I know I've asked this before and for some reason I can never remember how to do it. I need to loop thru a directory structure and for every *.txt file, I need to open it and read it. This is a little application that basically searches for a given string. How do I do this?
i want to read a set of files from a particular directory( for example: D:Date has set of .xls files like D1.xls, D2.xls, D3.xls). if the the file is not there then it should throw error.i am not getting how to to do this VB.Net?
I wrote a cleanup program to go through some directories and delete files based on if the creation date is older than say 6 months. It works fine with some of the directories I have that contain around a few thousand small files. However, there is one directory (that contains small backup files from another program) that is loaded with over 300,000 files and it locks up on me as soon as I read in the first file in that directory.I am convinced it is the directory has too many files in it to open it. The server that the directory is on is slow. It takes a half hour to open the directory while on the server itself. I know it will take forever to delete the amount of files I want to delete, but I don't understand why it gets stuck and hangs there with no error message. Here is where I get stuck. Listbox1 is the directory I'm attempting to access
For Each selectFile In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(ListBox1.Items.Item(Count), FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly, "*.*") compFile = Path.GetFileName(selectFile)
I have created a project in VS2003.Net under VisualC++.-->Windows32 Application. I have to make an executable file that I will be able to run from different machine. The purpose of this file is to read some files that are in a particular directory. I will run the VSC++ .exe file from this folder. So I have to use some code to get the currentdirectory(directory where the current exe file is existing). After getting the directory, I have to find all the files in this directory that has an extension of .config.
It's been ages since I've done any coding (not that this is much excuse for my stupidity!). What I want to do is to be able to loop through a directory and list, for instance, all of the txt files in there.I can get the length of the files with the following:
For Each zFile In System.IO.Directory.GetFiles("c:fileloop", "*.txt", IO.SearchOption.TopDirectoryOnly) MsgBox(zFile.Length) Next
But I'm stuck on actually returning the file name.
i have an XML file that i am trying to loop though. My current code does this just fine BUT it only does it for the first 2 nodes. It repeats nodes over and over again.[code]How can i loop through the whole thing while still gathing only the 2 childnodes every loop?
and it works just fine. However, saying that, i need to find a way to loop through ALL the directory's on the "c" drive and not just the main folder. Does anyone have any code that can do that?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim strFileSize As String = "" Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo("C:")
[code]....
and it works just fine. However, saying that, i need to find a way to loop through ALL the directory's on the "c" drive and not just the main folder.
Here is my code for splitting "," from the text file. But the problem is I don't know how to include looping in the code to make the code read the whole text file. when I run this code, it's only read the first line of the text file.
Dim sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader("C:\drill.txt") Dim data As String() data = sr.ReadLine().Split(",")
I've got an intranet based reporting tool (VB.Net + ASP.Net Integrated Windows Authentication) that looks up users and managers from a SQL Server 2005 table to roll up the reporting to manager level. This table is currently manually maintained and I've been asked to make it more dynamic as it is going to be up-scaled for far more users. Therefore I'm looking to link in with the Active Directory to create an Org table in the back end which will replace the current manually entered one.I'm comfortable getting user data from the AD, but not so sure as to the best approach to set this up, I was thinking of the following table:
EmpID will be the NetworkID (sAMAccountName). Then this will need populating from the AD, I'm guessing through recursive calls to fill in the fields. I'm then not sure how to structure the code so that it will capture every employee under every manager starting at a given level. I'm currently using the below to capture the direct reports for a given manager:
Public Function GetDirectReports(ByVal ADFullName As String) As ArrayList Dim adItems As ArrayList = New ArrayList Dim rootEntry As New DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" & ADFullName)
I have a form with a listbox. I'm adding items to the listbox through a file that I saved. When I open the file, I want each line/string in the file to go in as a separate item in the listbox. I've gotten it to work so far but only with 1 string. I need to loop the part where the file is being read to be able to add all the strings that are within the file to the listbox. How do I do this? So far, this is the code I have:
VB .net Private Sub OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OpenToolStripMenuItem.Click OpenFileDialog1.Filter =
I'm trying to get files from a directory and all the sub directory's to show in a checked list box. This is my first time working with arrays?here is the code
Public Class add_to_play_list 'IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory & "\x"' Dim Home As String Dim Fi As New ArrayList
[code]....
