VS 2005 - How To Delete Registry Keys Instead Using Regedit

Oct 21, 2011

I have problems about USB device drivers: I can see the driver correctly installed but application says device is not present.

I solved using Regedit:
in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetEnumUSB

I have to manually delete the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetEnumUSBVid_04d8&Pid_8001
with all subkeys.

I've seen there are several examples managing registry keys using vb, but I can't understand how detect if the key is present and how delete it.

Backup Registry - Keys / Values Displayed In ListView?

Nov 22, 2009

I have a program which will search the entire registry for a keyword and display all the matching keys/values in a listview. The user can then select the desired keys/values and delete them. Since this a program that deals with registry, I want to give the users a way to backup the registry before they do the delete operation. I would like to know what is the best approach for this.

3 questions here:
1- Should I backup the entire registry ?
2- Should I backup only the keys/values that the user has selected in the listview ?
3 - Can I have the sample code or appropriate URL's which describes this.

Add Keys/values To Dictionary At Declaration?

Sep 22, 2010

Very easy today, I think. In C#, its:

Dictionary<String, String> dict = new Dictionary<string, string>() { { "", "" } };

But in vb, the following doesn't work.

Public dict As Dictionary(Of String, String) = New Dictionary(Of String, String) (("",""))

I'm pretty sure there's a way to add them at declaration, but I'm not sure how. And yes, I want to add them at declaration, not any other time. :)

I've also tried:

Public dict As Dictionary(Of String, String) = New Dictionary(Of String, String) ({"",""})

And...

Public dict As Dictionary(Of String, String) = New Dictionary(Of String, String) {("","")}

And...

Public dict As Dictionary(Of String, String) = New Dictionary(Of String, String) {{"",""}}

Get The Keys From The Registry And Display Them In A Checked Listbox?

Jan 20, 2009

I am wondering if there is a way to get the keys from the registry and display them in a checked listbox. For example I want to get all the keys and there values from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun". This will allow me to see all the startup items. Is there a way that I can get all the values and display them in a checked listbox. I tried using the GetValue but it seems that you have to set the key that you want.

Iterate Through The Keys And Values Collections Of A Dictionary Object Using An Index?

Apr 25, 2009

I have a VB.NET project where I am able to iterate through the keys and values collections of a dictionary object using an index:

MyDictionary.Keys(idx)
MyDictionary.Values(idx)

When this code is taken from the test project and placed into the real project I get the following error:

'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary(Of Double, String).KeyCollection' cannot be indexed because it has no default property.[code]...

In the line in sub search that says "dtf.Keys(idx) = 0" place your cursor after the right parenthesis and backspace you should get a tooltip that says, "<Extension> ElementAtOrDefault(index as Integer) as Double - index: the zero based element of the index to retrieve.

The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.

Calling REGEDIT From VB?

Jul 22, 2009

I have a little utility that everybody in our office uses on XP. This utility runs under our standard, non-Admin user profiles...and, where necessary, provides our Admin credentials to do things like connect to a remote computer, assign and take away rights, modify the registry, etc...I had added code to start the Registry Editor and the MMC....and it works fine....in XP. In Vista, that is an entirely different story.I've run into "Invalid Directory" errors and "Elevation Required" errors.What I have is :

Dim mypass As New System.Security.SecureString
Dim myprocessinfo As New ProcessStartInfo
myprocessinfo.UseShellExecute = False ' MUST be set to FALSE to work

Background Program To Detect When Regedit Tries To Run?

Sep 3, 2011

I have Windows XP Pro, SP3 on a Dell Dimension 9150 with VB 3.0 and all other Visual Studios up to and including VS2010 Pro.I'm not exactly an expert VB programmer, but I have written several different programs.I would like to write a VB program to run in the background and detect when the program regedit.exe/regedt32.exe tries to run.Once the regedit program tries to run, I would like my background program to pop up a message with three options. Allow, Do Not Allow and Cancel.

The Allow button would allow regedit to run.The Don't Allow button will not allow regedit to run and continue to run in the background. The Cancel button would not allow regedit to run and would cancel the background program.Can this be done?I would explain why I want to do this, but it would take too much of this thread. However, if anybody really needs to know, I will accommodate their request.
