output using a clear button, y working code is pasted below.

In my programming class, we have been set a task in which a user inputs 8 numbers, and those 8 numbers will be split into groups of 4 (therefore having 4 lots of two digit numbers). These 2 digit numbers will then translate to a specific time, day, place and city.
For example, this table below is what we have been given for city. (there are separate tables for time, day, place with different 2 digit numbers)

Bearing in mind I am a newbie, and my knowledge of VB is minimal. How would I go about doing this. It's suggested we use MOD and integer division, but I don't see how it can work.

I'd like to have a macro in Visual Studio 2005 that calls a DOS command and redirects the output (stdout and stderr) to a file. Just calling the command and ">" redirecting it will not capture stderr, so there are two parts to this:
calling a DOS command capturing both stderr and stdout to a file during that call
I'd then like to open this file in Visual Studio after the command completes.

I am trying to get the output of a CMD command attached to a RichTextBox control. For this sample, I am using the PING command. It works but unfortunately not the way I want it to. Instead of 'appearing' in my RichTextBox line by line, it waits until the entire process is completed and then it attachs it to my RTB.

This isn't generating any output.. not sure how to go about getting it working. ha, I'm learning though...slowly, but surely. I like the hands on approach of implementing things into my project, and working with them. I learn better that way, plus the project'll get completed eventually.

This question has been most likely been asked a number of times, but really hitting a brick wall regarding this.
The issue is that at the moment, I have to create a database using text files on VB.
So far I have managed to get the code working to add new customer and browse added records, but stuck on how to output/input back and fore to a text file, to store information, and after this input/output the text file to a DB ( Not worried about this at the moment)

We learned How to assemble an input/output control board that would connect to your serial port. We were able to use out statements (back in the old gwbasic) to send output signals to the parallel port to turn on/off different outputs. The board had connections where you could connect lights, relays, etc, and had connections where you could attach switches and sensors.
I have been looking for something simple that I can manipulate in my programs. I already have an ActiveHome X10 interface which includes an activex for receiving and sending x10 signals (home automation, turning lights on/off, etc.). I want something that I can straight out connect relays to, and sensors as well. I don't want something that connects to the serial port since that is already being used up, the parallel port would work fine, or even better usb.