I have a sansa fuze and i have to make my own playlist for it so i want to have the program read the songs that are on there and show it to you in the list box and you can check off the ones you want then it will read the mp3 files to make the playlist, it needs the path, name, and duration from the mp3 file. i can get the name and the path so far...
I am going to need to create a windows form for work that we can connect to a database table, select a directory and move files from the directory that are in the table and move to another folder. The directory will have sub directories that I need to search for the file name and move. I would like to have the table hold the file name (or path) and move all files that are in the database. There might be 20 files or 1000. Depends on the client we are processing for.
I am new to VB.NET and have been given a project to do and am almost done but there is a part where I am struggling with , cant seem to find a solution. There is a server (\\ntklppt1\download) where my client downloads files on a daily basis. So in a month we receive maximum of 31 files in this formatabs_prod_20110601, abs_prod_20110602, abs_prod_20110603 abs_prod_20110626, abs_prod_20110627, etc.So what my application must do is, if I am now in June, the application must read all files downloaded from the 1st to the 31st of May and take the biggest file and import it to the database.
I am developing a package in SSIS (Sql Server Integration Services) part of which uses something called a Script Task (a component in which you can program via VB). In any event, for this component I need some code that basically loops through files in a folder and changes all text right of the first decimal point (in the file name) to ".txt". I am currently doing this via VBA in Access but am moving the process to SQL Server.
I am trying to create a program which will read the files that exist in a directory, and then write in a text file the specific information (full file name, date created)i have found several code in the site but i cant make it work, the machine i am running the code is XP and i am using VB2008.The code i have found is the following:
I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:
For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database Next
[Code]....
Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?
i am trying to move a file (test.txt) from say from:[code]I understand from the MSDN forum, i can use this File.Copy(pathA, pathB) OR Directory. Move(pathA, pathB) where pathA = C:folder_ est.txt and pathB = C:folder_ est.txt
All I am trying to do is write a simple program that will let me choose a directory and get a listing of all files in that directory and its sub-directories and show it in a RichTextBox. I got as far as being able to select the directory but when I click "OK" I get "access to c:documents and settingsstevedesktopmp3 is denied".The code I am using is listed below.
I am attempting to play a set of audio files continuously using a tree view. I am having troubles looping through an array to play one song after another in the selected parent node. It seems to work if I only use one song in the array but it doesn't want to actually loop through and keep playing; it goes through the loop but once the first song is over it stops. I am unsure if looping through an array in the AfterSelect sub routine is the best way of doing this,
Here is the entire Sub routine for the AfterSelect on the tree view.trvMain is the name of the entire tree view.wmpMain is the Windows Media Player COM.trvJazzHancock is the parent node for the two audio files I'm attempting to loop.
I have 4 directories, each directory contain 1000 text files. what i want to do is read all text files in the 4 directories then save them to 4 array of sting. i.e each directory of text files in on array of string.
i have 2 problems the first problem is if i have a .txt file how can i extract specific data. the second problem can i create batch files on the fly because of the need for a variable again it may not make sense but shout tyrannically
how to copy, delete, show files, show current directory, change directory, make folder, rename folder. My problem is i have a method on deleting a file and copying a file, but i don't know how to pass the method so that when i click the delete button it would let me choose what file to delete. By the way im using buttons on each function.[code...]
All I am doing is reading each txt file I find in a directory and finding certain strings in the text then counting how many I find in each file and then once each file has its separate counts it send it to a sql database. I have most of it done, but I cant seem to get the count to separate each file so my problem now is that it counts the first file but when it counts the next file it adds to the first file and so on through all the files
