I have two form in my application form1 and form2. Here, i want to show the form2 from form1 by using a button. And i want to reverse back to my form1 from form2 using same technique. But i want to close form1 (Not visible=false or hide) after loading form2 and same thing in reverse back also.
Imports System.Data Imports System.Data.OleDb Public Class Form1 Dim con As OleDbConnection Dim cmd As OleDbCommand
[CODE]...............
The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation, close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form, then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.
I have two forms , first one is search and second is showing the data searched by first form search criteria. When the search query runs it takes lot of sql server resources, so I have passed that query to second form, it searches in database and shows the results. But if the results are not found I wish to close the second form in Form load event. As Second forms form load event searches for the record. I tried to use SecondForm.close in SecondForm.load event but failed to do so.
Basically during the form load event i carry out some checks to make sure i have database connection and a valid login, if these items fail i catch the exception and display a messagebox and change a boolean variable to false. It then goes back to form load where i have an if statement which is if boolean variable = false then me.close
Trouble is this runs through to the conclusion of the form_load sub and then attempts to load and throws an instance of an object type exception.I kinda understand the logic that i am trying to close the form before it has loaded, so put the close command in the form_activated routine, however this still eventually sends me back to the form load sub and tries to load the form, and then throws the same exception.
I have an about form which I hope it can close by itself if I move the mouse to somewhere else. I try form_lostfocusevent but unfortunately this can NOT be done
here i am dealing with only two form,so if i add form1.close() in the form2 button click event then it might wok. but what if i deal with many forms and i need to show and hide them several times?
Is there an way to supress the validating event of textbox when the forms close button(X) is pressed. In the textbox validating event , if the condition fails then i am displaying an messagebox. Now suppose if the textbox has the focus and user directly presses the forms X button , then the messagebox is displayed
aside from the difference mentioned below, what are other difference the two events might have and how will affect the application as a whole? What is more preferred to use and why?
Form Load: *Do stuff* Form shows up on monitor Form Shown: Form shows up on monitor *Do stuff*
I have a main form that has a button with which a smaller form is shown. Think of the smaller form as the Find/Replace dialog in many applications, such as Notepad. It's important that the form is (what I believe is called) modal. What I mean is that it always stays on top of the main form. I ensure that by calling the Show method with "Me" as the owner argument. Whenever the small form loses focus it will not disappear into the background but stay visible (albeit out of focus). If you don't understand open up Notepad and have a look at the behavior of the Find/Replace dialog.
Here's my problem: instead of actually closing the form when the X is pressed, I want it to simply Hide itself, so its position and the state of any controls (checkboxes etc) is preserved automatically. To achieve this I simply cancel the FormClosing event and Hide it:
vb.net Private Sub Form2_FormClosing(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing
[code]....
To show the form, I use the following (note the (Me) to make the main form the owner of the form; this ensures that it remains visible even when it is out of focus):
vb.net Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Form2.Show(Me) End Sub
Now. When I run my project, and open the Form2 (small form), then hide it again (by 'closing' it), I can no longer close the main form (Form1)! It seems the main form cannot close when the small form still exists (albeit invisible)...?? When I don't use the Me argument in the Show method, I don't get the behavior I want. I know I can set the TopMost property to True but that will also cause it to become visible on top of all the other forms, even windows not part of my application.
I was doing this [URL].. and i got the map to come up when i saved the notepad doc as a .HTML.I want it to come up on VB Form though, is it possible and how hard it would it be?
I have set my forms font as "Segoe UI, 14.25pt" and have just placed an single label on the form.
Upon placing the label by default it gets the forms font i.e Segoe UI, 14.25pt
i have placed the following code on the labels textchange event
Private Sub Label1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Label1.TextChanged Dim f As New Font(Me.Label1.Font, FontStyle.Italic) Label1.Font = f MessageBox.Show(Label1.Font.Name) End Sub
Now when the form is loaded , i get a message box showing the labels font name as "Microsoft Sans Serif"
The labels font size also changes to 8 but it is italic.
Why is this happening? And why does the textchange event occur on the form load?
When the form loads I want to fill the combobox with the data present in the database. So I did the below
Private Sub BindCombo() con = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0;Data Source=C:UsersGautamDocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsF1pracF1pracBank_Account.mdb") con.Open() cmd = New OleDbCommand("Select * from BankAccount", con) [Code] .....
Doing this code the data is added up in the combobox dropdown list. But when I am selecting a data from the combobox dropdown list, the all the corresponding data of the other combobox also get filled automatically. I don't want to let the other combobox filled with their data automatically....
regarding the DataGridView Checkbox.. I have two Forms, The 1st one has a datagridview..but in order to load the data to form1 datagridview, i need to open another form w/c also has a datagridview w/checkboxes on it.. I need to select a data in the form2 datagridview w/the use of checkbox..when i select an item..then press the ok button, the checked checkbox with the info corresponds to the data i selected will appear in the form1 datagridview. I have done this and works fine, but when i select two data or when i checked two items on the form2 datagridview.. only one info is added on the form1 datagridview.. here is my
I followed the last post about dgvs and have been trying to get my dgvs to have alternate colored lines on form load. In both apps I am working on I am using dgvs to display certain things. I do not like the look of a blank dgv on a form. When I tried to add blank colored lines to my dgv, it did work, but when I loaded the dgv with a dataset, it pushed my columns to the right and I had to add scroll bars to see my data.
I added a few items in the combobox dropdown list at the form load event. [code] At the runtime I dont want to allow the user to write something in the combobox as a text. The user can only select an item from the dropdown list of the combobox.
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?
sometimes, when I use Form.close() when debugging my program, although the form is closed, the application is still running. I noticed this behaviour when using the msgbox function.
I try to transfer a vb6 application to vb2010. In the vb6 I start with a login panel that the user enter uid and password autenticate with the DBServer if ok show application main menu and close the login form. the order of the me.close() after the mainform.show() does not change, The application ends.
I have a situation where me.close() doesn't close the form. I have a form with a button with the code seen below. What happens when the button is clicked is the new form shows, but the original form(calling form) is still there. When I go into debug mode, I can see the me.close() execute, but nothing happens (calling form stays open). When I close the second form both forms close. If I comment out the call for the second form to open the first form closes without problem.
Private Sub cmdNext_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdNext.Click Dim f As New frmOrder3
I'm looking for some advice on a very simple application which should consist of 2 parts:The application should display a splash screen for 5 seconds Before the splash screen displays, the program should execute code which sets some Environment Variables and then starts another EXE after which this application should terminate. As a complete novice to VB.Net I've been reading countless articles & examples on splash screens but they all seem geared towards a solution which will load a further form after the splash screen or contain snippets of code that I have no idea how or where to use. On my app however, I don't want any further form to be visible so can someone please advise the steps to follow that will achieve what I am looking for.
The following code Forum Account kindly converted that sets the environment variables and starts another EXE
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Form2.Show() Me.Close() End Sub
i have this code on my MDI parent and on button click i would like Parent to close and form2 to load/show.yet with current code when i click button it closes all the app and doesnt load from2
Should I open a connection to MySQL at the load of my application and close it when you exit or should I open and close the connection only when I need to run queries?
