Feb 13, 2009I know I've asked this before and for some reason I can never remember how to do it. I need to loop thru a directory structure and for every *.txt file, I need to open it and read it. This is a little application that basically searches for a given string. How do I do this?

Feb 2, 2009It's been ages since I've done any coding (not that this is much excuse for my stupidity!). What I want to do is to be able to loop through a directory and list, for instance, all of the txt files in there.I can get the length of the files with the following:

But I'm stuck on actually returning the file name.

Jun 10, 2010I'm making a Cleaner for my PC that could delete all files with a specific name.So I have all the names in a .txt file, like:
A
B
C
D
Now I need somekind of function that would search in a directory ( The user gives the dir. in a textbox ), and its important that it would also search in all sub folders and see if there is a match to any of the names in the .txt file. And it shall not care about in what format the file is. It can be in .exe , .txt or any format.

Feb 29, 2012I've got an intranet based reporting tool (VB.Net + ASP.Net Integrated Windows Authentication) that looks up users and managers from a SQL Server 2005 table to roll up the reporting to manager level. This table is currently manually maintained and I've been asked to make it more dynamic as it is going to be up-scaled for far more users. Therefore I'm looking to link in with the Active Directory to create an Org table in the back end which will replace the current manually entered one.I'm comfortable getting user data from the AD, but not so sure as to the best approach to set this up, I was thinking of the following table:

EmpID will be the NetworkID (sAMAccountName).Then this will need populating from the AD, I'm guessing through recursive calls to fill in the fields. I'm then not sure how to structure the code so that it will capture every employee under every manager starting at a given level. I'm currently using the below to capture the direct reports for a given manager:

VS 2008 Extracting Icons From Files In Directory
Jul 24, 2009I was able to extract icons from the current running processes and then put them into a ListView.
I am trying to do the same with files in a specified directory:
vb.net

When I use this code, I get an error stating: "'MainModule' is not a member of 'System.IO.FileInfo'." If I remove the very first line of the sub that specifies the directory, that error obviously goes away.
So, is there another method of extracting the icon? Or must I declare the directory in another way?

It installs correctly and creates the data folder, however when it tries to write the file it gets an exception "unauthorized access".
