Jun 4, 2011I am making a TabStrip control to hold a number of tabs just like TabControl, but only with the tabs, no page. The control has a "Tabs Collection", which stores a list of "Tab" class. "Tab" is not inherited from Control, but each tab has its events. So when the user add a "Tab" in the "Tabs Collection", each "Tab" instance should have a (Name) identifier, which user can access it in the code, and with WithEvents keyword so users can add event handlers to each "Tab". The expected out come should similar to this:

Jul 24, 2011I am sorry to keep bothering you about this damn DataGridView control ... As you might have noticed I am having a hard time with the DataGridView control ... My latest problem has to do with updating the data base file (Access) through a DataGridView control .
Up to now I have managed to successfully edit an entry in the DataGridView control and moreover to successfully update the data base file itself .
The above form and its code work fine . The problem starts when I am trying to run the code of the Update button from another form .
You see , I have another form , through which I change the contents of some of the cells in the DataGridView control (back in Form1) . What I want next is to simply update the data base file itself , just like I was doing with the button in the first form , after I manually changed the cell in the DataGridView control .Thus , on the second form I have a button with this code :
Form1.Button1_Click(Nothing, Nothing) (of course the Click event is declared public)I have also tried :
Form1.Button1.PerformClick()
but still nothing ...Although Form2 successfully changes the cells back in Form1 , the data base file itself does not get updated ...If I manually press the Update button in Form1 I once again successfully update the data base file , but I want to do the whole thing by calling the Update button from Form2 .

I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize it?is there any way to make it Movable while it loads?
Windows Form App Ignore Event Handler On Page Load
Oct 24, 2009I have a windows application that has a tab control with 5 different tabs. Each of these tabs has a datagrid view that is populated with data on form load with data from SQL Server. I have an event handler for the datagrids for CellValueChanged that appends an asterisk, "*" to the tab, when a change is made, this is meant to mimic the same behavior in VS or SSMS. The issue that I have just realized is that on page load as the datagrids are populated this event handler is raised thousand of times. I have included an If Then statement to exit the sub if it occurs during page load, but am concerned about the performance implications, if any. Is there a better way to handle such functionality? Possibly a way to ignore the event handler on form load? If not is there a negative impact leaving this functionality in?

VS 2008 TreeView Null Reference Exception In Base.load()?
Dec 28, 2009I've placed a treeview on my form and when debugging everything works as planned. However, when I publish the application and run it on another machine, I get a null reference exception. This form is an MDIchild and another form in the same child collection loads its TreeView data with no problem.Here's my code, MajorCategories(), MiddleCategories(), MinorCategories() are all arrays of Structures filled in an outside subroutine.

Winforms - Load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0 On A Windows Form In Visual Studio 2010?
Mar 4, 2012I've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?

Form Load - Insert Or Update Data
Nov 10, 2009I have a project in which i have a form in which there is add button to add pages. In form load the last entered page populates all the fields. Now thing is if user edits the values in controls it has to update the db with those fields and if the page doesn't exist in db it has to insert.

I initialized a global variable x and set its value to 0 in page load and in add button click to 1. Depending on x value it either inserts or updates the db in form closing and add button click. Now whats happening is If the user clicks on add button the page increments but if user doen;t enter any values and tries to close the empty form, value of x =1 and it tries to insert but as there are blank fields cmd.executenonquery throws an error.
"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."
What should I do so that it doesn't give an error. I am using access db.I even checked in db Except for primary key(pageno) all other fields have "allow zero length" as YES & "required" to NO.

Apr 7, 2011Is there a way to load the data for my form during the splash screen and simply show the form when the user clicks on the button? I'm using a thread which fills my DataAdapter using Form.DataAdapter.Fill(Form.Dataset.Table), but when I open the form the data isn't shown (I removed the line from my form_load event to prevent a double load). Is there anyway to tell the form that the DataAdapter has been filled already and to look at the information there instead of loading the data everytime the form loads?
My problem is that the form takes a while to load due to the amount of data it is looking for. If I could already have the data ready and then display the form when the user clicks a button it'd be perfect. I apologize if I'm missing something, this is my first time diving into VB.Net with VS2010 after using Access VBA for awhile.

Jun 30, 2008On one form (form1) i have a simple textbox. On the other form (form2) i have 1 combobox and 1 textbox. The combobox and textbox are binded together to a datatable.
What i wan't is that when form2 loads firstly it shows the data from the textbox on form1. And when i select another value wit the combobox it shows the new data from the textbox on form1 to form2.
My problem is when form2 loads firstly no data is shown in my textbox. Why not???

May 1, 2012I have searched the web and this site for an answer but have not been able to solve this problem.I am not able to place a flashing cursor in a specified cell of a data bound DataGridView on Form_Load.My test project consists of a single Visual Basic 2008 form with a database created in Microsoft SQL Express 2005 using the Add New Data Source in the Data Sources window.The database has one table consisting of 2 columns.Column 1 being the primary key with Identity Specification set to On.The second column is a VarChar50.The DataGridView was placed on the form by dragging it from the Data Sources window thereby creating the Binding Navigator and the Private_Sub Form_Load code.I have added the code that should put the cursor where I want it.[code]

The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.
Creating A Base Class For Windows Services?
Jan 16, 2012In our application, we have a number of Windows Services (more than 30) that must run behind the scenes to process data at given times throughout the day. I was attempting to create a BaseService class that I could inherit from that would log to our database when the service started or stopped as well as some other common functionality. However, I ran into a show stopper in trying to create BaseService as MustInherit as we have a number of MustOverride properties. The issue lies in:
<MTAThread()> Shared Sub Main()
Our code is all in VB (as you can probably tell). Given that it is a Shared method, I cannot have it be overriden (i.e. make it MustOverride). Without this method, the code will not compile, however it will not really work in the base class. The code in this method is:

The BaseService (the name of my base class) cannot be created because it is specified as MustInherit. And therein lies my problem. I cannot create this in the Base Class and cannot override it in the inheriting classes.
