after being disappointed with VB2010, and with the lack of vb support for windows 7 phone, I thought I'd be happy now that vb is going to be supported after all.So, I downloaded the trial version of vs 2010, to run these new tools.Several hours later it finishes installing, and I start a new project only to run into the error: Error: this template attempted to load component assembly "Microsoft.VisualStudio .SmartDevice.ProjectSystem.Base".
When I start VS2008Prof I get a Package Load Failure "Package 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Xaml' has failed to load properly". Repairing VS and resetting ('devenv /resetsettings') it did not help.
I am trying to use my .NET DLL library that is compiled in VIsual Studio 2008 in Linux. Now for that they have this Mono CLI implementation but unfotunately they have not fully implemented Microsoft.VisualBasic library as of yet. So when i try to call certain methods from my DLL i get this error: "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualBasic, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.".
But not every function in my DLL crashes with this error. I found out that it is because this error only occurs when i use VisualBasic functionality. But the problem is that many things that come from this library are default things that you can do when using VB .NET.
Is there any way i can completely remove VIsualBasic functionality from my code in my DLL library?
I read in another post that setting Option Strict On is a good place to start but i still get the error even after doing that. Additionaly, i have unchecked VisualBasic namespace and removed it from references.
I use:Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop as well as a Reference from the "COM" tab called "Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library"
I built my program then copied the .exe from the inDebug folder to a location on my company's server. I then double clicked the .exe and it ran as I expected it would.My boss then tried (from another computer) and he gets this error:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
On Windows Phone 7 to get the current control one would use
FocusManager.GetFocusedElement()
Wherea on Winform it is just ActiveControl.Why use 2 semantics which is a nuisance for portability ? Is there any difference of behavior you can see between the two ? If yes that makes sense, otherwise that doesn't.
I have a Visual Studio 2008 solution with project A referencing project B as a project reference. Project B references System.Data.Linq, but project A does not. Everything compiles and runs fine. I like this arrangement because avoiding a reference to System.Data.Linq in project A ensures that it uses project B methods instead of directly accessign System.Data.Linq methods, which I want to avoid.

I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system.While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen.The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.
I have two projects in a solution. One is a class library with my FTP, GPG and some other classes that get compiled into a dll call CBI.Utilities. The other is my main app which in a few places call the ftp class. I added the reference to the main solution by browing to the project from references under the main solution and now I get this error when I try to instantiate the ftp class.
"Could not load file or assembly 'CBI.Utilities, Version=1.0.2053.21021, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=78bbe40a91a1660e' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)" Should I be making a reference to the DLL or to the projects. Either way I end up with a reference cbi.utilities.
I would like to add a .dll into my existing vb.net application. When i was inserting it through Project -> Add References, it showed an error msg: "This is not a valid assembly or COM component." What is my problem?

I am using source safe to maintaine my code.Recently I copied my code to another machine.But everytime i build my project i am getting below error:Problem generating manifest. Could not load file or assembly

it works on 32bit and framework 4 - error: could not load file or assembly Interop.XXXX.dll Steps to reproduce:Create a new VB.Net winform project on a 64 bit system with framework 4 drop windows media player control on form. builds and runs fine. project references has two interops to temporary directory under obj folder copy if necessary the two interops to the build output path and delete the old project references and add new ones pointing to the interops in the output path build and run, everything is fine.ste the target frameowrk to 3.5 and repeat the whole process. the build fails.This is just a simple example of what I am seeing on a much mor complex project. It happens with all interops, not just WMP.
I made an app that connects to a mysql database to update a table. It works fine from my test machine, but if i deploy the app to another computer I get error: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.3.6.0 I'm going through google to find a solution, but nothing has stood out yet, just wondered if anyone has encountered this before and knows of a quick fix.
I cannot figure out how to get past this error. I have 1) Given the user "everyone" access to the entire directory that this dll is contained in 2) Deleted the dll and rebuilt the project 3) Deleted the Temporary ASP.NET files in the Windows Directory 4) Restarted IIS 5) Tried to change to a different user in IIS security including trying ASPNET. we are not using windows authentication. 6) Even copied that dll from other machines.

I created a SQL application that synchronises with a SQLCE database when loaded. Works fine on my Dev machine but produces the following error on user machines:

1) Reinstalled SQL Compact Editon 3.5 on the client machines 2) Reinstalled .NET Framework 3.5 3) Installed Microsoft Sync Framework 1.0 (which puts the 'missing' DLL onto the machines).

I am working on an application which compiles fine on machine that is Win 7 and 64 bit CPU.
